Scott Embry’s Sunday Kalgoorlie Preview Posted on July 28, 2023July 28, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 MORE LIKELY finished third at Pinjarra two starts back over 1500m and then came to Kalgoorlie when a luckless third behind Duke I Am and subsequent winner I Am King. Races like he wants a mile and he’s the best bred horse you’ll see at the KBRC (Pierro – Delicacy). Rob Gulberti has him going well and he should have no excuse from barrier 1. Always like seeing Poy go on. HAYDROSS chased hard last week but it’s hard to get too enthused about the Got Lucky form. YAKYAK was a few lengths behind More Likely when they met at Pinjarra. AGRABAH is better than he showed last start. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 8 – 6 Suggested Bet – MORE LIKELY WIN RACE 2 SHOOTING KONTIKI has been racing consistently on rain affected tracks in the metro/provincial area. Has sufficient gate speed to kick through and lead or box seat and should be winning a maiden in the near future. Fifth behind Dodge ‘Em, Secrete Style and Lova Session is handy form for a Kal maiden. SET FOR STARDOM has his first start in Kal and wasn’t too bad at trials at Lark Hill. DARE ME went to Kalgoorlie first-up and was extremely popular in betting. Lay outwards, was bumped, mis-strode, did plenty wrong. Was beaten 9L but the run had merit. ELUSIVE DREAM travels well but gets caught flat footed when the sprint goes on. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet – SHOOTING KONTIKI WIN RACE 3 BIRD’S THE WORD was a strong winner last week in 58+ grade and now 7 days later he returns to a 70+ and has the services of a quality senior rider in Michael Poy. He is drawn to get a lovely run throughout and the two Pearce horses both look well placed to fight out the finish. Hard to beat with even luck. GALAXY AFFAIR won well at Kalgoorlie two starts ago and then was not the same horse at Belmont. Back to what is tried and proven. TIME SCALE will win races on the Goldfields. She should burn to the top here. KICK A GOAL SON was a shade disappointing last start. Weight off here. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – BIRD’S THE WORD WIN RACE 4 MR SNIPS has been a find for Joanna Offen. Sat up outside of $1.40 favourite Trigger Finger and gave him windburn in a fast run maiden to win by 3L and then went to a C2 when beaten in the shadows by handy country filly Hidden Ruby. Comes back in grade into a C1 and is drawn to box seat on the back of likely leader The Big One. Looks like the faster the better for Mr Snips. THE BIG ONE found his feet last start and finally broke through for a big win. He has always promised a lot and might be ready to start to deliver. VRANYO and BOONDI ROCKS are both quick but drawn wide. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 8 – 4 Suggested Bet – MR SNIPS WIN RACE 5 FLOBA broke his maiden in style winning by almost 2L and then wasn’t disgraced heading straight into a C2 when beaten 4L by Honest Legend, Maid My Way, Hole In One and Captain Rogers. That’s a deep Class 2 and this is only a Class 1. Drops back in grade, drawn a gate and goes around eachway. Looks a nice set up for him. SAFE SECRET will look to burn across from a wide gate and take up a prominent position. Racing consistently. TWELVE BELLS has his first start in WA. Did win first-up off 121 days last preparation. PENNIES GALORE should be a more than handy Kalgoorlie horse. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – FLOBA EACHWAY RACE 6 SEND ‘EM has turned a corner. The run three starts ago into fourth was massive in a C2 1300. His run last start in another C2 1400 was again impressive when he got caught wide and working from a long way out. Never gave up the chase and kept closing the margin late. Michael Poy goes on and it looks like he’s changed hands from an ownership perspective given the change in colours. CHANG MAN was a really nice trial last Sunday. MINGORA had excuses at her WA debut. DUKE I AM is racing really well and drawn soft. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – SEND ‘EM WIN RACE 7 HILTON has to carry 61kg but the fact that Nicholas Thomas has elected to engage a senior rider rather than an apprentice looks a show of confidence. He should get a lovely run from the ideal barrier draw and his best saw him win a Coolgardie Sprint last preparation by over a length. Yet to fully fire this campaign but it looks a winnable race for him. HONEST LEGEND has been a nice acquisition for Andrew Inglis and Peter Fernie. Takes luck out of his racing with a positive pattern. TOTAL LOCKDOWN has been going well all campaign. DANCE OF THUNDER brings an intrigue and X-Factor to what is a deep race. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet – HILTON EACHWAY RACE 8 LAUGHING BUDDHA threw the race away two starts ago under CJP when he refused to go straight. Last Sunday he put on a galloping exhibition after being set alight mid-race by Tash Faithfull. Great to see a rider rewarded for showing initiative and he certainly put a space on them late. This is lengths harder on paper but he’s seemingly progressive and did give My Boy Eddy a lesson. KAZKAZI should be suited into these c58+ races. Some of the runs in Westspeed Platinum/0MWLY in town have been good recently. Keep safe. DEEL RED was better last start but the Kalgoorlie track record is scarily bad. POPCORN TENDER gets the right run behind the speed. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 9 – 2 Suggested Bet – LAUGHING BUDDHA WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,2,3,4 2,4,6,7 1,4,7,9 4,5 Market Market
