Scott Embry’s Sunday Esperance Preview Posted on December 31, 2021January 4, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 MINI COAT showed something last start. Jess Gray jumped on and she hit the line well in a blanket finish behind Just Striking, Rip and Snip and Big Fish. Think that’s stronger form than the Aurae maiden and so going to side up with Mini Coat who has the benefit of the cutaway run if necessary. Open maiden and looks one of a number of live hopes. LUCIE MANETTE has been promising to win a maiden for seasons now. Continually finds one or two better than here. Big plus here is that she looks like leading without pressure. AMELIA’S PICANTE hit the line well last start. Impressive effort. MARTY PARTY was no match for Aurae last week. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – MINI COAT WIN RACE 2 SCENE TO SIN won back to back races in C5 company over 1100m before stepping to 1300m on Boxing Day when finishing third behind I am Spartacus and Cold As Cold. Comes back to 1100m and while drawn a touch awkwardly in barrier 6 of 7 she looks like getting across into a nice position behind Sauvegarde. Holds a tactical advantage and a weight advantage over Alcina and looks the testing material. SAUVEGARDE should roll to the top for Faithfull and control the race. Hard to run down from there. ALCINA is humming at the minute. Chooka Forder’s rock gets an extra carat every time Alcina races. LOOKS LIKE MAGIC grew wings late last start. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – SCENE TO SIN WIN RACE 3 DEE RODMAN scratches from Friday at Mt Barker to save for this maiden at Esperance and think that rookie trainer Alistair Chegwidden will be rewarded. Finished fourth first-up behind Northern Ruler and subsequent Belmont winner Nights Mystery before finishing third to Carlin Road and Cheddar Bob at Narrogin. Kept coming to the line in that event and now with a senior rider on and a barrier he looks to have found his best chance yet. VALENZA was an alarming drifter fresh but still ran well. Few gear changes straight away. AMERICAN SIOUX is proving a hard one to assess. Seems to travel well enough but doesn’t like the pressure going on. AIN’T I A WOMAN was plunged on Boxing Day. Punters were left with burnt fingers when she settled rearward. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – DEE RODMAN WIN RACE 4 ROYAL SOLDIER is working his way through the grades nicely this campaign. After the first-up effort looked the kind of animal who could string a few together and that’s exactly the way it’s panning out. From the draw he should get a similar run to what he has enjoyed his last two and while this is his acid test think he can measure up to these. FAIR JUSTICE is no slouch and definitely brings as strong, if not stronger, form lines to this event. She’ll get back to almost last but her turn of foot is excellent. SALVARA is getting very, very close to pinching another one. WARZACHANTZ is the way that Lisa Staples goes. No doubt would have had first option of Fair Justice and sticks with Warzachantz. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet – ROYAL SOLDIER WIN RACE 5 NOBLE REFLECTION finally broke through last start. You see time and time again with these highly consistent perennially placing types that once they finally break through they invariably go close to making it two on the bounce. Lisa Staples rides again and he meets a field with a number of horses who are either out of form or have been finishing consistently midfield recently. Gets his chance to go back to back. MRS BROWNS BOY was huge first-up at 1300m. Drops 1.5kg, gets an extra 100m and even though he is drawn the outside gate he’s very classy for Esperance. ANOTHER DEMON is stretched at 1400m but going well. INDIAN CHANT an improver after doing a bit wrong last start. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet – NOBLE REFLECTION WIN RACE 6 BORN SPICY steps out to 1300m which will be right on her limit you would think but simply have to side with the Double Spice form. Double Spice looks the kind of horse who could go from C2 to 70+ grade in the one season at Esperance and Born Spicy was the horse that punters crunched to beat him last start. Was no match for Double Spice but that should prove the strongest form reference for C2 racing. Comes out running and will attempt to do it at both ends. POWERFUL was strong last start and deserved to break through. Looks the logical danger. LEADING MAN has been catching the eye and is almost ready. CENSURE didn’t quite show the same turn of foot last start. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – BORN SPICY WIN RACE 7 THE FINEST was well found in betting last start and ran a great race when finishing second to Powerful. Prior to that finished sixth behind Double Spice and Born Spicy so has the form on the board and is starting to fit into the Darryn Pateman mould. Once his tried horses find form they hold it and with a few gear changes and the ideal barrier it looks a great race for The Finest to break through for him. NEUROLOGIC has been competitive in C5 company at her last two. Drops back in grade and only rises 1.5kg in weight. Should go very well. BOLSHOI GAL isn’t actually going quite as poorly as the numerical form suggest. WHEATSTACK THEIF was big last start. Going to wait until he draws a gate. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – THE FINEST WIN RACE 8 ABOARD is a favourite of mine and gets one last chance out to 2000m. Finally gets an ounce of weight relief after the claiming apprentice goes on. Has finished second at 1990 in a C2 and third at 2000m in a 58+ behind Stairwaytothemoon and Deel Red. Has been building into the campaign and should settle right over the top of the speed. Now or never for my mate Aboard. HUSSTAAR gest out sharply in trip but think he’s going quite well. Should get a lovely run midfield with cover. KENNY THE KING may well find himself in front and from there should be leading for a long way. WATTOS REWARD can reel off some sharp closing sections on her day. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 8 – 9 Suggested Bet: ABOARD WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,5,8 1,2,3 4,5,6,7,9,10 4,5,8,9,12,13 Market Market
