Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on August 25, 2020August 26, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 BILLY RAY got tongues wagging at trials. Has won both his trials at Belmont under a hold in two different preparations and in a field of 6, with a cutaway in play, he looks like making a winning debut. The horse who ran second to him at the most recent trial won well at Kalgoorlie on Sunday and you would think only bad luck beats him here. DON’T COMPARE and ELIMINTE have both trialled like horses who would be winning races in their early 3 year old days. ZADOK won well at his return and no reason why he can’t hold form. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – BILLY RAY WIN RACE 2 YELVERTON was a funny old run at Northam. Lead them up and was quickly collared in the home straight and it looked like he was about to ease back through the field and run midfield. Once Shaun O’Donnell got dinkum in the last 100m he came again and grabbed third. The second horse Chiclett looks to have a future so it should be a reasonable form line and drawn the cutaway he is worth consideration at a price. TRADE MASTER couldn’t have done any more but win last week. He is returning the same rating week in, week out and again it is good enough to win. ENCHANTING GIRL caught the eye on debut. FLASH DUCATI was a reasonable trial and looked like a miler in the making. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet – YELVERTON EACHWAY RACE 3 FUSION is a genuine staying filly who was thrown in the deep end straight out of maiden company when contesting a C3. She pulled up lame and can be forgiven for the effort and now comes back into a C1. Worth a throw at the stumps in a lottery race. AMERICAN SOUL has run second at his last three and probably hit the front in the last two before peaking on the run. Deserves to win one. AHYOKA FROST was backed at a price last start and the race was not run to suit. Perennial C1 but this is a limited race. ROYAL CHOISIR is a maiden but going well. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 8 – 9 Suggested Bet – FUSION EACHWAY RACE 4 STARTRADE put the writing on the wall first-up and then duly saluted second-up when a big drifter in the market, much to the joy of Jade McNaught’s loyal followers. This is a very evenly graded C1 and the step to 1200m should be in his favour. With any luck from the draw gets in midfield and should take beating. MINI WINNIE comes from a Graduation back into a C1 and was never a winning chance first-up. Only need to re-watch the maiden win to convince yourself that he’s a chance. SO SWAY comes from a very slowly run 1000m race but gets the huge benefit of Madi Derrick’s 3kg claim. APPROACH ran super at his Annie King debut. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – STARTRADE WIN RACE 5 NIGHT VOYAGE has last saw this grade 23 starts ago when saluting back on the 15th of August 2018. Has raced in exclusively higher grade since then and after the claim for Laqdar Ramoly gets in with a very winnable 59.5kg. He looks perfectly suited to cutaway racing and just needs to be within 4L of the leaders turning for home to be hard to hold out. NOBELIUM gains a start and of the main winning chances he is drawn the best of all of them. Going well and hard to fault on recent form. MORE ACES (like many in this field) hasn’t won for a long time but has to be competitive in this. FLOWER OF SCOTLAND is a 3 time winner in this grade and while she has 62kg and a horror draw she’s a strong independent woman who does what she wants. Numbers: 2 – 11 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – NIGHT VOYAGE WIN RACE 6 OHBEEH was arguably a good thing beaten in this grade only two starts ago. Last time out stepping into 60+ Graduation company and was far from disgraced. One of a number of quality rides for Laqdar Ramoly and if he steps cleanly can even lead them up early before taking cover on the back of Butterlea Lad. SEA WAR is better than what he showed first-up. Looked to be run off his legs and is better suited here. GRANRANDELL comes from the same race and finished as well as he could. PHONEME is getting close to a WA win. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – OHBEEH WIN RACE 7 SANS LE SOU won like a horse who would be going through the grades first-up. Once she saw daylight she lengthened very impressively and Clint Johnson-Porter was able to ease her down late and won by almost 2L. She is versatile and may even end up rolling forward to sit outside likely leader in Simonelly. Durrant & Johnston-Porter hot at the moment and we’ll hold out seat on the bandwagon. SIMONELLY won well last start and has been huge her last few. LITTLE FLIRT looks like getting a soft trip and then clear air when the cutaway presents. ADVOCATOR may be 3 deep the trip but has no weight. Numbers: 4 – 8 – 9 – 5 Suggested Bet – SANS LE SOU WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,3,7,8 1,2,4,5,11 1,7 4,8 Market Market
