Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on June 13, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 KILLARNEY is the first Peters Investments – Ike Racing debutante and looked good at trials when running down Balayage Babe with 4.6L back to third. Makes his debut at 1400m and the way Northam has been playing so far this season it’s suiting those who sit back and work their way to the middle of the track. That’s Pike’s bread and butter. WONDER WEAPON has only had two starts and has been handy in both. Finished fourth last start when doing her best late. Extra trip should suit. QUEEN’S SACRIFICE can find the top and give cheek. TEMPTING STAR makes her debut and will get out over further based on her trials. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – KILLARNEY WIN RACE 2 PRINCESS MILLI has done nothing wrong in two starts this preparation. She sat three wide throughout in her return to racing when recording a strong and brave second behind Uncle Gerard. She then got a fair way back when running home stylishly into second behind leader and eventual winner Chipolartie. Pike jumping off is never ideal but she’s drawn to get the run of the race. IFFUBLUSH had shades go on last start and went down in a tight photo. Willie would have had the choice of three in this and he’s stuck with Iffublush. SECRET ATTRACTION worked home nicely on debut through traffic and should only improve. JIVE KING ran well into second splitting Fashion Stakes and Heavenly Lady (both run Wednesday at Belmont). Numbers: 7 – 8 – 9 – 2 Suggested Bet – PRINCESS MILLI WIN RACE 3 GOLD KEEPER was annihilated in betting at his return off the back of a super impressive trial. He was chasing from a fair way out and then was no match for Weaponize late in the piece. Not entirely convinced he was loving life on the Heavy track so hopefully there’s not as much rain around this week. Won’t be a maiden long at all. DE LA BEAUTE has now put three runs together and is knocking on the door. Showed a lot more gate speed last start which is always a positive. GALAXIAN GIRL finished off well in the wet behind Loopy’s Baby at her return to racing. JAKE THE PEG trialled up better this time in. Numbers: 1 – 8 – 10 – 4 Suggested Bet – GOLD KEEPER WIN RACE 4 MAJOR MARIO was a very quiet trial at Belmont on 22 May (on the wrong part of the track too) and then went into a 0 – 72 trial when beating home winners Success Play and Aztec Ruler. Hard to ignore the trials. Is the half brother to Playing Marika and is a big watch on debut. SAINT EADIE trialled well leading into his return and ran well when second to Loopy’s Baby. CALL IT A LOAN has now trialled well in multiple preparations and clearly has a level of ability. THE BIG ONE has ability but seems to find one or two better on each and every occasion. Finished second on six separate occasions in a frustrating career to date. Numbers: 6 – 5 – 9 – 1 Suggested Bet – MAJOR MARIO WIN RACE 5 FAT ROY SLIM has turned into a handy provincial stayer since joining William Lewthwaite’s yard. Won a very similarly graded 54+ 2000 at Pinjarra two starts ago and then loomed large before being ground down by Arnray and Alkaline who looked to simply handle the Soft7/Heavy8 track better than him. Hard to ignore the way he’s going. DANCE OF THE SOUTH missed the kick and ended up shuffled back to an awkward position last start. Forgive. GIN ‘N’ SWANIC is going better than numerical form suggests and now has a senior going on. GALARIAN has been strong at his last four. Numbers: 1 – 9 – 12 – 4 Suggested Bet – FAT ROY SLIM WIN RACE 6 LADY DUCKWORTH was just starting to build into it last start when she was chopped out for a run. Love the way she picked herself up and came again late in the race. One of many hopes in a wide open event. CABLE GUY has been in great form for a while now. Winner at Narrogin four starts ago and then placed at his net three. He’s proving himself as a stayer. BUCKLAND stuck on well last start. He’s going alright. DIVINE MERCY gave them something to catch at Belmont last start. Encouraging front running display. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – LADY DUCKWORTH EACHWAY RACE 7 RYEWOOD is looking to win three on the trot. She has found her sweet spot at a mile and maps to get an identical run to what she has enjoyed in victory at her past two starts. She’s only got 55kg on her back and she doesn’t strike a C5 with any real stars. Suitable race for her to continue her progression through the grades. ZADAR ROCK has been hit or miss throughout his career. He’s a different animal when he finds the fence. Not sure he can cross Yeman Lass though. BEAT THE BRO hasn’t won for a long time but continues to hit the line. CANDLELIGHT SUPPER is an honest mare. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – RYEWOOD WIN RACE 8 HE’SGOTWINGS will be back and wide. That’s been the best spot to be at Northam since opening day and see no reason why with Pike sticking we wouldn’t be tipping him again. He’s got raw talent and now that he’s won another race, he can start to put it all together. They’re hard to figure out but think he’s a get back sprinter so staying at 1100m a positive. VILLAGE GIRL and UNDER INFLUENCE are both handy 3 year olds who can win better than just C3 races in the provincial area. Both are drawn to get the runs they need. THE REPUBLICAN is hard to catch but tends to put in a good one fresh. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – HE’SGOTWINGS WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,3,4,7,9,10,12 1,2,3,6,8 1,3,4,7 7 Market Market
