Scott Embry’s Sunday Port Hedland Preview Posted on July 12, 2024July 12, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SHOOTING KONTIKI has been a really honest campaigner for Tom Pike this season and is proven at Port Hedland. He can bounce straight on the lead from barrier 3 and from there takes running down. CHEDDAR BOB hasn’t raced since he bolted in a 1400m maiden at Roebourne. He won that day by 6L but could have won by 20L – Michael Heagney started posing for the camera at the furlong marker. Hasn’t been seen for 5 weeks – that’s the unknown. DARE ME actually beat Cheddar Bob narrowly in their maiden in late May. CALICO’S GIRL next. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – SHOOTING KONTIKI WIN RACE 2 ESPIRITO is the first ride on the program for a travelling Jarrad Noske. He’ll ride Beaufine Stakes equal favourite Nerodio at Belmont on Saturday and then on Sunday he’ll be 1600km North in Port Hedland. This horse is going from strength to strength and should be hard to beat again. AMELIA’S BELIEF got closest to him last start and has the speed to lead him here. Interesting to see if they try and hold Espirito out. WAKAN TANKA is a Broome specialist. Waiting for him to return there. ROCKSTAR STATUS a watch at her first dirt outing. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – ESPIRITO WIN RACE 3 BENFIN lead at Port Hedland over 1300m and was narrowly defeated by Viking Forest and beat home key rival One Above All in the process. Forget he went around at Marble Bar last weekend. ONE ABOVE ALL looks to be finding his feet on the dirt and has got better in each run. COSMIC SMILE went around in a C1 at Marble Bar and kept the $1.50 favourite Feels Hot honest throughout. Getting close now. PLATINUM EXPRESS was crunched in betting at Marble Bar before settling last. Watch. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet – BENFIN WIN RACE 4 YARDSTICK won impressively from midfield in a 56+ 1200 back in early May and then four starts later won again same track/distance/grade when beating Archer County by a length. They meet again here and with the addition of Jarrad Noske to the saddle expect that Yardstick will be popular. He can be put into the race and has won at 1300 previously. ARCHER COUNTY is drawn out there with him but has the tactical speed to drive across and find a spot close handy. JACKEMJAMES has been a model of consistency all season. SUPER SALSA was really well found when winning last start. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – YARDSTICK WIN RACE 5 REGINALD looks a real Cups type for Timothy Pike in his first season as a trainer. Many were looking forward to a potential clash between Reginald and Zadar Rock who have both stamped themselves as the horses to beat in the coming weeks but with no Zadar Rock it looks another wonderful opportunity for Reginald to lead and win. KENTUCKY BLUE has finished second to Reginald on two separate occasions and gets big weight on him now. Building. KENTUCKY DREAM ran into Zadar Rock last start. EURASIA is showing glimpses of his old self. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – REGINALD WIN RACE 6 ZADAR ROCK was $4.60 into $1.75 across many corporates last start and didn’t let his loyal following down. He was slowly away (as he can be) but then from the 1000 – 400 he sustained a big run around them and put them away with ease. Dodges Reginald but does run into both Hezazeb and Find Your Man who are flying. Will need to navigate a path away from the inside if he’s slow out. HEZAZEB is getting fitter and is building. FIND YOUR MAN needs to run out 2050m but his last two have been arrogant. ACERMETRIC next best. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – ZADAR ROCK WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) FD 2,3,5 2,7 1,2,4 Market Market
