Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on May 6, 2021May 6, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 BERET gets her opportunity in the small field. Races outside the handicap but backs up off 7 days and has been attacking the line from impossible positions in running. Even if she settles last of the 6 she’ll be within striking distance. COCKNEY CREW won’t get a better chance than this. Three of his five opponents race outside the handicap and he is extremely well weighted after the 3kg claim for Bennett. 72+ winner taking on horses who are in this grade for the first time. NO APOLOGY seems to relish rain affected tracks and sneaks in perfectly on the minimum. NOTORIOUS ONE is the kind of horse you will need patience and forgiveness to follow. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – BERET WIN RACE 2 BORN TO TRY has been given a freshen up since her impressive first attempt at a staying trip when pulling late ground off Reliable Star and running straight past Marocchino. She is yet to run a bad race since joining Lindsey Smith and this is an extremely thin Westspeed Platinum race. Should go close. FIERY WATER didn’t fire a solitary shot last week. Beaten 7.5L in an uncharacteristic shocker. He can bounce back. PETITE LA FEMME is a 19 start maiden but has run some cracking races in 58+ grade recently, including an eye catcher last weekend. AL DI LA has about 30L between his best and worst. Depends which one turns up. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet – BORN TO TRY WIN RACE 3 FLYING MISSILE got the better of Ultimate Command, Astrape and Ain’t No Other Man last start. Concedes them only 1kg at set weights and penalties conditions making her very hard to beat again. Her run in the Karrakatta Plate was huge when doing all the work and fighting on into fifth behind Ex Sport Man, Liwa and Pat’s Got Sass. Nearly a carbon copy of her last start map wise. ULTIMATE COMMAND gets the kilo weight swing and again jumps and runs. They smashed the clock last start and she’s the logical danger. WRITTEN EXCEED comes from a weaker race, a 2 year old mid-week maiden but won in style. AIN’T NO OTHER MAN will slot in and chase hard. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – FLYING MISSILE WIN RACE 4 PHANTA looks a live chance in a wide open 3 year old handicap. Resumed with a strong second to She’s Got To You at 1400m, a race which has already produced an impressive subsequent winner in Divine Pair. Drawn underneath both First Law and Chantorque so Lucy Warwick can position him up close handy and from there he should run a race. CHANTORQUE has blinkers on first time and a senior rider engaged. Proved on a wet track and undeniably classy. Not a big filly, will the weight stop her? SHEZA CHALMER was completely unsuited first-up in a sit, sprint affair controlled from the front. HOW’S THE SERENITY didn’t seem to handle 59kg last start. Previous effort strong. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – PHANTA EACHWAY RACE 5 DRINKWHATYOULIKE gets some significant weight swings on main rivals with the engagement of Laqdar Ramoly and his 2kg claim: 4kg swing on Panzdown, 1.5kg swings on City Circle and Comes a Time. Maps ideally, drawn more favourably than last start and is versatile. Ticks plenty of boxes. PANZDOWN dominated moderate opposition first-up and then showed he’ll make a genuine Saturday sprinter last start when accelerating through the gaps when they appeared. Was pulling away from them on the line. CITY CIRLE again backs up off 7 days and gets the gun run. JAG THE JOKER a proven wet tracker on the back-up. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 3 – 9 Suggested Bet – DRINKWHATYOULIKE WIN RACE 6 ANGELIC MISS could not have been more impressive first-up when settling rearward chasing an exceptionally strong speed and then having to make a sustained searching run from a long way out. In that race Some Sort ran the first 600m quicker than Clairvoyance in the Marjorie Charleson. Looks ready to go through the grades. MOSCHARD is brilliantly placed back into a 66+. Will have to do it tough again but if three deep and down the centre is the place to be it brings him into it. ISLAND CHARM gets big weight relief taking on the older horses. Her 3 year old handicap form alongside Iseered Iseered, Gemma’s Son and Vadette De Star is good enough. MEGAZONE first-up no trial a watch. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 11 – 5 Suggested Bet – ANGELIC MISS WIN RACE 7 COME PLAY WITH ME showed in the Diggers Cup that he is more than capable of carrying the weight and making a run at them with the right passage. Drawn to get a lovely cart up midfield with cover and if there’s a chink in the armour of Marocchino then he’s the one that can pounce. Group 1 winner who loves the sting out of the ground. MAROCCHINO faced his toughest test to date at his most recent and came through it with flying colours. Rises another 2kg and gets out to a staying trip again but it’s hard to knock him. FINAL CHILL is racing outside his weight division but looks the kind of horse who could surprise them if it turns into a slog. TRAP FOR FOOLS is simply unsuited by the wet track. Spins the wheels badly. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet – COME PLAY WITH ME WIN RACE 8 KARIJINI AURORA couldn’t have done much more last week from the barrier and the way the race unfolded. First 800m 6L slower than average and she was sitting rearward in a building three and four deep line. By the time she had made any real ground the leaders were sprinting and she could do no more. Last 6 have been in higher grade than this, drawn a gate and on the back-up. This is her chance. MAGIC WILL REIGN really caught the eye at his return to racing with a strong L600. PICCOLA SIGNORA probably should have won last start. Only got out late and peeled off a blistering final furlong. SENTIMENTAL QUEEN toyed with limited opposition first-up. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 11 – 5 Suggested Bet – KARIJINI AURORA EACHWAY RACE 9 BILLY AIN’T SILLY continues his way through the grades and with the combination of the 3 year old allowance and the claim sneaks into a 72+ with 52.5kg as a m76 rater. Since the blinkers have gone on he is undefeated and he has been doing it at both ends in his races. Once challenged last start he dug deep and fought them off. Previous to that he was attacked in the middle stages and still let down powerfully. He is the kind of horse that you continue to follow until he gets beaten. TINSNIP couldn’t go with him two starts ago and meets him half a kilo worse at the weights. Lovely draw for him. CREATOR is in great form and Brad Parnham has options from the draw. BRUCE ALMIGHTY is flying but strikes another tricky draw. Numbers: 11 – 4 – 5 – 12 Suggested Bet – BILLY AIN’T SILLY WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,9,11 1,4 2,3,5,6,8,11 4,5,11 Market Market The Black Hearts are WA’s team in The Racing League – the world’s first horse racing league.
