Scott Embry’s Wednesday Ascot Preview Posted on December 20, 2022March 10, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 MOJO’S LUCK comes through an ugly 60+ Graduation behind Vitalize. There were a few hard luck stories in the race but none more so than Rare Encounter and Mojo’s Luck. Has been building at each and every run and in a small field with the rail out midweek he gets his chance to win another race. YARRALEA ran through the line well behind Rock My Way when only getting out late. She can track up along the fence/cutaway. CALL ME VIOLET was plunged unsuccessfully on debut but the punters were rewarded at start number two when she scored a soft victory. Gives every indication she’ll only get better over further and further. LET’S ERUPT is on speed and racing well. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – MOJO’S LUCK WIN RACE 2 TORONADO MAGIC looks to be the kind of filly who will improve with each and every start. Is still very new, green and raw but the extra 200m looks to be in her favour and while she was beaten fair and square on debut think she was run off her legs and never able to fully balance and show her best. Loved her trials and at an eachway price willing to follow up. LIEUTENANT DUNBAR chased hard from the breeze behind Art of Sabrage on debut in the same race. If he can find his way to the top, he’ll be hard to run down. Happy to follow the Art of Sabrage form with the pair of them. GOLD KEEPER is racing consistently and maps well. COSTAZITA trialled nicely. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – TORONADO MAGIC EACHWAY RACE 3 BOOTS LIKE BRUCE has only had the one public appearance and looked sharp. He’s a 5 year old on debut but Annie King does a wonderful job with her small team and the fact she’s taken him straight to the races suggests he’s ready to go. He won the trial by 2.7L, with a further 2.4L back to the third horse in a slick time at Lark Hill. Looks naturally talented. THE BIG ONE continues to frustratingly find one better. He’s double accepted for Wednesday at Ascot and Thursday at Belmont. PLANET CASH showed ability leading into his debut run where he finished off well behind Cosmopolitan Girl who had a breakout preparation thereafter. KING HALLOWELL only saw daylight late in his trial and ran right through the line. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – BOOTS LIKE BRUCE WIN RACE 4 WEIGHTMAN finished third in a C1 behind Rare Encounter at his WA Debut, second to Truly Inspired in a C1 at his second start in the State and then has contested back to back 54+ races when having minor excuses in both. Drops back into a C1 and goes round double figures. These staying races can throw up results and he looks capable of doing exactly that. TRAVEL WARNING broke through last start at his first staying attempt. He beat Arnray who came out and broke his maiden tag (finally) at his next outing to frank the form. SHE’S OUR WITNESS is attacking the line like there’s a staying win in her sooner rather than later. She’ll be doing her best late. RISKY LYRICS is a query at the trip but gets a soft run under W.Pike. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – WEIGHTMAN EACHWAY RACE 5 ROCK MY WAY won on debut beating home subsequent winners Feels Playful and Call Me Violet before heading straight into a 3 year old Plate on a Saturday and beating handy types like Galaxy Affair, Aiyza, Yarralea & Co. Takes on the older horses stepping out to 1800m and can park midfield with cover from the draw. Hard to knock her undefeated record and she looks like she’ll eat up the ground. VEVINSKY has only won once in his life but it was with William Pike aboard when allowed to lead and dictate. Looks to get both of those ideal situations here. DAD’S BIGHEADED is racing in career best form and importantly is holding his consistency. Nice race for him. SKETTA is a consistent mare who is rarely far from the action. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – ROCK MY WAY WIN RACE 6 SPORTS TALK is bursting to win a race. Third behind subsequent winner Eldorado River and Samaria first-up from a fair way off them, fourth behind emerging galloper Emerald Trader second-up and last start finished second to Rockstar Status when never giving up the chase in the home straight. Barrier 1 following Wuhan Warrior looks a suitable map and there’s a cutaway available if required. Goes round eachway and runs his usual eachway race. GAGE ROADS looks the testing material and deserving favourite. Excellent debut run for Grant & Alana Williams and looks like he’ll be flashing home late. DEFIANT DIORITE showed last start that his first-up 300-1 victory wasn’t a fluke. FEDERATION ROCKS ran well at his first start in the State. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – SPORTS TALK EACHWAY RACE 7 MADAM KISSES was a tough pill to swallow at her return to racing. Given two trials at Lark Hill where she impressed in both, she resumed down the 1000m straight at Pinjarra which until then had been a happy hunting ground (2 from 2). Was targeted in betting but simply never had anywhere to go at any stage and went to the line under a hold untested. Provided they’re making ground down the centre expecting her to bounce back and prove hard to hold out late. THE LADY IS A VAMP ran well behind Capital Flight and Tadweer in a 60+ Graduation fresh. Stable is on fire and she’s double figures. KING CRUZER is not the easiest horse to catch but on his day he’s more than capable in this grade. Goes well fresh and can carry weight. FOREVER AUTUMN is drawn awkwardly but the claim helps his cause. Numbers: 3 – 7 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – MADAM KISSES WIN RACE 8 MAHALEO went into his first up assignment over a month after his solid trial. Loomed the winner on straightening but was unable to reel in Birdieagle. Should take natural improvement from that effort and with even luck in running looks the one to hold out. Versatile type but his best runs have been when saved up for a big finishing sprint. If conditions allow, he can sit back and zap these late. MOSQUITO ran well last start in a 60+ Graduation. Comes back in grade and gains the services of William Pike. Plenty to like about the lightly raced gelding from an in-form yard. EMERALD TRADER has his first look at Ascot. Always shown huge ability at trials and is finally putting it together on the track. THOROGOOD was a big win at Pinjarra. If he reproduces, he’s another live chance. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – MAHALEO WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,3,5,7 1,7 3,7 1,2,3,5 Market Market
