Scott Embry’s Sunday Mount Barker Preview Posted on February 7, 2025February 7, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SOMETHING ROYAL looks to have found a very nice race at Barker. She’s a 3 year old filly taking on the older horses, she’s got tactical speed to burn forward into a prominent position and she was a big improver last start down the 1000m straight at Pinjarra. Great placement into a country maiden. AMERICNA QUE TEE trialled really well recently beating rival Ricordari by a length and there was a further 7L back to third. RICORDARI is a 5 year old on debut. Patience. SOLO UNALTRO trialled well at Lark Hill back in December. Numbers: 7 – 6 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – SOMETHING ROYAL WIN RACE 2 COCOON GIRL made her debut here at Barker and was $41 into $7.50 when beaten a nose by Chevap. Went around favourite last start at Albany when fourth behind Bling Beach, Quick Cookie and Bulls Eye Perfect. Back to Barker could be key. GINGERQUEST ran really well for a 100-1 pop behind a nice filly at Bunbury last week. TOO TEMPTING is on debut from the in form Misty Bazeley camp and wasn’t bad at the trials for a filly stepping out over 1300 on debut. SCARY MARY is always around the place. Numbers: 7 – 8 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – COCOON GIRL WIN RACE 3 TROOPER PHOENIX is a last start winner at Ascot in a C1 1600m and considering last week at Ascot we saw Royal Splendour come out and win a 0MWLY 1800 it makes the form look even better. 61.5kg and barrier 1 are both obstacles but thinking that they may try and lead again to clear one of those hurdles early. PARC IT IN HERE took a long time to wind up last start and gave the impression she was maybe looking for even further? LATHAMS WISH won well in that event and can go on with it now. WAYNE THE PAIN an improver. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet – TROOPER PHOENIX WIN RACE 4 AGENT JAY is in career best form. Stephen Sheehy has a new Great Southern winning machine to go with Summer Scorcher winner Oxbridge and the way that he has Agent Jay going it will take a big performance to beat him. He can win leading, he can win swooping – he’s just in a great place at the minute. CRYSTAL VAIN ran well at Ascot first-up and no doubt finds this more to his liking. Legitimate danger. STORM COMMANDER and VIA MONTE are both capable on their day. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – AGENT JAY WIN RACE 5 DO DA DITTY has turned into a punters pal recently. Was hammered in betting at Narrogin three back, was hammered in betting last start and on both occasions she’s done the right thing by her loyal following and got the job done. Can win again. SCOPRION RULER is extremely well placed here by Josh Krispyn. She won a C3 1000 at Belmont last prep and ran third to Joker’s Grin and Silver Eye in a 3 year old 0MWLY. Form doesn’t get much better than that at Barker on a Sunday. DYNAMITE BAY is ready to win and loves Barker. CRYSTALIST is always competitive. Numbers: 10 – 3 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – DO DA DITTY WIN RACE 6 FLYING SOUTH won back to back races in the Great Southern before heading to town and racing in a 60+ Graduation at Ascot when less than 4L off Memory Parade and Our Mate Archie. That pair contest a 66+ 1400 on Saturday and if either of them go well then it will only make Flying South more popular on Sunday. Nice horse. VOMO ISLAND has his first start in WA and looks a very consistent conveyance from his NSW days. ZAC LUVS TO FLY can lead and give cheek. PRETTY DEVINE has been in work a long time but is still racing well. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – FLYING SOUTH WIN RACE 7 BRAVE CONTENDER is 1/1 at the Mt Barker Cup distance and think that he’s in good enough form to give the Cup a shake in 2025. Strong on speed effort last time out when descended up late by I Dreamed A Dream (who had metro Ascot form) and can enjoy a nice run tracking Big Swoop in a race which should be nearly eachway the field. BEAUTIFUL BAROQUE was a bit stiff in the same race and should have finished closer. DUCHEES DEMERIT is more than capable but will need a big steer from the barrier. DEADLY AND FAST always looms. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – BRAVE CONTENDER EACHWAY RACE 8 SONG STORY is knocking on the door. Third behind subsequent winner Hit The Jackpot in a C3 1000 and then second behind stablemate Warralea Lass in a C2 1230 and now splits the difference over 1100m at Barker. No stars in this and gets his chance. DUKE OF WELLINGTON is well placed by Bob McPherson. Last win was strong in a deeper race than this. Just needs luck. MY LOVELY PET would be a big chance if he was able to cross from out deep. KIA ORA TATOU a watch for the new yard. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet – SONG STORY WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 3,7,10 1,4,6 1,2,3,4,5 2,3,5,9 Market Market
