Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on February 10, 2023March 10, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 AUSPICIOUS is a little speed machine on debut over the 1000m. She won a 400m jump out as an early runner breaking 24 seconds and winning by almost 16 lengths. Didn’t make it to the races and headed to the paddock before having a 950m trial at Lark Hill where she kicked clear to win by almost 3L. That 950m effort was enough to suggest that she was capable of burning across on debut and holding on late. ODINAKA was the on top selection on debut off the back of two solid trial hit-outs. Was well supported late in betting and turned into a horror show for punters, connections, trainer and hoop. Never saw daylight at any stage. Is yet to jump cleanly so the inside draw could be ugly again. WARRALEA LASS and BONNY ROCK come through the same trial and both look to have ability. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 13 – 9 Suggested Bet – AUSPICIOUS WIN RACE 2 AIN’T NO OTHER MAN gets one last chance to shake the ‘nonny’ tag that he has picked up over the last 12 months. Going back through his form he has finished second to Sniparoochy (subsequent Listed winner), Karli’s Karma (subsequent Group 3 placed) and Let’s Galahvant (subsequent Listed winner). Last start he contested a 72+ when third behind Warm ‘n’ Fuzzy and subsequent Breeder’s Classic winner All The King’s Men. He deserves one and this looks very winnable for him. BORN TO TALK seems to grow a leg off the quick back-up and is drawn to get another gun run. LEICA JAGUAR showed something last weekend. DANCE COCKEY is always up for the fight. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – AIN’T NO OTHER MAN WIN RACE 3 PLANET CASH pulled out some sort of run in the WA Breeder’s Classic at Pinjarra last start. Settled near last on the inside and then took the majority of the home straight to navigate a path laterally into clear running before flashing home into fourth late behind All The King’s Men, Feels Playful and Gage Roads, running past Saintorio in the process. If he reproduces that run from the more suitable barrier in a small field, he’ll be hard to hold out. REBELZONE was a late scratching on 29 January at Pinjarra after a mishap in the stalls. Her previous run behind Saloon Bar was enormous when three deep throughout. THOROGOOD has won three from four this preparation and Be Optimistic came through his last start form race. MINUS LOOKS continued his excellent form with a gritty win this track and distance last start. Numbers: 7 – 3 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – PLANET CASH WIN RACE 4 CASINO SEVENTEEN beat home fellow rivals Reliable Star, Roman Flirt, Bold Success, Blazing Away, Sugar Cain and Piccola Signora last start by 2.5L+. Has to naturally concede decent weight swings to all of them but he’s a proven weight carrier as a 2x winner with 60kg and the way he won last start suggested he would eat up the extra distance. Paul Harvey jumps aboard and now that he has broken through in WA he can continue his winning ways. BOLD SUCCESS was the one who got closest to him last start and is even better suited out to the staying trips. No exposed speed in this so he should amble across into a prominent position. RELIABLE STAR will continue to improve into the campaign. ROMAN FLIRT is going better than numerical form suggests. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – CASINO SEVENTEEN WIN RACE 5 CREATOR is not a 1200m horse, however, this race has speed on speed on speed. Acromantula, Warm ‘n’ Fuzzy (both with apprentice riders), Kenyluck, Strathmore Rose – there’s four horses who in an ideal world would like to find the fence. Expecting the sparks to fly early. Thought the Creator trial without blinkers behind splitting Titan Blinders and Laced Up Heels was solid and if CJP can allow the speed to go and track up in behind them he might just get last crack at a double figure quote if they overcook it in front. Throw at the stumps. WARM ‘N’ FUZZY sat just off the speed in a similarly high-speed, high pressure 1200m two starts ago when holding off a luckless All The King’s Men late in the race. Similar profile. ACROMANTULA never got a chance to prove himself at 1200 in the Scenic Blast when How’s The Serenity stopped on top of him. GUNMETAL GREY will sit back and look to zap them late. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – CREATOR EACHWAY RACE 6 GAGE ROADS was far from convincing in his C1 win when carrying 59kg and grinding up the home straight, but he went to another level when the weight came off his back in the Breeder’s Classic when charging home into third behind Feels Playful, All The King’s Men and just ahead of Planet Cash (likely goes round favourite in R3). Only carries 1kg more in 60+ Graduation company than he did at Listed 3 year old level. He’ll have plenty of admirers. BIRDIEAGLE was a tough watch last start. $7.50 into $2.90 and never got an opportunity to push his way into the clear at any stage from leader’s back. Have to forgive and forget. CISCOJOE is ready to win fourth-up and has winkers attached for the first time. Drawn to get the run he needs midfield with cover. SPEEDY MISS is racing with great consistency. Numbers: 10 – 1 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – GAGE ROADS WIN RACE 7 ALL THE KING’S MEN was set a task in the Breeder’s Classic from a nightmare barrier. Was a program where the vast majority of races were dominated from on speed (7 races round the bend = 5 winners who settled in the first three in running!) and he defied the pattern with a sustained run from a long way back to grab Feels Playful in the shadows. Only rises half a kilo at SWP, is drawn the ideal barrier and can settle close handy to the speed. Looks a great chance for him to go back to back. FEELS PLAYFUL was brave. She shook off Saintorio and went down in the final stride. She’ll again roll across and park over the speed. ADMIRATION EXPRESS looks to have come back even better this time in. Both of her trials have been electric. Good luck beating her in the Ascot 1000 Guineas. SAINTORIO was below his best fresh. Can come on quickly, especially back at Ascot. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – ALL THE KING’S MEN WIN Same Race Multi – All The King’s Men (Top 2) + Feels Playful (Top 4) RACE 8 SNIPAROOCHY trialled the house down for her return to racing. She levelled up outside of sharp sprinter Metallon and gave him windburn over the 950 at Lark Hill skipping right away to win by 3L. From the inside draw she should have no worries leading these and from there Brad Parnham is in control of the race. When she was allowed to control and dictate in the Jungle Mist she kicked off the corner and put the race away very quickly. MY BELLA MAE is a winning machine and an exciting filly. This could well be a Quokka Slot trial for her. If she can zap them then she’ll be appealing as an Autumn 3-year-old in a WFA feature. Did what she had to do first-up in an 1100 where she carried 58kg and they went 5L faster than average. Brings her on nicely. PHANTA was a massive return in the Scenic Blast. Ominous signs for the Pinjarra Classic. HOT ZED is too good to be left out of conversations. Numbers: 3 – 8 – 9 – 1 Suggested Bet – SNIPAROOCHY WIN RACE 9 RUTHLESS TYCOON is back at the races after a 490 day lay off. He’s only been seen at the races three times in his life and they’ve all been exceptionally good runs. Always a risky proposition getting involved with horses who have had such a long time off but he’s drawn to park out three deep in the moving line and that’s not a bad spot over the 1000 on return. Finds a winnable race at his return. MANTELLI doesn’t win out of turn but seems to do his best on top of the ground over the Ascot 1000. Gets those conditions and the speed on to suit. TADWEER continues to tease. He’s racing well, just can’t quite break through. SENORITA DOROTEA put in a ripper at her return. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet – RUTHLESS TYCOON WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,4,10 1,2,3,7 3,8,9 1,2,3,4,6,9 Market Market
