Scott Embry’s Sunday Geraldton Preview Posted on February 10, 2023March 10, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 DESERT PETARD finished second behind stablemate Ihts Closing Inn in a 1400m maiden at Geraldton last start. In finishing second he beat home Butterflyrock and Augusta Red. He’s drawn a better gate, he carries less weight than them after the claim of Brayden Gaerth and he looks the testing material in what is a thin mile maiden. ROMMEL’S RETURN comes to a Country Maiden for the first time and Mack Hall has done a good job with him. The beaten margins are quite large but the runs haven’t been too bad. Keep safe. AUGUSTA RED can lead or box seat. DESTRUCTOR again steps out in trip. Racing well but query at the end of a mile. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – DESERT PETARD WIN RACE 2 JUPITER RISING pinches a race here and there each and every preparation. He needs to draw a gate where he can settle midfield with cover and he goes well in races where the bunch on straightening and he gets a chance to zap them late. Looks to get those conditions here and for a 70+ race there isn’t any standouts. No Corn Cob, no Minus Looks, no Eliminate. Gets another great chance. SANS LE SOU has gone under at odds on two of her last three and comes into this 36 days between runs and back to 1200m. Drops down to 56kg after the claim of ZJP and is never far from the winner. THE SINGING TIGER comes into this 7 weeks between runs and has bar plates going on. DARK PEAK has measured up in this grade previously. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – JUPITER RISING WIN RACE 3 QUEEN TIFFANY went around on the second line of betting on debut down the 1000m straight at Pinjarra Park. She never really travelled, never really looked comfortable and in the end finished a well beaten fourth. She drops to 51kg after the claim, she has gate speed to work across the face of the field and looks for the fence. If she can cross to the breeze then it’s game on. LET THEM ALL TALK comes back to 1200m and when you look at his form over the last couple of months the runs that stand out were both over 1300m. Could be a big positive back in trip. BOLD PROPHET continues to knock on the door with strong minors. ESCALATING was a solid trial and a late scratching last meeting. Numbers: 12 – 1 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – QUEEN TIFFANY WIN RACE 4 DESIGNATED DRINKER is taking all before him at the minute. Peta Edwards is riding him with great confidence and he’s a proven weight carrier and proven at the trip. 4 starts this preparation for 4 wins, 2 starts over 1900 for 2 wins and has beaten a number of horses in this field in the process. Impossible to knock the way he’s going. PROXY is almost ready to win another. The 11-year-old normally takes 7 or 8 runs to reach his peak. WESTOZI is emerging through the grades nicely. ART ADMIRER gets a 2kg weight swing for a nose defeat against Designated Drinker two starts ago. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – DESIGNATED DRINKER WIN RACE 5 STARCHIENNE is only coming out of a Mt Barker maiden and a C1 win at Belmont Park but she looks highly progressive and she’s ideally drawn to stalk the speed. Troy Turner jumping aboard is the icing on the cake and we’ll continue to follow her until she gives us a reason to jump off the bandwagon. STELLA FAIR was left in Geraldton by Adam Durrant after the meeting on 25 January and has joined the yard of Gordon Spowart. He calls on the 4kg claim and brings her weight down to 55.5kg and he drops her out of a 70+ and into a 58+. This looks an excellent race for her on paper. THREE SESSIONS was targeted in betting when resuming and was back to his best with a big win three deep the trip with 59.5kg. Steps out to 1400m for the first time, that’s the only query. SIGNIFICANT HERO is racing well. Numbers: 8 – 3 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – STARCHIENNE WIN RACE 6 ALBERT has been a regular in this preview and while he’s had bad luck on occasion he’s starting to wear thin on the patience. Huge run three starts ago behind Blue Cheyenne when plunged and luckless, rider lost her iron and he then bolted two starts ago when popular in betting and then again last start was $3.60 into $2.25 and got shuffled back behind tiring runners at stages. One more chance on top with Troy Turner going on. SECRET DEPLOY is a shadow of the horse who ran some of the fastest closing sections of the season at Ascot on return a couple of preparations ago. Amazing to think this debut 3 year old Plate winner would find himself in a Country C1 547 days later. NOT A WORD is racing consistently. CAN’T STOP NOW wasn’t a bad return without a trial. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 12 – 7 Suggested Bet – ALBERT WIN RACE 7 BEAUTY IN ME comes out of three C3 races in the metro area and actually drops weight out of most of those runs care of the ZJP claim. Drawn to get a gun run along the fence and if the gaps appear she’s got a short turn of acceleration to take full advantage of them. PURE DYNAMITE drops out of a 58+ when finishing a nose behind Three Sessions at his Graeme Hammarquist debut. 58+ back into a C2 and only rises 2kg. If he gets across from a tough gate, he goes close. MYSTIC LOVE and POP THE MOET both ran well last start in the Yes Miss Jane race this track and distance. Numbers: 2 – 11 – 5 – 9 Suggested Bet – BEAUTY IN ME WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,4 2,3,6,8 1,6,12 2,11 Market Market
