Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on August 5, 2025August 5, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 JUST WALTER JOHN ran third on debut to Da Generals Son and Girls On Fire before running third to Monte Tremezzo and Storm Away. Not much to write home about in terms of form references since but it is 2 year old Saturday racing back into a 3 year old maiden. THINK PINK DAZE improved sharply from her first trial to her second and if Northam plays anything like it has over the last few months then she’ll get her chance to settle midfield and then make her way towards the outside fence on straightening. LEAFICE travelled quite well in her recent trial and didn’t have much room to move until it was over. RIGATONI was thrown in the deep end on debut. Numbers: 2 – 11 – 9 – 6 Suggested Bet – JUST WALTER JOHN WIN RACE 2 SPICY TANG is quick and did give plenty of cheek over 1100m behind Gods Rapture and Wonderfully Made back in March. Only off a 400m jump out in typical Luke Fernie style and with the claim for Chanel Cooper she’s got no weight and could be on a jump and run mission. JIMMY ANGEL ran second on debut to Loves Talking in a high rating 2 year old Saturday race. Wanted to see a bit more out of his trial? DESERT LIFE is drawn off the track but has trialled like a filly with plenty of ability. MAHLERS MELODY was also in that same barrier trial and was only half a length off her and draws more favourably on race day. Numbers: 11 – 9 – 13 – 14 Suggested Bet – SPICY THANG WIN RACE 3 GOD SHES SASSY has seemingly put it all together this preparation. Broke her maiden by a space and then won well down the 1000m straight where she looked lost and was laying inwards towards the middle of the track. She’ll jump and cross them here and from that point onwards it’s up to Joey Azzopardi to find the right part of the track. IMMORTAL BLISS makes his WA debut off the back of a seriously good trial. Tracked up speedy mare Niccimota and ran past under a hold. MAGALI MAGIC ran some nice races last prep. GO GO GROMMET has shades on first time. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – GOD SHES SASSY WIN RACE 4 THINK QUICK is knocking on the door and this looks the kind of race that it could open for her. She’s finished second to Ranyx (now a C1 winner) and most recently finished second to Triple The Chant (goes around favourite at Belmont on Wednesday). Drawn to get every chance. ZANDON actually attacked the line really well last start and gave the impression he was wanting further. 9 year old maiden – scenes. AUTHORATIVE has gone close to breaking through on a few occasions for Tara Itzstein. IFF YOURE READY back in distance and back into a maiden. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – THINK QUICK WIN RACE 5 NINE BALL went under at $1.24 first-up – yuck. Going to tip into her again because her debut in a 3 year old 0MW 1400 was really good and her trial beating home Bulletin Beau was soft. No idea what went wrong fresh but hopefully bounces back here. TOSCANO trialled nicely at Belmont and then held his own behind Romance Calling, beating home Nine Ball in the process. KENTUCKY DRIVE improved sharply second-up when splitting Champagne Crusader and I Love Lucy A Lot (both race Wednesday at Belmont). MIDNIGHT EXPRESS has his first start for Luke Fernie and had trialled well for Colin Webster leading into his debut. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 10 – 3 Suggested Bet – NINE BALL WIN RACE 6 DELICATE RULER was extremely well placed first-up into a 46+ and was brave after being headed halfway up the straight. Drops 1.5kg here and should again be able to slide forward and either cross to lead or park up outside of Whats The Point if they elect to ride him for speed. ENCHANTED STAR is a last start maiden winner, but having been scratched on July 23rd means that she’s into this a month between runs from a tricky alley. SILENT ARMADA won well first-up and then has got too far out of his ground at his next two. Up in trip to suit. ROCK DEE JAY runs placings for fun. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – DELICATE RULER WIN RACE 7 MANHATTAN STRIP is racing well. Won first-up, chased hard behind a blistering leader second-up, ended up in the wrong part of the track third-up (behind a subsequent winner too) and then last start was badly blocked when looking like he had plenty to offer. Winnable for him. CLIMB ON TOP has run three consistent races this prep without threatening. He’ll pinch one soon. COSMIC ECLIPSE had shades added for the first time last start but they didn’t have the sharp improvement factor desired. BEST OF THE GODS won well but beware the 46+ form. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 9 – 5 Suggested Bet – MANHATTAN STRIP WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,3,6 1,3,6,10 1,2,6 1,4,5,9 Market Market
