Ralph Horowitz’ Caulfield Best Bets Posted on July 26, 2019 | Posted by Ralph Horowitz Ralph Horowitz’ Best Bets Race 1 No 1 CAN’T BE DONE – win Logical short favourite and it’s his race if he has another run in him given it’s start number 5 in his first prep. Won on debut at Sale over STAR SURPRISE at Echuca who then turned the tables on him here a fortnight back. Betwen that just missed here, before going to Sandown and just beating KING OF HASTINGS who then came here and won easily. Nothing screams he’s looking for 1400, but should either lead or sit 2nd line on his terms from 1 and with first use of the track be in the A1 spot. Either he declines and/or something else jumps up and runs a clear PB to win, and that’s an appealing starting point. Market support pre-race that he’s coping with his racing would be preferred. Race 5 No 1 NOT A SINGLE CENT – each way Want to take on the favourite TAVIRUN here who has been going very hard in 2000 wins leading in, but has to both step up to the new pain barrier deep into a prep and adjust to the apprentice who while going well, note has only ridden one distance winner this year from 25 rides. Conversely NOT A SINGLE CENT has the elite senior rider Zahra and is rock hard fit coming from a near impossible position to win at Flemington after being genuinely luckless in Sydney and competitive in the Queensland Derby. With three staying runs and speed up front with distance doubts to run down, that appeals with the place on side. Race 8 No 6 SESAR – win Serious animal having only his 9th career prep, 2nd up in his first prep for Team Hawkes and if he brings his best he’ll be winning. Blinkers first time resuming at Randwick last October and ran blistering time on a wet (note not heavy as officially listed) track that included the best last 800 of the day. That probably flattened him given a plain Derby Day run and spelled. Was slowly away first up but ran down two rock hard fit veterans BOSS LANE and JUNGLE EDGE and again was solid and sustained with the 4th best last 800 and 7th best last 400 and 200 of the day after a slow start. Only fair jump out at Flemington 8 days back, but note without blinkers. Very keen to be with. Market Market
