Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on February 1, 2024February 1, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 OLAJUWON was working to the line as well as anything behind Rewarding Artie last start over 2000m. That was his first attempt at the staying trip and he should take benefit from the outing. He’s drawn a better barrier here, doesn’t need to get quite as far off them in running and as we saw again on Wednesday through Soldanelle the Stefan Vahala team are sharp. DEMONSTRATION put in a shocker in a C1 two starts ago but either side of that he’s been excellent in maiden company. Can stay which is a big tick. DANEA ROCK has given every indication she’ll stay. KINELLINS LEGACY was plunged last start but had to do some work early and didn’t really settle. Shades off the right move. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 12 – 13 Suggested Bet – OLAJUWON WIN RACE 2 DEFERRED ran into Made In Mexico first-up in a maiden that’s expected to hold up as a form reference. With the added benefit of fitness and race experience she should be hard to hold out at her second career outing. Looks a filly with upside and as the half-sister to Magnificent Andy she’s likely worth following. MAGNACHINE also has a pedigree as the half-sister to Demolish and Flying Missile. She’s bursting to win a race and also comes through strong form reference races. Stuck on well last start behind Our Rocky Bay with Prince OF Santos winning well out of that event. PRINCESS IN RED is the half-sister to Dom To Shoot (feeling like an auctioneer at this point) and worked home well through traffic on debut. JUST FAMOUS has been solid in both outings so far. Numbers: 7 – 6 – 9 – 2 Suggested Bet – DEFERRED WIN RACE 3 MY HIDDEN UNIVERSE ran a great race on debut behind Vivid Dream and was immediately tipped out for a spell. Wore his race day ear muffs in a recent trial at Lark Hill and looked to cover the ground brilliantly when skipping right away to win in style and time. Likely settles in front of his main dangers and looks to have ability. SENSESSIONAL got back in a leader dominated 1100m scamper first-up. Did a great job to finish off into third only beaten 1L. If he can find the right back to follow he’s a big danger. ANTIQUE STAR beat him home at trials and looked good in doing so. Looks capable of going forward or back from the draw. CINCINNATI DUKE got to the line nicely in his most recent trial. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 11 – 6 Suggested Bet – MY HIDDEN UNIVERSE WIN RACE 4 GOLDEN VALE got punters excited on debut when winning by over 1.5L and was immediately tipped out for a spell to be aimed up at the Pinjarra Magic Millions (like the vast majority of this field). She was beaten in a recent 950m trial but by a super impressive debut winner in Glasow Lass who has only made the soft trial of Golden Vale even more encouraging. Nice filly back at the races. SINFUL LIVING has been given 5 weeks since her Perth Cup Day sprinting win. Comes back to 1100m and is a proven jump and run commodity. EARTHSTORM got people talking at the trials recently. Tricky draw but a raw talent. WOTUGOT savaged the line on debut and benefits greatly from race experience. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 10 – 6 Suggested Bet – GOLDEN VALE WIN RACE 5 PREMIUM GIRL only beat the older horses in a C1 last start but it was more about the manner in which she let rip on a track that so far hasn’t really allowed for that kind of victory. She’s drawn wide and she’ll get back but this line-up looks to have a decent moving line winding up into the race and the forecast for Saturday is a strong SW all day which should allow them to settle in the back half and rattle home late. Like the way she goes about it. DOCTOR JAY similarly is coming out of C1 company but he found the line really well. Lightly raced and has plenty of upside. KING’S PARADE ran well last week. Just needs some luck at stages from barrier 1. ODINAKA had blinkers attached last start and seemed to relish the step to a mile. Back to 1400m a slight query. Numbers: 9 – 5 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – PREMIUM GIRL EACHWAY RACE 6 WEAPONSON looks to get his best chance of the preparation in small select field. Looks fairly straight forward on paper: Big Screen rolls to the top, Cheval De Vaga allows him to do his thing and parks second in running, Corn Cob sneaks up into the box seat, Weaponson lobs 1×1 and No Apology/Currimundi sit back and watch the race unfold. From 1×1 with the two speed horses in front of him he’ll get a lovely flow into the race and while he’s racing below his best from last preparation he’s also had a few excuses in recent assignments. Looks the big improver. CURRIMUNDI just found the 1500m a touch too short last start but was the eye catching run in defeat. Out to a mile is perfect for him. BIG SCREEN and CHEVAL DE VAGA will take care of the speed and they’re both tough nuts to crack. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – WEAPONSON WIN Same Race Multi – Currimundi (Top 3) + Weaponson (Top 3) Considering this is a field size of only 6 we’ll look to the Same Race Multi to try and squeeze some value out. Currimundi is racing like the mile is exactly what he wants and was climbing over them late last start in the Celebration Of Life Trophy. Weaponson gains the services of Chris Parnham and can stalk the speed behind Big Screen and Cheval De Vaga who will both look to roll along. Hoping one of those two fades late ensuring that Currimundi and Weaponson finish in the money. RACE 7 SWEAR TO GOD was back to his best last start when ridden for pure speed by apprentice Cassey Martinian. He got conditions to suit – Pinjarra was a leader’s paradise at that particular meeting, however, with Snippy Which coming out and winning a 3 year old 1200 last Saturday to frank the form and the placement into an evenly graded Westspeed Platinum he looks a great chance of going back to back. Doesn’t need to lead to win and that’s a great versatility for a race with plenty of other speed. VAMPI AT PLAY is suited in these races and with the speed on barrier 1 should be no issue for her. Knocking on the door. SHAKA ZULU is lightly raced and his recent trial was really encouraging. More than capable. INDIE RULER won well fresh and looks to have come back better than ever. Numbers: 4 – 10 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – SWEAR TO GOD WIN RACE 8 COMIC HERO was the run of the meeting at his most recent outing. He settled at the rear of the field from a wide barrier, he had nothing really taking him into the race, he came out deep and was speared off the corner and by the time he balanced the leading brigade were off and gone. Thought he did a massive job to get within half a length of the winner and the conditions on Saturday should be a lot more conducive to his racing pattern. Nice race for him on his way to bigger and better things. MADAME MAGIC comes up sharply in grade after going under in a C3 at the provincials but Antique Miss has won again since and she drops in weight and gets a senior rider on. Tick, tick. PATRON OF KINGS is undefeated after three. Ascot is a different kettle of fish to Belmont but he’s got a massive motor. UNCLE GERARD is bursting to win a race. Numbers: 7 – 8 – 4 – 10 Suggested Bet – COMIC HERO WIN RACE 9 ALLMAMONEY has not been an easy mare to catch in recent times but thought she showed enough last start to suggest that up to 1800m she would be a live eachway hope. She was supported at odds in betting and didn’t really get a crack at them in the home straight when looking like she had something to offer. Wide open race with many chances. ALASKAN steps straight from a maiden into a 60+ Graduation which is a big ask but he drops 2.5kg, gets out to what looks an even more suitable distance at 1800m and does seem to have more upside than many of his rivals. SPEAK TO ME is on the second 7 day back-up after again running well. Don’t think he was overly well suited in a sit and sprint affair (first 1200m run 16L slower than average). KIA ORA JEWEL is flying and should get more suitable conditions. Numbers: 6 – 11 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet – ALLMAMONEY EACHWAY RACE 10 CAPTAIN PLUTO was backed as if unbeatable last start and things looked ugly at the 600 when he got shuffled further and further back into the field in a muddling run race. The overall race time was 11L slower than 66+ average so it’s hard to believe that the winner has burst through from 3 back the fence to score considering the sectionals. He’s probably far better suited here drawing barrier 12 / 13 than he was last start in barrier 1. Capable of working his way through the grades. MANAVENDRA announced himself as a country cups contender last weekend with a big win. They turned the speed on for him and he was left last man standing and powered clear. Winner off 7 days previously too. BEATS OF WAR has toyed with them at his last two. He measures up. I LOVE YOUR SMILE can bounce back. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – CAPTAIN PLUTO WIN RACE 11 RED FIFTY THREE was back to his best last preparation and trialled the house down at Lark Hill recently. He lead them, ran time and extended away for an effortless win. Scary part is he’s as good chasing as he is leading. Can be ridden to conditions and looks like he’s come back just as well as when he went to the paddock having won three of six in the campaign. HARMIKA reunites with CJP and that can’t be underestimated. Can be forgiven when sitting close handy in a moderately run race. Back to 1200, CJP back aboard, conditions likely to suit those off-speed – plenty to like. PREMIUM CHOICE and CASH AWAY went to the line locked together first-up over 1000 and are both in for big campaigns. Numbers: 4 – 10 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – RED FIFTY THREE WIN RACE 12 FLURO NEURO was huge last start when settling at the rear of the field and rattling home into fifth. They’ve clearly worked out how to ride him to get the best out of him and as punters we’ll need to be patient and simply back him on days where they should be making ground. With the sea breeze forecast for Saturday they should be able to swoop down the centre and with this being race 12 on a mammoth program you could even wait until race day to sell yourself on the ability to make ground. He’s flying. BRAVE VENTURE was a much better run than it reads last start in a hot field that contained Esprit Garcon/Sunny Honey/Trade War/Duchess Of Gossip. Pontiff back on is a big pointer. FLASH MAX wasn’t at his brilliant best fresh. BLAZING TYCOON is racing well. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 10 – 4 Suggested Bet – FLURO NEURO WIN Quaddie (Race 9 – 12) 1,2,6,9,11 2,3,6 2,3,4,10,11 1,7 Market Market
