Scott Embry’s Sunday Albany Preview Posted on January 6, 2023January 6, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 RIBBING finished second last start behind God’s Moment when leading over 1100m. Gets out to 1230m and while drawn awkwardly in barrier 10 of 13 one of his main dangers Pick and Pay is drawn to his outside and he gains the services of Shaun McGruddy. Wide open maiden but one of the main players. PICK AND PAY went out to 1600m last start and was never in the contest beaten out of sight. Prior run behind stablemate Squillionare was a ripper. MY AFFLICTION is going well and the shades are added. His trial was great and his last run behind God’s Moment was just as good as Ribbing. ZENZERO BAY coming back in trip a query. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 6 – 11 Suggested Bet – RIBBING WIN RACE 2 SALLY CAN WAIT is a long time maiden (start number 16 on Sunday) but her last star effort in a C1 beaten under 3L by Megami was a ripper. She parked in the breeze and never gave it away. She’s better known as a mare who can show a turn of foot from off speed and coming back into a maiden, she looks to get her chance. LOOK HERE PUNK was backed into $2.05 last start from barrier 8 of 13 and was forced to tramp wide throughout and never really looked a winning chance in running. Did a good job to keep whacking away. 1500m looks to suit but another sticky alley to contend with. BONAMICO was huge first-up and second-up. Hasn’t quite reproduced yet. Few gear changes made. WHO BY FIRE caught the eye last start at any old price. Numbers: 10 – 1 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – SALLY CAN WAIT WIN RACE 3 CHAD’S ME DAD should be too strong for these. Finished second to Mosquito first-up in a C3 1300 at Belmont and then finished third to Extra Secret and Saturn Black in a C3 1200 second-up. Last time out finished only 1.8L off Allmamoney in a C3 at Pinjarra and this looks lengths easier. Both career wins are at a mile and she’s drawn to get the right run. BENTLEY BEAU has gone back first-up and second-up at unsuitable distances. Now gets out to a mile for the first time, strikes a race with only moderate speed and should be an improver. THREE EZE resumed a winner in a C1 1400 at Ascot when getting the better of Solid Gold to break a winless streak of over 1000 days. GOD’S MOMENT won her maiden well but at 1100m. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – CHAD’S ME DAD WIN RACE 4 DARK ASSUALT was dropping from a 72+ 1500 behind The Velvet Queen and Casino Seventeen into a 70+ 1200 at Mt Barker. Was able to hold a position in running and from there was too strong late for Sneaky Fox & Co. Out to a mile and up to 62kg is a pair of concerns but question #Roy at your peril. COUNT THE SESSIONS looks just about ready to lead and win one of these races. From the draw CJP should have him in front for a long way in running. ELITE FIGHTER headed to town last start and nothing went his way. Prior form was strong. MR MT WALKER is well placed after the claim. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – DARK ASSAULT WIN RACE 5 EURASIA has been below his best this preparation, however, he is well suited in these 58+ races and he gains the services of Shaun McGruddy. If he’s going to win a race this preparation it’s likely to be one of these country middle distance races with a senior rider aboard. Gets his chance from the perfect gate. SCREAM IN BLUE swept to the front on straightening at Mt Barker and was only gobbled up late by Duchees Demerit. Put the writing on the wall for this and provided Holly Watson can find a back to follow in running from a sticky alley he’ll be hard to hold out. MORTON’S FORK is going far better than reads on paper. CARTANERA is knocking on the door and this is winnable for her. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – EURASIA WIN RACE 6 MR CAUSEWAY won the Regional Championship Final at Ascot under Damien Oliver and then went around an eachway chance last start in a similar 58+ 1230 at Albany. Kept fresh, comes back to 1100m, drawn to get the run of the race and likely to go round eachway again in an open and even event. With Sneaky Fox, Night’s Mystery & Prince Ragnar engaged the speed will be on and that’s exactly what he needs. PRINCE RAGNAR fought hard last start considering he was out to 1300m. He’ll jump and run. SNEAKY FOX was only beaten half a length in a 70+ last start. Very well placed here. TREVELLO there abouts. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – MR CAUSEWAY EACHWAY RACE 7 RIVER RUBICON looks hard to beat in the 2023 Tabtouch Fitzpatrick Plate. Chased hard behind Revitup firs-up in a 1200m 78+ at Ascot and then was eye catching from the back of the field behind highly talented and emerging Listed/Group animal Burnya To Survive last start in another 78+ 1200 at Ascot. Drops into a 72+, Shaun McGruddy jumps back aboard and is drawn a gate to hold a position close handy to the speed. Everything looks ideal for him to bounce back into the winner’s circle. HALATORION finally got clear galloping room last start and demolished them in sizzling time. 66+ horses don’t break 1:09:00. Think he measures up. VANE TEMPEST seems like she has been up for an eternity but continues to race well. KIA ORA STAR is undefeated from three at Albany and the reigning Fitzpatrick Plate winner. Numbers: 3 – 8 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – RIVER RUBICON WIN RACE 8 CABLE BOY resumed in a C5 and finished second to Loki. He was first-up no trial and should only improve here. Drops back into a C2 and looks hard to hold out. Feast or famine as for the loyal Shaun McGruddy following Sunday. ETHEKWINI was gifted a C1 at Mt Barker at her WA debut. She went around $1.28 and never looked in danger at any stage beating up on moderate opposition by 4L. She copped a fair old whack (6 points!) which means she now carries 61kg in a C2 but the fact that Tash Faithfull has elected to stick is a positive. SQUILLIONAIRE has won back to back races is another winning chance for Roy Rogers’ Trigger Lodge (25 runners a quiet day at the office). RUBANNA STAR broke her maiden and then gave cheek last start. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet – CABLE BOY WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,3,5,8 3,4,5,7 3,8 2,4,6 Market Market
