Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on March 19, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 MEDIA BARON is in such a rich vein of form that he looks capable of overcoming a step up in grade and a slowly run race. Was put on for him last week but he savaged the line and now Paul Harvey goes back on off the 7 days. Looks like making it four of his last five. THE BIG SHOW is no slouch and will settle over the top of the speed. Has his soundness issues but is a quality animal. PUSH TO PASS was able to get the better of Media Baron in the Esperance Cup and has no weight from the inside draw. TOUCH OF SILVER is yet to fire a shot this campaign but senior rider on is a huge plus for him. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – MEDIA BARON WIN RACE 2 BEE QUICK backs up off 7 days after having no luck at all last weekend. Previous effort strong behind Long Beach and Lipstick Flickers, she gets her chance here from gate 1. GATES OF BABYLON looks like finding the front fairly easily. Brett Pope’s yard was the victim of a virus and he has been back to trials and is 6 weeks between runs. Nothing wrong with his four runs in this preparation, always consistent. PLAYING MARIKA has 60kg to carry and maps to settle last and wide in the run but that could also be the place to be. FIRESALE another who could improve after a freshen. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – BEE QUICK WIN RACE 3 LAVERROD looked lengths superior to rivals first-up at 1000m and absolutely blew them to pieces. 1200m even more his go and this field looks no deeper than what he destroyed fresh. Would be an emotional moment if he was able to power away from them in the Vale George Daly handicap. CLIFFS OF COMFORT comes from a maiden straight into a Saturday race but won with authority on debut in good time. SPECIAL CHOICE drops back to 1200 and has had no luck at two runs in. COMES A TIME has returned to racing well. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – LAVERROD WIN RACE 4 CELEBRITY QUEEN just jumps off the page. First-up win was super off the back of a hot trial performance. She got back, weaved to the outside and let down with a breathtaking turn of foot. Second-up lost W.Pike and was never in the race. Ended up in a horrible position that even the Wizard would have struggled from. Maps three deep with cover in a fast run race. That’s Pike’s bread and butter. BEDOUIN BELLE is going very well and should settle in front of the fav. DE ANDES likely cops some pressure in the run but he is so consistent once he hits form. COSMIC EYES maps to do no work in the run. Numbers: 8 – 7 – 4 – 10 Suggested Bet – CELEBRITY QUEEN WIN RACE 5 GEMMA’S SON is 6 weeks between runs coming out of dominant display in the Pinjarra Magic Millions. From the gate Paul Harvey has options and there is no reason why he won’t take control of the speed himself. Can’t fault any of his three wins and at set wights and penalties conditions is thrown in. BROOKLYN PIER is a quality colt who looks capable of testing the favourite. MUDS TOO HARD ran a ripper on debut and arguably should have finished on the winner’s heels. NO SURRENDER looked a runner at trials. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – GEMMA’S SON WIN RACE 6 SOLAIA only comes from a Bunbury maiden but the win was dynamite. She won eased down and did it on raw ability and talent. From the gate Parnham can have her in an identical spot in running and she looks to have a tonne of ability. STARFIELD IMPACT is fool proof. She sat deep the trip when winning the Supremacy Stakes and still powered away from them. WATCH ME DANCE is likely to settle last in the run which makes things extremely tough but she is very unique in the sense that she is a juvenile who can accelerate off the back of a hot tempo and come with a sustained run. AMERICAN CHOICE was another who was completely luckless in the Supremacy. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – SOLAIA WIN RACE 7 PLATOON hit a real flat spot around the 400m mark when The Celt zipped around him but then was finishing full of running in the last 100m. He looks like settling last but the way the Ascot track has been playing of late (tired) there is nothing wrong with getting to the outside and making a run from the 600. TOM MELBOURNE maps to get the perfect run in transit and this looks a great race for him. TELLEM WE’RE COMIN is not showing the same turn of foot as last preparation but was better in the Bunbury Stakes. WRINKLY drops back sharply in trip and is tough as old boots. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – PLATOON WIN RACE 8 PYM’S ROYALE vs REGAL COUNSEL vs FRED DAG vs RED CAN MAN looks a mouth-watering clash on paper. Going to follow Mitchell Pateman in with his choice to ride REGAL COUNSEL ahead of Pym’s Royale. Huge first-up no trial with weight when marching deep. Should be able to settle midfield with cover and launch late. PYM’S ROYALE is a W.Pike horse if you’ve ever seen one. Three deep with cover and flying late. FRED DAG loomed the winner first-up and just peaked on the run. Should only improve for the outing. RED CAN MAN is a top notch 3 year old who was brave first-up when left a sitting duck to be gunned down. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – REGAL COUNSEL WIN RACE 9 PADDY’S SHADOW just needs an ounce of luck to join the three deep train with cover and she’ll take beating. Last three runs have all been equally as impressive and she looks like she is ready to roll through the Autumn/Winter staying ranks. INJECT THE VENOM was the replay watch in the same race when bolting behind tiring runners for a long time. SAXON SAXOFF caught the eye in the replay. He looks just about ready to run a cheeky race. NAVY BLUE was too bad to be true last start. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 12 Suggested Bet – PADDY’S SHADOW WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,2,3,4,9 1,2,3,5 1,3,5,6 1,2,4,5,12 Market Market
