Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on December 22, 2022March 10, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 UNIVERSAL PLAYBOY showed huge ability and potential at trials but flopped badly both on debut and at his first start back this preparation. Taken to Northam for an easy kill he got the job done at $1.80 before being taken down the straight 1000 at Pinjarra when putting on a galloping exhibition to win by over 3L in sizzling time. Think he’ll hold up from the inside and gets first look at the fence. Starting to work out what racing is all about. SKY DUKE has hit form. Narrowly defeated by handy sprinter Lexington City before scoring a strong C1 victory. Went down fighting last week when breezing outside of Revitup and grinding her down before being swamped by Goddess of Giving. ART OF SABRAGE made an impression on debut and can measure up. HANG GLIDER next best. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – UNIVERSAL PLAYBOY WIN RACE 2 VALENCY gains the services of William Pike. It is a booking that is unlikely to be missed by punters. A get back, sit sprinter with the State’s best sit and sprint rider is always an attractive proposition. Last time she was in a Westspeed Platinum she finished third behind Oly’s Choice and Dadirra. Since then she finished 5L off Sniparoochy, Baby Paris & Express Time in a Fillies & Mares Listed feature and 2L off Trade War in a 60+ Graduation. Looks a great race for her. CURRIMUNDI showed last preparation that he’s more than capable of going through the grades. Maps to get a gun run behind a genuine speed. TINSNIP has to lump 61kg but can park behind the lead and get it soft. SEEABLE is a proven weight carrier who loves to roll out in front. Numbers: 8 – 4 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – VALENCY WIN RACE 3 PINK CARATS simply didn’t come up last preparation. Take away those two runs and his career record is 11 starts, 3 wins & 5 minors. He has trialled like he’s back to his best winning both 950m Lark Hill trials from the front and from previous preparations he’s shown an ability to sit off the speed and come home with a turn of foot. If he can park on the backs of Lexington City & On The Full he’ll be hard to hold out at an eachway price. CASH AWAY is a highly talented get back sprinter. Pike rides those horses better than anyone in WA and his effort behind Capital Flight last start was excellent. Proven off the 7 days and will be rattling home late. PREMIUM CHOICE has a dynamite turn of foot when he’s right. LEXINGTON CITY can cross or park outside of On The Full and Pat Carbery has chosen him ahead of Pink Carats by the looks. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – PINK CARATS EACHWAY RACE 4 BIG BADA BOOM looked home last start before Alsephina hit overdrive and gunned him down in the shadows of the post. With Alsephina going on to the Listed Starstruck and winning again it makes the form look strong and this race looks very winnable for him. There’s no real speed or pressure in this on paper so Big Bada Boom and Pike (if jumping cleanly) should be able to take up the running and get things entirely their own way. Hard to run down from there. ACTING GOD looms as the danger. He has put the writing on the wall at his last couple and now draws a gate to enjoy a nice midfield run with cover. SOLAIA has bounced back to form her last couple and can sit leader’s back on Big Bada Boom. CONSTANT DREAMING an improver. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 3 – 9 Suggested Bet – BIG BADA BOOM WIN RACE 5 HENRY THE AVIATOR is a progressive galloper who gets some weight relief coming into a 60+ Graduation. From the draw he can get an economical run midfield with cover and he has shown in his short career to date that he’s got a turn of acceleration that should see him progress through the grades. Goes round eachway in an open and even race and with even luck will be emerging late in the race. MY MARLAINA went into every Blackbook in the Country last start. Bombed it out of the gates and then peeled off a huge L800, 600, 400 & 200 to get within 3L of the winner. 61kg and 1500m are an ask but she’s got upside. REAL DANGER is probably almost on her mark but after the claim and from the draw she gets every chance. MAMA TEMBU is bursting to win a race. Her last 5 have been excellent. Numbers: 9 – 2 – 3 – 10 Suggested Bet – HENRY THE AVIATOR EACHWAY RACE 6 TIME SCALE was huge last start behind Burnya To Survive. She came out running from barrier 12 of 12, parked in the breeze in a race where they ran the first 600m 4.5L faster than 72+ average and then she held off every runner bar promising sprinter Burnya To Survive in the run to the post. Comes back in grade, could nearly cross them and goes round eachway. Looks to have come back well. TADWEER was brave last start behind Capital Flight. Parks up over the speed and should break through soon. REAR ADMIRAL is the X-Factor filly. Undefeated in two starts but there’s a query on both the map and what she has beaten to date. BRAVE VENTURE was far too good for them first-up with 61kg. Nice horse. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 10 – 5 Suggested Bet – TIME SCALE EACHWAY RACE 7 BURNYA TO SURVIVE didn’t look at all comfortable over winter on rain affected surfaces and was back to his brilliant best first-up. Wore blinkers for the first time, sat a length or two off the second last horse until the top of the straight and then unleashed a breathtaking turn of foot which suggested he was better than 72+/78+ ratings company and destined for bigger and better things in the near future. Expecting him to sit back at the rear and round them up again. Keep following him. RIVER RUBICON lost no admirers behind Revitup fresh. He can park midfield and come with a run. FEATHERWEIGHT may well settle alongside Burnya To Survive. Don’t think he holds the same firepower if matched side by side. KIA ORA STAR is going so well. Rejuvenated 9 year old back in career best. Numbers: 9 – 12 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – BURNYA TO SURVIVE WIN RACE 8 NEUFBOSC looks very much on track for another tilt at the Perth Cup. In 2020 he finished second in the Towton Cup, won the ATA Stakes and then backed up off 7 days to win the 2021 Perth Cup. After those victories he was a m103 rater. He has now come back down to a m94 and Neville Parnham has been able to map out a near identical preparation with the now 8 year old. Looks to be peaking at the right time and looks to get a gun run. TRULY INSPIRED will somewhat divide opinion. Races 12 points (6kg) outside the Handicap but is here because he must win this to qualify for the Perth Cup (same scenario Coolth/Mystery Island). Can be forgiven for one below par performance when pulling up with genuine excuses. COCKNEY CREW is back and like Marocchino beware a Lou Luciani galloper in front #tough. UTGARD LOKI gets the run he needs. Numbers: 1 – 10 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – NEUFBOSC EACHWAY RACE 9 THE VELVET QUEEN has come back in excellent order. Big winner first-up when savaging the line and then never saw daylight behind Billy Ain’t Silly & Big Screen when looking to be bolting in behind heels with nowhere to go. Can be ridden conservatively from the gate and joins the 3 deep train from the 800. She’s hard to hold out with the right run. CASINO SEVENTEEN has put in two rippers in WA and the form behind Alsephina/Big Bada Boom is on display throughout the meeting. Expect it holds up. BIG SCREEN looks like crossing with relative ease. Hard to run down if left alone in front. GINGER GREEN is honest and consistent. He maps to get a nice run midfield. Numbers: 9 – 12 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet – THE VELVET QUEEN WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,3,5,10 9 1,5,10 4,7,8,9,11,12 Market Market
