Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on December 20, 2018 | Posted by Scott Embry Scott Embry’s Preview Race 1 MARKET RULER should be very hard to beat once again. Got the pie run last start for Damien Lane and now has a claiming apprentice but should get the run of the race regardless. FIRE AND RAIN has a noted front running apprentice engaged with the rail back to true should be hard to gun down. EXCISE FREE may look to clear them from the wide alley. Win at Pinjarra was off the charts. MAGIC PLANET gets last crack at them. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – MARKET RULER WIN Race 2 NORDIC KING really does just pick himself here. This race has less depth than the field he beat last time and with normal racing luck should be saluting at the shorts. WONORG is an old battler but he is honest as they come. May find the front in a race devoid of natural speed. UPWARDS OTHERS is the other runner who may want to take it up and backs up off 7 days from a reasonable performance over 1800 last week. LET’S TWIST was finishing off well fresh. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 10 – 4 Suggested Bet – NORDIC KING WIN Race 3 ANGELIC RULER was awesome first-up. Came with a huge run down the middle and won stylishly. Backs up off 7 days and after the claim of Stone only goes up 1.5kg. Will get back to nearly last on a day where front runners are expected to thrive so is risky but boy is she talented. ARCHANT could be the logical danger if left alone out in front for Wee Pateman. ASSETRO was a classy 2 year old and returns on the back of a nice trial. KAKADU was no match for Angelic Ruler last week. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – ANGELIC RULER WIN Race 4 LIKE A BUTTERFLY finally gets out to a staying trip this preparation. Her effort two starts ago was simply woeful and uncharacteristic. Bounced back last start and was a bit stiff not to finish closer when held up. She gets her chance here. THE BIG SHOW was a booming winner last start when cruising past Beaucount and sailing away. This is no tougher and he is Perth Cup bound. BURGER TIME was big in defeat last week and the smaller condensed field may suit. BROTHER’S KEEPER is always there abouts. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – LIKE A BUTTERFLY PLACE Race 5 AMBIENTE is placed to absolute perfection by Liz Strempel and looks a stand out. A dual 72+ winner who has beaten home two subsequent 72+ winners, a subsequent 78+ winner and a subsequent Listed winner at his last two starts. Trialed very well and only the weight stops him. DUTCH SPY is a little hit and miss but on his day is hard to run down. ALPHA SKY was flying late and won well fresh but does it tougher from the gate. DOUBLE JEOPARDY impressed at his WA debut. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – AMBIENTE WIN Race 6 MATERIAL MAN is fool proof. If Justin Warwick elects to run him he will be right in the finish and from the gate has options. No natural pace maker in this field which is never ideal but he could even take it up himself. GALAXY STAR will be better suited by the smaller field. She’ll drop out and come with a big run. GATTING was knocked over in the Kingston Town and can make amends here. He is the third of the three winning chances in ‘The Ted’. PERFECT JEWEL was eye catching in the Railway. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet – MATERIAL MAN WIN Race 7 CELEBRITY DREAM is again really handed a race to lose with the set weights and penalties conditions of the fillies and mares series. Doesn’t go up in weight from her last start victory and it is hard to see anything from the Jungle Dawn turning the tables. LUCKY ROAR is the X-Factor addition into the race. Can hold a position from the gate and looks the danger. FONTAINEBLEAU was a great run last start and improves again with the trip. BLACKLINE leads them up and is probably better suited at a mile. Numbers: 1 – 8 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – CELEBRITY DREAM WIN Race 8 PARADISE SQUARE was a replay run in the Road to Ascot final. That form has been franked with Fine Scent winning a 66+ last weekend and Paradise Square was held up at crucial stages in the straight and never really got clear. PRINCESS ZELDA is unlikely to jump at the 18s currently on offer. Query at the trip but was a nice run in a fairly strong form race last start. Definite player at odds. DANNY GEORGE was a nice enough run in the same race and a big improver after the draw. MOET DE VEGA back in trip should give a better account. Numbers: 8 – 9 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – PARADISE SQUARE EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1 1,2,7 1 2,3,4,6,8,9,11 Market Market
