Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on October 14, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 MISS MARANTA is kept fresh 28 days between runs and in the small field she should get her opportunity. This is not a deep field and, in the race won by Xan Bio she beat home Top Trade and Admired comfortably. Jordy Turner will settle her rearward and come with a sustained run. TOP TRADE is looking to give Michael Grantham his first winner as a trainer and went close two starts ago. Leads or breezes and gives a sight. ADMIRED has always looked like he would stay. Comes from a fast run race at York where he beat home some horses who have won races. VELVET ROOM ran well first-up but one paced second up. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – MISS MARANTA WIN RACE 2 BOONDI ROCKS has trialed up nicely for his return to the races and worth noting that master trainer Colin Webster has him nominated for the 3 year old features later in the summer carnival. 1000m looks like it will be short of his ideal distance but can go well fresh here. EVEN MAGIC was well regarded on debut and the target of strong money. Recent trial sound and can hold a spot in the run. GIANCAN is double nominated for Wednesday and Thursday. This looks the nicer assignment. SCORPION STORMZ can run a race on debut off the back of a nice trial. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet – BOONDI ROCKS WIN RACE 3 LASTING IMPACT is drawn in the carpark on Wednesday at Ascot and in the prime position here at Northam on Thursday. If they do scratch from Wednesday and save for this she looks hard to beat. Was only a 400m jump out but she was very impressive and all her juvenile race form stacks up. KICK A GOAL SON can box seat and enjoy a suck run in behind the lead. CHOIX DE LACE runs a quick 950 and a paddling last 50. LETS CUT LOOSE looked to have some speed at trials and should end up in a reasonable spot in the run. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 5 – 9 Suggested Bet – LASTING IMPACT WIN RACE 4 MAN OF THE HOUR was a reasonably good run two starts ago behind Notorious One (who has since won a C3 and races Wednesday as an odds on favourite). Last time out was a big drifter and ran accordingly but the winner (Sentimental Hero) could be a Derby type and this is a very thin race. REDMILL has had 23 outings and is yet to crack it but he ran well first-up at an unsuitable trip. BLOCK OF LAND looks too big for his own good. Lump of a horse who doesn’t seem to know where to put his legs. OUR D’AMOUR ran alright first-up. Much better than her trials at least. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – MAN OF THE HOUR EACHWAY RACE 5 I’M EUGENE ran 11th of 12 on debut and was beaten 9.25L but it actually wasn’t that bad an effort. Was on a Soft6 (all trials Good4), was only 1000m and if you break it down he actually ran the 3rd fastest final 400m of the race. Steps to 1400m, draws a gate and back on top of the ground could be a mad one at odds. Liked all his trials. VITAL TIMES is knocking on the door and Ryan Hill had the choice of a few rides here. BRAVE ANGEL finished off her trial well and this is not a deep race. FLETCHER ROAD ran well on debut but very flat 6 days later. Numbers: 5 – 8 – 11 – 3 Suggested Bet – I’M EUGENE EACHWAY RACE 6 DEPUTANO resumed first-up no trial in the race won by Caerhelan. Should derive benefit from the outing, drops 1kg and is a fairly versatile type of mare who can be ridden on pace or off pace. Looks to be a wide open affair and should be nearly eachway the field. CAERHELAN had a long time away from the winner’s circle but great to see her bounce back to some of her best form which saw her competitive in Saturday 3year old grade. PHANTOM’S STAR was huge last start and Rusty Stewart is on fire. AY TEE EMM gets it soft from the draw. Numbers: 4 – 7 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – DEPUTANO EACHWAY RACE 7 SWEET DREAMIN was a model of consistency in a long preparation when last in work. Recorded back to back C3 victories in December/January before scoring a C5 win. Carried 60kg in a Graduation Race when splitting Solid Azza and King Blitz before running into horses like Celebrity Queen, Cryptic Love and Condor Heroes in the metro area. Nice placement by Holly Locke and he trialed up well. ZIEBELL only knows one way and with the blinkers on he’ll run. MY DEMI can run a race at a price from time to time. BELLE OF LIBERTY trialled like her former self. Can be forgiven for one flop. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – SWEET DREAMIN’ WIN RACE 8 MAGICAL DREAM looks like extending the lovely run of Bob Peters 3 year olds returning in C1 races and being simply too powerful and too classy. Real Grace smashed them, Mystical View clocked incredible late splits to score and now Magical Dream returns. Drawn to sit in the box seat and even from three back the fence looks too good. PLAYING RED comes back to 1100 after a flat run last start. DIFFERENTIATOR won like a filly who would go through the grades last start and gets weight off. SOLARAIZE can always go well fresh. Numbers: 8 – 3 – 9 – 1 Suggested Bet – MAGICAL DREAM WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 3,5,6,7,8,10,11 1,4,5,7,11 1,2,3,4,8 8 Market Market
