Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on March 23, 2023March 23, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 NEVER THE TWAIN has shown natural ability in all of her four trials. Has won a pair of 1000m trials and a 400m jump out so far and prolific 2 year old trainers Sean & Jake Casey call on William Pike’s services for her debut. Looks likely to bounce out of the gates and settle in a prominent position throughout and this is a winnable assignment for her on debut. WILEY GIRL chased hard on debut behind a very sharp filly in Krysanova. Can kick through to lead or take up a stalking position and with race experience she goes very close. ZIPAWAY backs up off 7 days and drops out of the Supremacy Stakes. He’s far better suited over 1200m than he has been over 1000m in his two impressive runs to date. STOLEN VALOUR has trialled nicely. Numbers: 9 – 5 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – NEVER THE TWAIN WIN RACE 2 WUNDERKIND, CYWER and MYSTICAL MAN went to the line locked together last start at 1400m and meet again a fortnight later over an additional 100m. WUNDERKIND has only 52kg on her back, is drawn to settle in a near identical position in running and is always going around an eachway price. She’s knocking on the door and Luke Campbell is riding really well. She’ll give her usual honest showing. CYWER was put into the race last start and left in front a long way from home. Only won by a small margin but thought the effort to fight them off was brave. She’s a winner and she’ll enjoy a soft run. MYSTICAL MAN is an awkward moving animal but he’s flying since returning. Unsuccessfully protest against first and second last start and gets his chance to turn the tables. SESSIONS PEAK is suited in this grade. Numbers: 12 – 2 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – WUNDERKIND EACHWAY RACE 3 SNOWDOME is a high class 3-year-old. First-up last preparation he sat three deep throughout over 1000m in the Classic and was too strong. Second-up he finished a narrow third behind Amelia’s Jewel and Man Crush (meets him 1.5kg better at the weights) in the Belgravia Stakes and then protest after copping an inadvertent whip across nose in the concluding stages. From there he raced without much luck in the Fairetha Stakes and WA Guineas. Loved his trial, will park over the speed and is always hard to run down fresh. TADWEER is gunning for four straight wins. He’s showing a big turn of foot at the minute and the form around him is holding up brilliantly. Ran straight past subsequent Rock Magic Stakes winner Acromantula two starts ago. Hard to fault. WESTERN KNIGHT comes back to 1200m. He’ll need to be sharp to win this. SPIN THE KNIFE next best. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – SNOWDOME WIN RACE 4 BE OPTIMSITIC has been a model of consistency this preparation. Won a 60+ 1400m event four starts ago and has since run second to Bragwell, third to Birdieagle and subsequent 72+ winner Weaponson and most recently fourth in a 72+ behind Big Bada Boom, Bragwell and Eeyore Wayz. Two of those three gallopers progress to the Listed Grandstand Cup and Be Optimistic drops back into a 66+. Maps well, runs for Holly Watson and continues to hold form. MAGNIFICENT ANDY was the subject of strong betting support last start and went down fighting. He copped a few decent bumps in the middle stages and lumped 59kg from the breeze. Ready to win. MAJOR MAX is a lightly raced and progressive 3 year old. He measures up here. BROOKLYN PIER goes well fresh, trialled nicely without shades and is well weighted after the claim. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – BE OPTIMISTIC WIN RACE 5 KOSTA’S CROWN and COBBANCO are both horses capable of winning better races than this 60+ Graduation. KOSTA’S CROWN has always been a horse who has flashed upside and ability, but hasn’t been able to string wins together. Hard to ignore his effortless trial win over Rumour Says and he maps to enjoy a gun run behind the speed. Looks a lovely race for him on paper. COBBANCO trialled same day and went considerably quicker. If he had drawn a barrier, he’d be the clear on top selection. Fresh last campaign he charged home over 1000m to finish less than half a length off Beads. Huge respect. DESERT VIXEN looked like she had the Westspeed Platinum Final wrapped up before Pikey did Pikey things on Here’s Dreaming. REBELZONE gets the cover she requires from the inside. Numbers: 7 – 6 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – KOSTA’S CROWN WIN RACE 6 LAST OF THE LINE was set a task first-up when drawn barrier 10 of 11 in a muddlingly run race. Thought he did a reasonable job to finish within 2.5L and second-up he usually takes a big step forward. From a far more suitable alley he can position closer and with the addition of Cheval De Vaga and Big Bada Boom to the field they’ll get along at a far more genuine gallop. Nice race for him. EM TEE AYE had to cover a stack of additional ground first-up in the Bunbury Stakes. He’s drawn to enjoy the run of the race and he’s perfectly suited in the weight scale. CREATOR ended up in a horrible position the way the Bunbury Stakes was run. Big forgive. EEYORE WAYZ drops 7kg off a big effort to Big Bada Boom. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 7 – 8 Suggested Bet – LAST OF THE LINE EACHWAY RACE 7 DEMOLISH was enormous in the JC Roberts. The first 1200m was run 15L faster than average when Big Red Hawk got rolling and he was the horse chasing the speed and towing the rest of the field to the leader. Even if you’re not a follower of sectional times, he went down half a length, Big Red Hawk was beaten 20L. Has to tick the 2200m box but he’s arguably been the run of the race in the Lex Piper and the JC Roberts. Deserves a bit of luck to go his way. ANOTHER CHINO comes from back to back 1800m races where the leaders went silly in the early and middle stages. He’s been last man standing on both occasions which is a great indication he’ll stay. If they put the speed on for him again he’ll be charging over them late. PLAYHOUSE PATRON runs his races in patches. Always finishing off well late. AXEMAN’S JAZZ is building. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 9 Suggested Bet – DEMOLISH WIN RACE 8 SHE’S FIT was so impressive in the Natasha Stakes. Admittedly she was in the right place, three deep with cover able to make her move exactly when she wanted too, but she also clocked the fastest L1200, 1000, 800, 600, 400 & 200 in winning. The entire field has to concede 4kg to Admiration Express at Set Weights but she’s ticked the stayers box and in the Oaks that’s the most important factor. ADMIRATION EXPRESS was visibly unsuited to leading last start. They’ll come out negative and look desperately for cover. If she settles it’s game on, if she doesn’t it’s game over. LINDEN LADY has been caught up in behind tiring horses her last two. Drawn wide might be a blessing. MEGAMI has been a marvel for Ike Racing. She’s as tough as they come. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – SHE’S FIT WIN Same Race Multi – She’s Fit (Top 2) + Megami (Top 4) + Linden Lady (Top 4) RACE 9 FLOWER IN THE WIND scratched from Thursday to save for this. She’s come back to racing in great order, she carried 59kg to victory last start and gets both weight relief and an inside barrier to enjoy a soft run midfield with cover. She has a 5kg pull on the favourite, goes round eachway and the way she’s racing she’s looking for this trip. Think she’s a genuine threat in the last. SOVIET SPY has turned into a winner since William Pike’s engagement. Looking for four on the bounce and should go very close to achieving it too. OFF WEGO was 2 months between runs into the Esperance Cup and did all the work. Huge effort. ARNIE’S BOY is racing well. Numbers: 12 – 1 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – FLOWER IN THE WIND EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,2,6,7,8 1,3,4,9 1,2,3,5 1,5,12 Market Market
