Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on May 1, 2025May 2, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 HAIDA GWAII is a high speed 1000m filly. They’ll really burn here between Niccimota, Lucky I Am and Desert Whisper so expect that she’ll take a sit just behind that tempo and then be the first to present on straightening to attack them. Like that as a map for her. KAY TEE WHY made a real impression first-up when he charged over the top of them over 1000m to score an emphatic first-up victory. Second-up was sent out near equal favourite alongside talented 3 year olds Shmoov Moova and Elite Missile when third. Freshened, back to 1000m, drawn soft. Just 59kg concerns. NICCIMOTA and LUCKY I AM are both very speedy. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – HAIDA GWAII WIN RACE 2 MADAME MAGIC has been a hard mare to catch over the years but her trial win over 1000m at Belmont coupled with her first-up run in a 66+ 1200 behind a flying Nobellity suggest that she’s returned in great order. Hopefully she can hold a spot midfield from her favourable draw and give herself every chance in running. PLATINUM SHOT went under at odds on in Albany last start which doesn’t read up that well, until you consider that the winner Gift Of The Heart has now won three on the bounce in the region. Pike on too. FLAGSHIP is an unknown at 1400. BONDI PLUNGE always looms. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – MADAME MAGIC WIN RACE 3 FILTHY HABITS is just going from strength to strength. 18 months ago he was a Kalgoorlie battler learning his craft, now he’s a new-age Marocchino who just goes to another level when the pressure goes on and he finds another gear when challenged. He bolted in the Albany Cup with 59.5kg and now he’s in a luxurious position ratings wise where he can attack this race near the minimum. He could be a Perth Cup horse by 1 January 2026. IOWA gets out to his preferred distance range. CURRIMUNDI is the class runner but 61.5kg is a real ask. FAT ROY SLIM would love 10mm of rain on race day. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – FILTHY HABITS WIN Same Race Multi – Filthy Habits (Win) + Iowa (Top 3) + Currimundi (Top 4) Small field assembled for the Rogan Josh Stakes and emerging stayer Filthy Habits looks the one to beat. He won the Albany Cup by nearly 5L and now drops to 54.5kg. He can park up outside Iowa and then they’ll start sprinting from the 600. Filthy Habits Win, Iowa to hold on for Top 3 and Currimundi to track them through on the fence into Top 4. RACE 4 BLACK ORA could have run in the 3 year old 1000 with 59kg or instead lines up here in the 66+ against the older horses on the 54kg minimum. Adam Durrant has picked up the perfect race for her and from the draw she can stalk the speed. She’s got tactical speed to put herself into a position, she’s got change up speed when asked to go and she’s improving with every run. Like the filly. RICHANCO is a sharp sprinter resuming off a strong trial win. Looked more settled in his recent trial which is huge. KEEP ITA MYSTERY is always there abouts. ESPRIT GARCON trialled moderately (at best?). Numbers: 8 – 7 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – BLACK ORA WIN RACE 5 FILA MIA ran fifth on debut in the Gimcrack Stakes behind subsequent Karrakatta Plate winner Talkanco and Yes Queen. That’s ripper form dropping back into what is a field of maidens (plus Capitola) and she’s on the 54kg limit. PLAYIN’IT SWEET has won both of her barrier trials in impressive fashion. Yes, they’ve both only been 400m jump outs and yes, the most recent of them was now over 9 weeks ago but visually she’s been really sharp. BANNERED had excuses on debut and has trialled up super. GUARANTOR had blinkers on in his trial and powered away from them late. Numbers: 8 – 12 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – FILA MIA WIN RACE 6 HAMMARMILL was scratched from Thursday to save for this. Back in trip, blinkers on and coming out of arguably stronger company. Her last 1200m effort was 1.5L off Siberian Siren and considering she’s now won again, happy to follow through on that performance. SNIPPY WHICH missed way first-up over 1000m and that’s race over in those short course sprints at Ascot. Did a super job to get as close as she did in the finish and will relish an extra furlong. KELVIN and SKY DUKE can settle 1-2 in running and control the pace of the race from the top. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – HAMMARMILL EACHWAY RACE 7 REDBACK FLYER is an emerging 3 year old. Michael Lane said in an interview that the plan was to target a WATC Derby with him, however, after a set back early in the preparation the timing was all off and it came around too quickly for him. Silver lining is that he’s working his way through the grades against the older horses and this looks a winnable step to Saturday grade, especially with his two main rivals conceding him both weight and a headstart. AUDIO BOY and QUEEN OF JERUSALEM look to be those dangers. Both are racing well but both are drawn to settle worse than midfield. BAYHARA a watch. Numbers: 9 – 2 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – REDBACK FLYER WIN RACE 8 STORMCHASER may need the run first-up considering he hasn’t raced since October 2024 and then missed the Pinnacles Carnival with an issue, however, we’re getting an eachway price about a highly talented sprinter who should get the right run midfield. If Luke Fernie has him 80% fit he’ll be charging late. GOLDEN VALE gives 110% and tried her hardest to go with Toropa fresh. She’ll get another gun run and looks the one to beat. BLUE ROCKET doesn’t run a bad race but tends to need everything to go her way to win races. SUPERSESSION gets a long way back but showed his turn of foot again which was missing last prep. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – STORMCHASER EACHWAY RACE 9 STYLISH LORD is a regular on top selection eachway in this preview and again goes on top. He’s knocking on the door, he’s always $5+ and from the barrier Steve Parnham should give him every chance to record another win. He’s as consistent as they come. Can lead, can sit, either way he’ll be right there in the finish. CORRECT CHOICE was a dynamic winner two back and then just got shuffled back into an awkward position in running last start. Still not convinced barrier 2 does him any favours? SOSO LUCKY has now run six consecutive second placings. Going super but that’s beyond frustrating now. WAR MATTERS was a really encouraging run first-up. In for a good prep. Numbers: 3 – 8 – 9 – 10 Suggested Bet – STYLISH LORD EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,2,3,6,9 9 1,4,6,7,9 2,3,4,8,9,10 Market Market
