Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on October 8, 2020October 11, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 LORD LONSDALE has his first start for Kieran McDonagh and his recent trial win was in solid time and looked dominant. His debut effort back in December was strong through the line and the form has held up with Endovanera, Smile for Me and Dark Mission all winners out of the race. Should roll to the top and prove hard to catch. First race back at Ascot, would be iconic if the first leader saluted. DARCELE and WEDNESDAY both come from the same maiden behind Devil’s Dust where both chased hard from unsuitable positions in running. TRADE FAIR EXPRESS is a perennial maiden but maps to settle right over the top of the speed. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – LORD LONSDALE WIN RACE 2 THE LADY IS A VAMP has had the customary Lou/Dion Luciani juvenile preparation with 400m jump outs. The first 400m jump out was solid behind Fatale Femme and then the most recent (on a soft6) was electric. Think she can hold up from the inside and give them something to chase on debut. Rail worth lengths to the inexperienced youngsters. FATALE FEMME will be all the rage in the market and rightfully so after winning both trials in style. Looks a read made professional. ROMMEL’S COMMAND looks an imposing type and will right up in the firing line. SALCHINO will need luck but Mike Santich finds a diamond in the rough every season. Numbers: 10 – 6 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – THE LADY IS A VAMP WIN RACE 3 BONNEVILLE BLACK is charging his way through the grades and has become a new horse since teaming up with Madi Derrick. With her 3kg claim he again gets in with absolutely no weight and this race does lack a genuine leader. He either takes it up or sits parked outside Brother’s Keeper and while this is his acid test, he is in super form. MACKENZIE BROOKE pulled herself into the ground last start. If she settles for Laqdar Ramoly she’ll be a sharp improver. Has a powerful turn of foot on her day. MOSSERATTI is knocking on the door. PADDY’S SHADOW was huge last start and loves Ascot. Numbers: 10 – 6 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – BONNEVILLE BLACK WIN RACE 4 TRULY GREAT has been trialling the house down but won’t get any favours in this map. There is very little genuine tempo and he is likely to be parked out the back last in the field of 10. Punter beware because Ascot is not typically a place you want to be sitting back off a slow tempo. Looks in for a big campaign but will have to overcome hurdles. ZERO DEMERITS beat him home last preparation and while he is on trial at 1600m he maps to get a lovely run. BLACK SHADOW is a month between runs and went back to trials. Can improve sharply after only 1 poor performance. RED HOT TIP went back first-up. No surprise to see him lead second-up. Numbers: 10 – 5 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet – TRULY GREAT WIN RACE 5 INSPIRATIONAL GIRL couldn’t have done anymore first-up when running the fastest last 1000, 800, 600, 400 & 200 of the race. Was fresh 8 weeks between runs and should only take improvement. Grant & Alana Williams put the Winkers on and Bob Peters horses seem to find lengths when they go on. Much like Truly Great will need a peach from Parnham from a tough draw but she is all class. WHY CHOOSE HER is in career best form. Her effort behind talented pair Celebrity Queen and Cliffs of Comfort last start was big. PATRISTIC was the beneficiary of a Kristy Bennett pearler last start. Likely to be right over the speed again. SPILLINOVA grew a leg last start when leading. Draws to adopt similar tactics. Numbers: 4 – 8 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – INSPIRATIONAL GIRL WIN RACE 6 TYCOON STORM maps to enjoy an identical run to last start. With Butterlea Lad and Peppijack likely to lock horns in front Brad Parnham can position her just in behind the speed. She is a proven winner, proven weight carrier and progressing through the grades nicely. Looks well placed and should nearly open eachway. BUTTERLEA LAD has turned a corner since Derrick went on and he’ll run them along. EXPRESSIONIST and DEVOTED STAR were both very good in defeat last start when neither got any real luck in running. Both capable of pinging late if they see daylight. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 4 – 9 Suggested Bet – TYCOON STORM EACHWAY RACE 7 CLAIRVOYANCE is undefeated after 3, GEMMA’S SON 5 from 6, CHARLETON EDDIE 4 from 5 and REIGN OF FIRE 2 from 2. They will hold a mortgage over the marketplace and you can understand why. CLAIRVOYANCE drawn gate 9 of 9 makes things interesting because Gemma’s Son and Charleton Eddie both have sufficient toe to make her work. Provided she gets to the breeze she should prove very hard to beat, especially if we’re expecting her to be targeted at a Winterbottom Stakes next month. CHARLETON EDDIE holds the key to the map. Trialled up as well as Indian Pacific and will make his presence felt. GEMMA’S SON was brilliant at his return. Ran the clock and did it with arrogance. He’s a weapon and Paul Harvey times his return to perfection. REIGN OF FIRE will be doing his best late but likely to find 1000m too sharp. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – CLAIRVOYANCE WIN RACE 8 CHANTORQUE could sneak under the radar in the capacity field. Drawn the inside gate and looks likely to kick through underneath Copper Fury and hold the lead. From there in a race with a lot of backmarkers she can give some serious cheek in front. REAL GRACE will be gunning her down late but will need everything to go her way from the outside gate in a capacity field over the 1000m scamper at Ascot. Highly talented filly but likely to have a lot of horse flesh in front of her. MISS FROST is dynamite fresh but in a similar vein to Real Grace will likely encounter some traffic. SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK showed a lot of ability in his first campaign and trailed well for his return. Numbers: 15 – 16 – 5 – 10 Suggested Bet – CHANTORQUE EACHWAY RACE 9 CLIFFS OF COMFORT is extraordinarily well placed by Dan & Ben Pearce. Last start he punched into a 50km/h hurricane when leading and was nabbed on the post by Celebrity Queen, beating home subsequent Hannans Handicap winner Money Matters. Drops from a 78+ back into a 66+ and if he gets across with This’ll Testya he’ll be awfully hard to hold out. NATUGHTY BY NATURE will settle a long way off the leaders and 1200m is far short of her preferred trip but she is a classy mare who will rattle home late. THIS’LL TESTYA had her colours lowered last start. Boom mare needs to bounce back. PULI can sit leader’s back and is a capable type. Numbers: 1 – 10 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – CLIFFS OF COMFORT EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 2,4,7,9,13 1,2,6 1,5,10,15,16 1,6,10 Market Market
