Scott Embry’s Saturday Geraldton Preview Posted on January 6, 2023January 6, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 PATCHWORK has turned a corner in the last month or so. Had always been there abouts but seemed to lack a killer blow and a killer instinct (beaten fair and square in a Geraldton C1 in November). Since then has finished third behind Rockstar Status (since run second in a C3) and was a dominant winner of a C1 over subsequent winner Miss Intention and plunge horse Comealilbitcloser. Found another very suitable race and after the Gaerth claim looks hard to beat. DREAM EVIL has been going well for a while. Can’t buy a barrier or a map but is still attacking the line. MISS EUGEN and GALAGA are both first-up 1400m and both have trialled up well for their return to racing. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – PATCHWORK WIN RACE 2 JEANELLA is a handy filly resuming for Adam Durrant. Won a 2 year old maiden at Belmnont Park on debut beating home future winners Bisector, Gold Keeper, Universal Playboy and Megami. Two starts later finished a length off Revitup in a 2 year old 1000. Wasn’t asked for an effort at trials and gets a 5kg pull in the weights over her main rival. Excellent placement. ORISTANO has finished runner up at his last three outings. He is bursting to win another race but is gradually creeping up in weight even though he isn’t winning and clearing out of this grade. 61kg is an ask. GO GO GRACIE won her maiden in style and prior to that was a complete forgive when knocked over at the 800. FINEST CLOBBER should be a handy Gero mare. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – JEANELLA WIN RACE 3 ELIMINATE is a Geraldton specialist and has been a new mare over the last two seasons since joining John Reynolds’ team. Since flashing home behind Mr Causeway at Ascot in the Regional Championships Final she has run second (beaten a nose) to Bird’s the Word and knocked off talented mare Dream To Me when bursting through traffic late to score. Looks another very winnable race on her way through the grades. ASK AN ANGEL trialled super and then was too strong at her return to racing in C2 company. Drawn awkwardly but has tactical speed to roll across. SNIPPY MISS rarely runs a bad race. LUCY DA GREY is always there abouts. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – ELIMINATE WIN RACE 4 SCHNOOTS finished fourth behind Defiant Diorite and subsequent winners Crystal’s Dream and Magnalee beating home Sanaa and Pennie’s Galore. Has finished second in Geraldton on two occasions and most recently was only 1.5L off Planet Cash, Celebrity Icon and Spirit Man. Deserves to break through. LA DETTE went around $2.05 down the 1000m straight at Pinjarra first-up and finished 2L off them in third. Drawn awkwardly but expecting her to be ridden for speed to come across. YOU CAN TELL ME did it tough first up and kept coming. PEARLS’N’DIAMONDS finds this lengths easier than recent assignments. Numbers: 9 – 10 – 4 – 11 Suggested Bet – SCHNOOTS WIN RACE 5 DESIGNATED DRINKER is two from two for Barry Newnham and 3 from 6 at the Geraldton turf club. Ran second behind Ground Braker in a C3 1800 at Ascot when last in work and shouldn’t have any worries seeing out a 1900 at Geraldton. He’s in the form of his life and Peta Edwards is riding him with great confidence. Rises to 60kg but winning form is good form. BILLY JACK finished 5.5L off them in the Walkaway Cup last start. This is a drop in grade and he can sit up over the speed. GRACE DU ROI was scratched from a winnable race on Friday at Narrogin to save for this. ST JOHN is going well. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – DESIGNATED DRINKER WIN RACE 6 CORN COB gets one more opportunity to win an 11th race at Geraldton before he will (surely) farewell to racing in the region. He now cops 64.5kg in 70+ grade and even after the claim for Cassey Martinan must lump 61.5kg. The only option for him after this is either go to Perth or wait for the 4kg claim of Zephen Johnston-Porter in coming months. He’s an absolute ripper and to finish only 2.7L off Burnya To Survive in a 78+ at Ascot shows he’ll measure up in town. From barrier 1 he can stalk the speed and he’s brave. SANS LE SOU hasn’t had the rub of the green at her last couple. She’s gone under at short odds but she’s had genuine excuses. STELLA FAIR may look to cross. BOMBAY STYLE is hard to run down on his day. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 9 – 2 Suggested Bet – CORN COB WIN RACE 7 BLUE CHEYENNE has come of age this preparation. His first-up run over 1113 behind Albert without a trial was excellent, his second-up maiden win was big and he was eye catching in a C1 behind St John over 1413m last start. He steps to a mile which looks to suit, draws a middle alley to land midfield with cover and is going particularly well. This looks winnable for him. JUSTA LIL FAITH worked her way to the top last start and kept kicking this track and distance. EGG WHITE finds this easier than the 58+ he saw 30 days ago behind Edmond. ALLEGIANCE may be looking for further but is race fit and can be put into the race. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – BLUE CHEYENNE WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 4,9,10 1,3,4 1,5,9 1,3,4,5,7,9 Market Market
