Scott Embry’s Friday Bunbury Preview Posted on January 23, 2024January 23, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 BONDI PLUNGE has always shown above average ability. She was scratched from a 3 year old 0MWLY on Wednesday at Belmont Park to be saved for this maiden and provided she doesn’t get run off her legs early she should be right there in the finish late. Loved her recent trial matching motors with Safekeeper. HOOCHIE GUCCI has trialled up well for his debut including winning a recent 950m trial at Lark Hill. Has the speed to hold a spot from barrier 1, if not look to kick through. MAGNASONIC ran second to Terratiff on debut and she was enormous on Sunday at Bunbury. Happy to follow that form. MARCHING trialled super leading into his WA debut but didn’t fire a shot first-up. Numbers: 9 – 6 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – BONDI PLUNGE WIN RACE 2 SIMPLY THINKIN’ went to Geraldton on debut and did a great job to get within 1.5L of the winner late. The trial behind Brazen Empress leading into that display was solid and with a bit more race experience it wouldn’t surprise to see her go well regardless of the fact that she’s got country maiden form to her name. DON’T WAIT FOR LUCK was backed from $5.50 into $2.80 at his return to racing and unfortunately for Lucy Fiore she was forced to sit in behind them waiting for luck in the home straight. Second-up he has a set of shades on and looks like he’s got a short sharp sprint on him. DON’T TELL NAN looked good in her recent Lark Hill trial win and immediately gathered social media attention (well Taj’s highly popular Insta story…). DUBAI’S DAUGHTER is running her races before the gates even open. Numbers: 11 – 1 – 9 – 8 Suggested Bet – SIMPLY THINKIN’ WIN RACE 3 CALL OF DUTY has won three of his four barrier trials to date. Won a trial in May 2023 and was tipped out, finished third behind Brave Sprit and Idyllic Ruler in Seotember before winning a Lark Hill 950m trial and now has again won a 950m trial leading into his return to racing. He’s got barrier 1 to use and he looks to have a few gears. BRAZEN EMPRESS trialled really well but didn’t flatter first-up. Blinkers on for the first time. Deserves another chance, especially coming out of the Our Rocky Bay/Prince Of Santos race. ROYAL ACCOLADE ran into some very sharp maidens earlier this preparation. IMPENDING FEATURE comes back in distance and will look to burn across. Numbers: 9 – 15 – 2 – 14 Suggested Bet – CALL OF DUTY WIN RACE 4 ALASKAN split subsequent winners Playing Rio and King’s Call two starts back in the $50,000 Westspeed Platinum maiden and then went to a 3 year old Saturday when fourth behind King’s Parade, Rocket Juice and Blazing Emerald (races Wednesday at Belmont). This looks a nice race for him to break through for a deserving maiden win. ALIEN CLOVIS beat winners in his 1450m trial and then really ran them along at his WA debut. That race was run 5.5L faster than maiden average and both Canny Rock and Buzz Session have run well in defeat out of it as a form reference. Shades on first time. BE MY BELLE gave plenty of cheek last start and it took Prophet And Power a while to grind her down. LE TROY next best. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 16 – 2 Suggested Bet – ALASKAN WIN RACE 5 BUDGERGIAR has enjoyed a consistently good preparation for the Pearce brothers. Won a 58+ and a 70+ at Geraldton over 1413 before heading back to town when racing wide throughout and then finishing second to Starchienne (races Wednesday at Belmont). Looks the right form, looks the right map and looks the right grade for him. Hard to fault the way he’s going. EEVALINA went to the top last start in a race devoid of tempo and was only run down very late by Cable Boy and Costazita. She’s ready to win again. ROCAPOZZENE has only 55kg on her back and is a pretty sharp jump and run mare. SIMPLE LOGIC is first-up and can go well fresh. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 11 – 5 Suggested Bet – BUDGERIGAR WIN RACE 6 SANTA BRAE has been a bit of a tease throughout his career but he looks to have returned in excellent order for Ross Price. His first-up run from an impossible position on straightening was a ripper and his second-up run was just as good. Racing like he wants further and while he only gets an extra 90m here he’s drawn to have a few behind him in the run. Looks a nice stepping stone for him. SNAZZLER gets out in trip and looks to go better when he’s ridden colder. Capable type with the right run in transit. SUPER ROMANI won well last start in a C1. This is definitely tougher but he’s progressing nicely for Big Col. KHUTOS is tracking along well. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – SANTA BRAE WIN RACE 7 PREMIUM GIRL has a bar plate going on which is always going to be a red flag, however, Tony Triscari produced one at Ascot last weekend with bar plates on all fours and it sat three deep the trip and still won. He’s a trainer that can do it and she’s a filly with plenty of upside. The way she let rip after sitting deep last start was highly impressive. If they can make ground she’s hard to hold out late. CHARLIE JANE raced like she wanted further last start. Came under pressure quickly but kept coming late in the race. TENACIOUS REWARD has a really tricky barrier to contend with but he showed last preparation he’s a Saturday horse in the making. COOL MEMORY wasn’t suited first-up. Big improver second-up. Can even jump out and lead this without surprising. Numbers: 10 – 9 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – PREMIUM GIRL WIN RACE 8 CLOSE AT HAND is 1 from 1. SUNBRONZED is one from 1. PLATINUM SHOT and ROMMING DANGER are impressive last start winners. BLEECKER STREET trialled the house down. MOORDITJ BOY is very capable and AUSPICIOUS drops into a C1 after racing exclusively in Saturday company to date. This is the best C1 race you’ll see at Bunbury in the next 6 months. AUSPICIOUS won a 3 year old 1000 at Belmont beating Snow Prince and Ginnivan first-up last preparation before finishing third behind Oscar’s Fortune and Gold Citation second-up. If she’s fit and firing she’ll be very hard to beat. CLOSE AT HAND was unwanted in betting on debut but won like a horse with a future. SUNBRONZED was yet another D.Harrison straight 1000 winner last Wednesday and was strong late. BLEECKER STREET won’t be a C1 long. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – AUSPICIOUS WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,3,11 1,2,3,5 1,5,9,10 1,3,4,6,7,9 Market Market
