Scott Embry’s Saturday Pinjarra Preview Posted on February 17, 2023March 10, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 EX SPORT MAN has been in no man’s land from a handicapping perspective since his victories in the 2 year old Magic Millions and Karrakatta Plate. After finishing second to Hoi An in the 2021 Sires Produce he finished his 2 year old days as a m82 rater. It has taken him 14 runs and the best part of 2 years to get back down to a realistic handicap rating and now as a 4 year old m67 he is back at a winnable position. Big effort last start when finishing third behind Halatorion (since third in the Cyril Flower) and Stellar Vista. Steve Wolfe/Shaun McGruddy combination on fire and this looks another live chance. HERE’S DREAMING ran home impressively from off the speed behind Sir Mambo fresh without a trial. She’s likely to get back with him and there’s not much between them. CYWER is a lightly raced mare with ability. DANCE COCKEY is rarely far from the action. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – EX SPORT MAN WIN RACE 2 ROCH LEGACY has been around the mark all campaign without winning one. He finished second to Soviet Spy two starts ago and meets him 1.5kg better at the weights, finished fifth behind Currimundi last start and meets him 3.5kg better at the weights. Shades went on last start and immediately come back off and Holly Watson has ridden him well in the past. Looks like landing midfield with cover and runs his usual honest eachway race. SOVIET SPY had been a frustrating follow for punters this campaign but looked a different animal under William Pike. Was 25 days between runs last start so the 28 days between runs shouldn’t deter. CURRIMUNDI was a big winner off the back of a slow tempo last start. Progressive stayer. MY BOY EDDY deserves a bit of luck. Racing like the 2000m will suit. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – ROCH LEGACY EACHWAY RACE 3 RIVER RUBICON was stiff not to win the Mt Barker sprint when KO’d on the corner and then let rip with a big turn of foot late off the back of a hot tempo (race run 4L faster than average). He’ll again sit midfield, he’ll again look to work his way into clear air and he’s a winner. Think there’s more in store for him and this looks another winnable race. Last 90 days McGruddy/Wolfe: 52 starters, 12 winners at 23% strike rate and 40% POT. CHEVAL DE VAGA was desperately unlucky in the Ascot Mile. He looked to be bolting leader’s back but unfortunately with William Pike in the breeze there was no chance of him ever seeing daylight. Textbook competitive riding from Pike and was the difference for Cheval De Vaga’s winning chances. WEAPONSON has won his last two in style when allowed to dictate from the top. This is deeper. MULTINATIONAL has a tough map. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – RIVER RUBICON WIN RACE 4 HAMMARMILL showed last start that she measures up in 66+ company. Back into a restricted fillies & mares race with a strong tempo (Strathmore Rose, Sockoff and Lipstick Flickers) gives her the chance to settle rearward and then pull to the outside and unleash her powerful turn of foot. She’ll have to concede a head start to Stellar Vista but she’s more than capable with the right run. STELLAR VISTA beat her home first-up and will settle in front of her second-up. Impossible to knock, loved her return to racing. BLOW ME OUT also comes through that Halatorion form line and didn’t get much room to move at stages in the home straight. DREAM TO ME brings a level of intrigue. Talented country mare. Numbers: 7 – 4 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet – HAMMARMILL EACHWAY RACE 5 This is a ripping race. High speed through Spin The Knife, Metallon, Capital Flight and Bopping Blue, talented chasing brigade of Moi Choux, Beads, Premium Choice and Eeyore Wayz, plus the proven 1000m straight form of Material Witness. Going to side up with MOI CHOUX who goes round an eachway price and gets a bit of weight relief after the Watson claim. Is the kind of horse who travels strongly in the run and is drawn the ‘right’ side of the Pinjarra straight. SPIN THE KNIFE has his first start for a noted first-up yard. Trialled super and is very talented. PREMIUM CHOICE is a versatile animal who should have no problems handling straight course racing. CAPITAL FLIGHT gets back down to 54kg after the claim for Luke Campbell. Another who can park and ride the speed. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet – MOI CHOUX EACHWAY RACE 6 Three-year-olds Prawns Eleven, Valsassina, Capo Veloce and Super Session are likely to take up ~90% of the market in this 1200m 60+ Graduation. VALSASSINA was a dominant fresh winner, backed it up with an emphatic 3 year old Plate win and then was forced to cover plenty of additional ground in the WA Breeder’s Classic, a race which was turned into a popular form reference and betting race. Can sit close handy here and enjoy a soft run, nice race for her. PRAWNS ELEVEN is all X-Factor. He’s got huge raw ability and is yet to put it all together. Finished only 1.7L off My Bella Mae and conceded her 2.5kg. Speaks for itself. CAPO VELOCE ran home nicely behind Wild Belle and Malkar Pindari last start. SUPER SESSION has burst onto the scene. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 5 – 11 Suggested Bet – VALSASSINA WIN RACE 7 STREET PARADE was 6 weeks between runs when carrying 59kg over 1100m at Ascot. Was allowed to roll into the corner and only folded up late when third to subsequent winners My Bella Mae and Cut The Talk. Drops down to 56.5kg at SWP, gains the services of a senior rider and is drawn a gate to take up a prominent position in running. Slightly suspect at the end of 1200m but is one of the class runners in what is a thin race. MAN CRUSH split Amelia’s Jewel and Snowdome at 1200m in the Belgravia Stakes over the Carnival. Reproduces that run and he takes serious catching. He should get across to the breeze (eventually). MALKAR PINDARI is a still a maiden filly but she’s always shown above average ability. Dangerous late off a soft run. DIVINE INANNA is no star but she’s tough and will keep chasing. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 9 – 8 Suggested Bet – STREET PARADE WIN RACE 8 A LOT OF GOOD MEN vs SUPER SMINK vs ODINAKA is how many will be looking at this race and it’s hard to argue with that. A LOT OF GOOD MEN is two from two this preparation, is racing like 1200m will be his pet distance and drops 1.5kg on his last start victory at SWP to meet all of his beaten rivals better at the weights. He’s drawn to settle midfield with cover and once he hits top gear, he’s a beast. Paul Harvey is the perfect hoop for a Colt like him and he looks the testing material. SUPER SMINK could not have been more impressive on debut. She can hold a position from her much more favourable alley and has a turn of foot which should see her winning plenty of races. ODINAKA is still working it all out but he’s got a bit of class about him and point to point speed. LEADING TADDY is a forgotten horse. Was a $10 chance last start off a 6 week freshen. Goes round 50-1+ here from the inside gate. Numbers: 1 – 9 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – A LOT OF GOOD MEN WIN Same Race Multi – A Lot Of Good Men (Top 3) + Super Smink (Top 3) RACE 9 WESTRIVER MIRACLE looks very well placed by Dan & Ben Pearce. Has contested back to back 84+ feature races this preparation and finished 3L and 2L off The Velvet Queen and Big Screen. Drops into a 66+, is a proven weight carrier as a winner with 59.5kg and having placed with 61kg and is drawn to enjoy the right run. Goes round eachway and has only missed the money once in his eight starts for the stable. Ticks plenty of boxes. ARCADIA GRACE is only coming out of a 60+ Graduation win but she’s drawn the inside gate and it’s #pikeinthelast. She’ll have a loyal following. ALLMAMONEY has returned in excellent order. If she gets the splits at the right time she’ll be coming home hard. BE OPTIMISTIC is a nice mare capable of working her way through the grades. Numbers: 1 – 14 – 13 – 5 Suggested Bet – WESTRIVER MIRACLE EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 3,4,5,11 1,2,9 1,2,9 1,4,5,13,14 Market Market
