Scott Embry’s Thursday Geraldton Preview Posted on January 23, 2024January 23, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 VIKING FOREVER looks like he’s ready to win. Finished third behind Fine Line after sitting on top of a genuine tempo and then last start kept coming in the home straight when finishing second behind Hero In The Wind just ahead of a brave Miff Muffered Moof. Back to 1100 and barrier 1 both in his favour. MIFF MUFFERED MOOF (Who? How? Why?) was excellent on debut when tramping wide throughout and kept coming late. Far better drawn here. BIG BOPPER won a recent trial at Geraldton and looked good in doing so. HOLY SPY has turned into the Tom Melbourne of Geraldton racing. He’s run placings at his last five outings and been beaten under a length on three of those occasions. Numbers: 2 – 9 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – VIKING FOREVER WIN RACE 2 GLYDA brings alternate form and might sneak under the radar a bit here. Thought the effort at 30-1 when wide throughout two starts ago behind The Collector and Audio Boy was encouraging and showed it was no fluke when only beaten 6L in a C1 last start. Back in a maiden and drawn to get a decent run. Keep safe at odds. STAY ASTERN finished a narrow (and luckless) second only three starts ago and hasn’t exactly had the rub of the green at his two runs since. I’M ON was big again last start. She’s drawn barrier 15 which hurts but she regains Troy Turner which is a big offset. BALI BELLY is racing well and can come out running. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 12 – 6 Suggested Bet – GLYDA EACHWAY RACE 3 SPIRIT MAN has been excellent since arriving in Geraldton with Julia Martin. Won a C2, won a 58+ and has been excellent at his last two in defeat. Most recently he was drawn barrier 11 of 13 but that didn’t stop the punters from still backing him into an outright favourite at $2.90. He’s drawn brilliantly here and provided he runs out a strong 1400m looks the one they’ll have to beat. STARTTHEFRIAR showed a little something back in November when second to Russian Sniper and third behind Bold Prophet in a 70+. Both those good runs were with Troy Turner and he’s back on here. Respect. BE SEATED hasn’t raced in 58+ company much over the last 12 months. Good placement. JUSTHANDY could lead and dictate. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – SPIRIT MAN WIN RACE 4 BLUE CHEYENNE went into last start 45 days between runs and was still very popular in betting. He rattled home into third behind What A Prince and Westozi. That was a 70+, this is a 58+ and he’s a previous winner with 60kg which should relieve the concerns about him rising up 6kg in weight. Nice race for him. ALLABOUTTHECRAIC loomed large last start in a Westspeed Platinum. She’s proven at Geraldton and she’s in great form. MONEY FOR OLD ROPE can slide forward and park just off Brisance. Been a good money spinner this prep. BRISANCE finds a race where he can lead and try to break them open. That’s how he likes it. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – BLUE CHEYENNE WIN RACE 5 BUTTERFLYROCK was brave last start. She was second-up at 1600m, she parked up over the speed, she was 60-1 and yet she defied that price tag and kept kicking late in the race. Not convinced on that as a form reference race but this again looks pretty thin and she’s going to sit close handy and goes round at odds. Why not? YES MISS JANE gets out to 1600m which is a real unknown. She’s the class runner of the race and has the best form but will she stay the trip? NAVY SUN was a maiden in a C1 last start but proved way too good off the back of a 10/10 ride from Joseph See. VANMAN looks to bounce back with Troy Turner on. Numbers: 8 – 5 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – BUTTERFLYROCK EACHWAY RACE 6 DREAM TO ME resumed in a 70+ 1100 at Geraldton a month ago and surprisingly was soft in betting. She defied the drift and won well and gave the impression that she would come on big time second-up. Looked like she was peaking over the last 50m and with added fitness here should be hard to beat again. CORN COB is aggressively placed. He’s dropping out of a Listed Miss Andretti Stakes into a c70+ at his home track in Geraldton. Has 63.5kg AFTER the claim for Ava Catarino. He’s run second with 61.5kg previously and he’s the best horse in the race but the weight is an ask. WHAT A PRINCE has been up and down in distance like a trotter but continues to race well. THREE SESSIONS is yet to find his best. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – DREAM TO ME WIN RACE 7 WELL PLAYED was too good to ignore fresh. Was a big day for the Albert Bowtell yard and this mare was electric. She won impressively and was given a great ride by young apprentice Ava Catarino. If she reproduces she’s hard to beat again. GOLDEN FIGHTER looks like he’ll be winning races in Geraldton. Like the Poy booking. TYCOON DEMON was a late scratching at the most recent Geraldton meeting. Has a barrier blanket and a set of pre-race earmuffs going on for this race, but it’s interesting to note that last start (before being scratched) the blinkers came off and now a fortnight later Jodie Liakousis has decided to keep them on. Barrier looks ugly. PLATINUM SHOT is accepted Thursday and Friday. Hard to beat if starting in Geraldton rather than Bunbury. Numbers: 11 – 1 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet – WELL PLAYED EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,3,4,5 2,3,5,8,10 1,3,7 1,2,3,4,9,11 Market Market
