Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on August 10, 2022August 10, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 EXPOROSE finished second to Symphony In Red on debut, second to Empress of India (beating home The Great Hoya and Mia Gusto) and then stretched to 1300m last start when leading into the corner and only fading late. Think this is a nice middle ground for her. SPAGHETTI was reinstated to this line-up due to a clerical error and adds a bit more depth to the race. Liked the trial and is drawn to get a gun run. REEL THEMOFF did it tough in his trial behind Birthday Ballot and kept coming. SOFIA’S SYMPHONY improves off the first-up effort. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – EXPOROSE WIN RACE 2 NUNES was never taken out of first gear in her recent trial by Shaun O’Donnell. Drawn barrier 1 and will likely end up midfield with cover. Needs some luck but has a turn of foot to get herself out of trouble. Finished second to Swear To God first-up last campaign. SHOOTING KONTIKI does everything right and from the draw will get every possible chance. Finished third behind Mia Gusto, Uncle Gerard and Fly Away Home first-up and that’s good form for a maiden. SWEETCHINO had to do it from the breeze on debut at 1200m. Should take great benefit from the race experience. RUSSIAN SNIPER was working through his gears late in his trial. May need further. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet – NUNES WIN RACE 3 BEACH WEST trialled super under Brad Parnham at Lark Hill. Will be ridden half a kilo over at 54 but that’s still a good indication that Brad Parnham is willing to ride that weight at the provincials in a maiden. Looks to have come back well. WESTERN KNIGHT will have admirers. His recent trial was strong behind Belle Noir and looks like he is slowly but surely working out what it’s all about. IMAGE OF PRO couldn’t find the fence on debut and looked all at sea. Unlikely to find it here either. BLACK FOR CASH can work home well off the back of a spirited tempo. Numbers: 11 – 4 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – BEACH WEST WIN RACE 4 QUEENSHIP is double nominated for Wednesday at Belmont and Thursday at Northam. Think she’s clearly the one to beat on Wednesday but if they do elect to scratch and save for Thursday then she looks more than capable of winning this. Looks to have a short sharp turn of acceleration suited to sprint races. BUTTERFLY HOUSE was ridden quietly in a recent trial and can go well fresh. DEFENDING had no luck when resuming. Has been nominated a few times looking to find the right race. YEMAN LASS finds this easier than her first-up assignment. Numbers: 6 – 5 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – QUEENSHIP WIN RACE 5 GEORGE GENTLY trialled nicely behind Image Of Pro at Belmont Park and then was specked in the market at his return to racing. Finished off well into second behind handy filly Sweet Tea and beat home Haydross. Think that’s nice maiden form. BAILEE’S PRIDE may still need the run for experience because she’s very new and very green but there’s clearly a motor in there. ANNA’S BOY is never far from the action and is drawn to get a soft run. KIA ORA JEWEL ran well fresh but the draw hurts. Numbers: 3 – 11 – 5 – 9 Suggested Bet – GEORGE GENTLY WIN RACE 6 DELICATE BABE looks classy. Has been given time and has had a number of trials over a number of preparations. Most recent trial she gunned down Princess Milli (who will be popular in the following event) and think that we’ll see one who is better than maiden grade here. Can’t imagine she’ll be missed in the market but can always hope! SEND ‘EM trialled well and ran well enough first-up. THUDNER OF GUNS was disappointing last start. First-up run was sound. GARDEN QUARTZ may be better suited with cover. Improver after a poor display last start. Numbers: 10 – 5 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – DELICATE BABE WIN RACE 7 PRINCESS MILLI has finished second in all three of her trials over two different preparations for two different trainers. Most recently finished second to Delicate Babe and expecting that mare to go bang in Race 6 and make the trial form stand out. Drawn to get a lovely run and should be hard to beat on debut. HAYDROSS has finished third to Brighid and third to Sweet Tea and George Gently. Looks the danger. STARTEDWITHAKISS improved sharply first-up to second-up. CANNY CONI an improver. Numbers: 11 – 1 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – PRINCESS MILLI WIN RACE 8 DIVINE PAIR has come back to racing well this campaign and is bursting to win one. Finished second to Spirited Session (subsequent Saturday winner) first-up and then finished second to Double Jeopardy after sitting wide throughout from an awkward draw. Looks a thinner race and if the focus heads towards Real Danger in the market he might just get to an attractive price. REAL DANGER looks exactly that: a real danger. Drawn to get a soft run in transit and has been finishing off well at trials. SHORT TALK and CHOIX DE LACE can jump to the front and give a kick. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – DIVINE PAIR WIN RACE 9 BENJI’S should be getting the job done here. Has shown above average ability his entire career and has done the vast majority of his racing in Saturday company. First-up in a 66+ sat three deep the trip and finished fourth behind Savage One and Ginger Flyer. Second up finished second to Multinational, beating home Mr Mt Walker. Drops into a C1 and is drawn a gate. SHE’S OUR WITNESS got over them late in a high speed, high pressure maiden last start. Looks progressive. COMPLETED found traffic last start and was luckless. HIS EMINENCE should be ready to show his best. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 8 – 3 Suggested Bet – BENJI’S WIN RACE 10 LET’S GALAHVANT is racing with great consistency at the moment. Winner of three of his last six and was brave last start after sitting three deep the trip without cover and finishing a narrow second to Dorado and Thomas Magnum. Great placement, great use of the Taj Dyson claim and can tow ball Inflation into the corner. INFLATION is almost ready to win one. Doesn’t win out of turn but is getting very close. MISS VASARI will sit back and can reel off a sharp L600. DEVINE BEAST is going really well. Just can’t buy a gate or a map. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – LET’S GALAHVANT WIN Quaddie (Race 7 – 10) 1,11 1,5 1 1,3 Market Market
