Scott Embry’s Saturday Port Hedland Preview Posted on May 8, 2025May 8, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 ONE ABOVE ALL is a 2x winner at Port Hedland and has actually been racing really well on the grass in Perth. Finished third behind Playing Games in a C3 at Ascot only three starts back and is race fit. Would love to see him lead rather than sit leader’s back and trusting in Rocky Cheung to get him out and rolling. CHAVORIO hasn’t beaten one home on the grass this prep but this is a different kettle of fish. KENTUCKY DREAM has only 51kg on his back beware. FELLAFROMDOWNUNDER might need the run on the dirt. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – ONE ABOVE ALL WIN RACE 2 SHE IS GOD is capable of leading this event. She sat on the breeze at 200-1 last start in a C1 behind Anaballistic and subsequent winner Magnique. Back into a dirt racing maiden, Kyra Yuill aboard – think she’ll give this a shake. MATSOKA has his first outing for new trainer Leigh Murray and has only 53.5kg after the Bailey Webster claim. Definite watch. RICCO D’ORO hasn’t raced since January 2024 so is coming off a 14 month spell. Recent trial was good and he can race on speed. Few ticks but natural query being so long off the scene. BLATANT DISARRAY has been in work for an eternity. Numbers: 7 – 3 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – SHE IS GOD WIN RACE 3 SHINBONER has only raced at Port Hedalnd once and that was when second to Benfin in a 1200m maiden before heading to Broome and breaking his maiden over 1300m. His recent trial was down the straight at Pinjarra and he was only 1.4L off Simply Thinkin’ and looked in good order. Happy to back the Colin Haddon horses first-up. BENFIN has beaten him previously and has had two runs for fitness. VERNACULAR has had a freshen and considering she broke her maiden from the breeze should be able to hold a spot from her draw. PRINCESSA ANJA is speedy. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – SHINBONER WIN RACE 4 SHOOTING KONTIKI hasn’t been racing as well as SIMPLY ROSSO on the grass in the lead up to the start of the Dirt Season but considering he’s had 4 starts at Port Hedland for 2 wins it’s hard to ignore him on the fresh side. He’s jump and run on the dirt and expect that Kyra Yuill will be looking to hold up from the inside. SIMPLY ROSSO finished third down the straight last start – he’s flying. TALKABOUTYOU was excellent at Carnarvon, however, over 1400m. TOTAL LOCKDOWN should be a nice acquisition for Dean Cocivera. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – SHOOTING KONTIKI WIN RACE 5 JACKEMJAMES was arguably the best horse in the region at the end of last season when he won a pair of 56+ races before heading to Broome and taking out the Pearl Classic. Recent trial down the straight behind Prospector’s Pick (fresh metro winner) was great and again he’s another first-up Col Haddon commodity. WAKAN TANKA broke the track record at Broome at one stage last season. He’s more than capable if he’s ready. OUR KIWI PRINCESS was great 38 days ago and is a track specialist. BORDER CONTROL has much more speed than they’ve shown on the grass so far. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – JACKEMJAMES WIN RACE 6 HEEZA BEAU has his first start on the dirt and his recent outings in the provincial and Great Southern area are easily good enough to win if he handles the surface. Risky betting horses who have never raced on the dirt. SHAMARA wasn’t terrible at Dongara behind subsequent winner Dirty Chai. JUST STRIKING is first-up, no trial – that’s different compared to all the stablemates. ROYALZEL once raced Anamoe in a Group One in the Golden Rose. Now in a 56+ at Port Hedland – wild scenes. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – HEEZA BEAU WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 1,2,4 2,5,7 1,2,4 2,3,7 Market Market
