Scott Embry’s Saturday Kalgoorlie Preview Posted on September 30, 2022September 30, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 FILTHY HABITS comes back from 1400m to 1200m and looks like settling in a prominent position. Shown ability in two runs to date and should position in front of the short priced favourite. Goes around eachway and Luke Fernie normally produces a couple of winners across the Race Round. Set a really strong pace last start (4L faster than average) and gave a decent kick on straightening. Nice race for him. PLAYHOUSE PATRON has the 2 year old feature form to his name. Fifth behind Left The Building, Street Parade and Kosta’s Crown in a Perth Stakes reads up particularly well for a Kalgoorlie maiden. Shades off and was winding up nicely late in his trial win. STARCHIENNE might need further but the pace on helps her cause. HIDDEN RUBY hasn’t had any luck. Numbers: 10 – 3 – 5 – 11 Suggested Bet – FILTHY HABITS EACHWAY Same Race Multi – Filthy Habits (Top 3) + Playhouse Patron (Top 2) RACE 2 PRETTY FRIAR is two from two at the Kalgoorlie 1760. This is not an overly strong race and she has had two runs to prepare her for this assignment. First-up finished fifth behind Ginger Green and Alsephina and then backed it up with a sixth behind Position Of Power, Tri For Us and Catalpa. Should be primed third-up and gets a lovely run from the draw. HENCHARD looks the testing material. Scratched from the 1600 to save for the 1760 and hit the line full of running second-up. Interesting to note that CJP has jumped off in favour of Feuding but regardless he’ll jump favourite. FEUDING is coming through the grades nicely. Ticked every box since arriving in Kalgoorlie. MY SQUEEZE LOUISE either leads or box seats. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – PRETTY FRIAR EACHWAY RACE 3 ALL IN RED ran well enough first-up behind Advanced to suggest that second-up, back in grade she could run a big race. Shaun O’Donnell is riding particularly well at the minute and on her day she’s a more than capable mare. Should enjoy a nice run midfield with cover and was a good winner of an 1800m 0MWLY at Ascot when last in work. SHOOT UR SHOT has been a great acquisition for Helen Harding’s yard. Last start winner of the Tattersals Cup and is versatile. The only minor query is being 6 weeks between runs at a mile. MEGAZONE put in a ripper fresh and can stalk the speed. BEAUCOUNT can roll the top and is always capable of giving cheek. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – ALL IN RED EACHWAY RACE 4 ARNIE’S BOY and HE’S A LUCKY LAD met last week in the 2000m race at Belmont Park behind Axel ‘R’ Eight. They both back up off 7 days and they are clearly the class runners of the field. ARNIE’S BOY is deep into a preparation and probably a query at the end of 2200m but this looks like it will be a slowly run affair and Shaun McGruddy can have him sitting just behind the speed enjoying a soft run. HE’S A LUCKY LAD will need to concede him a head start but he’s more than capable of turning the tables from last week. THERE’S A CHANCE is on trial at the staying trips but Kyra Yuill could well kick through and elect to hold them out and dictate. IT’S A LANCE could be on a 48 hour back-up from Hannans Day. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – ARNIE’S BOY WIN RACE 5 LOVE DRUNK BABY gets his chance to lead and win. Has been taking a sit recently from awkward barriers but with only Sneaky Fox likely to contest for the front he can either kick through or sit leader’s back. Either way he should enjoy a favourable passage in running and with a 1kg weight swing and a better run can turn the tables on the favourite Prize Pursuit from their last start encounter. PRIZE PURSUIT was winning a long way out at his most recent. Should get a similar run in transit and looks hard to beat. HALATORION hasn’t fired a shot on the wet tracks. Could be an improver in this. SNEAKY FOX has form around Prize Pursuit. Capable on his day. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 2 – 10 Suggested Bet – LOVE DRUNK BABY EACHWAY RACE 6 EXCELLENT DREAM looks to have found an Excellent Race. Is an acceptor for Thursday’s Hannans Handicap so clearly will be a wait and see as to whether or not Luke Fernie elects to back him up off the two days but if he does start here he looks extremely well placed. Drawn a gate, claim brings him down to a winnable weight and maps to enjoy a gun run. Classy on his day. YEAH DARDY’s best is probably behind him, however, Justine Erkelens has picked out a great race for him. Only carries 0.5kg more than he did at WFA in the Idyllic Prince when beaten 4L by Resortman. JERICHO MISSILE ran third at Listed Level in the Newmarket. Reproduces that run and is hard to beat. DOUBLE SPICE is racing below his best. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet – EXCELLENT DREAM WIN RACE 7 SPIRITED SESSION looks like he will enjoy a great run in a race full of speed. Expecting that Protected Action, Choice Bid, Kia Ora Star and Double Jeopardy all to fire forward in a spirited early speed battle. If the emergencies don’t gain a start he could come into barrier 5 and from there he can stalk the speed and present at the top of the straight. Did it tough with 60.5kg last start and kept coming. FALSE STATEMENT was a winner on Kal Cup Day last year and the form around Cold Shizzle, Multinational and Mercanto measures up in this. Did finish second to Startrade in this grade back in June. PIXIE CHIX went awfully close to gunning down State Of Power last start. Clearly come back to racing well. REIGN OF FIRE can sit back and have last crack at them. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet – SPIRITED SESSION EACHWAY RACE 8 GENERAL GRANT had a set back leading into the Boulder Cup and was a scratching on race day. He was extremely popular in early betting for that meeting and provided SJ Miller has been able to keep him together off a forced 28 day spacing then he looks the one in the 2022 XXXX-Kalgoorlie Cup. There is a lack of speed (again) in this race and expecting that Brad Parnham will pull the trigger and put him into the race to avoid being caught up in a sit and sprint. Has a 5kg pull on Stafford’s Lad and 3kg on No Apology which could be telling late. NO APOLOGY was purchased by Brandon Fiore (fiancé of Lucy Warwick) for $47,500 in the days leading into the Boulder Cup. By my maths if No Apology runs second in the Kal Cup he’s in front. Well played Sir. TELLEM WE’RE COMIN and STAFFORD’S LAD will both be doing their best late. Numbers: 9 – 4 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – GENERAL GRANT WIN RACE 9 NO CHANGE is always a hard horse to run down. He can park himself up over the top of the speed, stay out of trouble and with the 2kg claim for Keshaw Dhurun looks both well placed and well weighted. Always goes round an eachway price and always runs an eachway race. GREEN AND SHADY can be a hard horse to catch but his last start effort behind Advanced in a 66+ was excellent. His biggest issue will be staying out of trouble because if he’s slowly away at Kalgoorlie in a capacity line-up he might find himself in a world of hurt and traffic. DUNBAR was excellent first-up. He just hates having his picture taken. HILTON has been a find for Nicholas Thomas and his win in the Coolgardie Sprint was arrogant. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – NO CHANGE EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,2,4 1,3,4,5,6,8,9,13,14 4,9 2,3,6,7 Market Market
