Scott Embry’s Sunday Roebourne Preview Posted on July 30, 2022August 1, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 CHENGDU won back to back 56+ races and then finished fifth but only beaten under a length on Cup Day. Small field suits a swooping type like him, Peta Edwards rides him to his strengths and he looks the class runner. COPPING POINTS was backed heavily in the same race and beat him home. Not jumping as cleanly as he has in previous preparations but from the breeze he’s hard to run down. FOO TROUBLE is a different horse when leading and gets his chance to find the fence. SANTANDER likely finishes fourth. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – CHENGDU WIN RACE 2 TOP NOTCH SCOTCH has turned a corner. Was a long, long time maiden (took 18 starts to break through) and then has won two in a row this track and distance. Has found her niche in leading and provided she can kick through and hold out Northern Chill early then she’ll run another big race. NORTHERN CHILL was a winner this track, distance two starts ago in a higher grade and comes out of the Harding Cup. Must be respected. GINGER SENORITA has been popular in betting all season and can sit off that pair. YOURTHEONEFORME likely runs fourth. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – TOP NOTCH SCOTCH WIN RACE 3 DENGA finished second in a 56+ behind Shinju on Cup Day and that looks like great form for this. Rises significantly in weight but Peta Edwards takes the ride and she has been riding winners for fun this season in Roebourne. RAKIURA is a jump and run type. May be vulnerable late but will be in front a long way. SUNDAY AT SIX was an almost 4L winner of a C3 1200m two starts ago when arriving with Aaron Pateman at Roebourne and then last start stepped to 1400m and was unable to reel in Top Notch Scotch. Back to 1100m may suit? GRATED COCONUT an unknown and newcomer to WA. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – DENGA WIN RACE 4 BOLD VICTORY doesn’t look to be going that well on paper but has been in some tough position in running of recent time. Think he’s going better than numerical form suggests, has blinkers attached and is drawn a gate. Thin race and could get under the guard. BILLY JACK is yet to set the world on fire on the dirt but this is clearly the weakest race he has seen since arriving in Roebourne and gets his chance to lead. CALLING CARD has been racing well and the Austin Galati claim gets him in well at the weights. MISTINGUETTE next best. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – BOLD VICTORY WIN RACE 5 HUSH NOW has been a surprise packet for Cathy Godden since she joined her team. Won a 56+ beating Foo Trouble and Bold Victory over 1100m at 25-1 at her first start on the dirt and since then has been a shade hit and miss. Thought the last start effort in a C3 beaten only 3.4L by Top Notch Scotch, Sunday At Six and Calling Card (who all race earlier in the program) was strong enough to pinch this. PRETTY ADMIRABLE is rarely far from the action and this looks a nice race for her. NOT REALLY TRUE lead and finished third three starts ago. KALAKAUA bolted in at Derby. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 8 – 4 Suggested Bet – HUSH NOW WIN RACE 6 OMBUDSMAN certainly doesn’t win out of turn but the full 2200m of the Port Hedland Cup is something that won’t worry him. Finished second to Crossaro in the Roebourne Cup and meets him 2kg better at the weights. Jess Gray sticking with him is a big plus and he’ll go round eachway. CROSSARO had been showing enough to suggest he was a live hope in the Roebourne Cup and Peta Edwards produced one that will forever sit in the highlights reel. Was winning a long way out. BLOCK OF LAND takes on the more seasoned stayers and steps out to 2200m for the first time. He has been smashing them recently. ABLE ENGINE didn’t get much luck last start and has been going well. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – OMBUDSMAN EACHWAY RACE 7 GATES OF BABYLON was an intriguing acceptor in the Roebourne Cup stepping out to what looked an unsuitable 2200m. Thought he did a great job to lead them for as long as he did and now dropping back to 1400m and dropping down to 56.5kg he gets his chance to lead and win. RHINO BUSTER dropped back from 1800m to 1400m last start and did a super job to go as close as he did in the middle of his preparation. He’s been a ripper for such a long time and looks like he has another season or two in him. MYBAK has been racing well since opening day. WELD is proving very hard to catch. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – GATES OF BABYLON WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,3,5 1,6,8 1,2,3,5,8 3,4,6,7 Market Market
