Michael Heaton’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on June 18, 2019June 19, 2019 | Posted by Michael Heaton Michael Heaton’s Preview Race 1 ERISTIC made a promising return when finishing a narrow runner-up first-up a fortnight ago off the back of a dominant trial win. He’ll roll forward again and with natural improvement should be there for a long way. SCANDOLO hasn’t raced since his debut almost 15 months ago but has been tuned up with two solid trials, the most recent when walking in by almost four lengths with blinkers on. The shades go on here and he can give some cheek if he can find the front from the good draw. JUST TOO HOT has had plenty of chances but drops 5kg from his last-start effort with an in-form apprentice going on and can be thereabouts. RETURN A SMILE hit the line well behind Western Pride two starts ago and has the addition of blinkers for the first time here. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – ERISTIC WIN Race 2 Natural leader GATES OF BABYLON uncharacteristically bombed the start last time out and his chances were all but gone after that. Put a line through that run, his previous efforts rate off the charts for this race and he can bounce back strongly. ARSINOE will likely settle at the tail of the field but looks a nice type and will be hitting the line late. LUKE’S CHOICE was a beaten favourite at his last outing but the drop back to 1400m suits, the blinkers go back on and he maps nicely. SERENITY BAY appears to have ability and will have admirers but the bar plates going on at her third run in is a concern. Numbers: 1 – 6– 3 – 9 Suggested Bet – GATES OF BABYLON WIN Race 3 HOLY GHOST was a big run last week, backs-up off seven days and has the advantage of race experience against a host of debutants. Gets his chance. SNIPPIRANHA has been showing plenty of talent at trials for six months now and has drawn perfectly for her race debut. WICKLOW PRINCESS raced well in decent company last preparation and her two recent trials were very good. MONEY MATTERS has his first race start off the back of only one public trial but stretched out nicely going to the line on that occasion and Pike rides. Numbers: 1– 12 – 8 – 6 Suggested Bet – HOLY GHOST WIN Race 4 FAIREDU has a tough alley to overcome but hit the line very well behind subsequent-Saturday winner Deimos last start and looks primed third-up over a mile here. ARMED AND READY ticks a few boxes dropping back from 2000m to 1650m off six days and Pike jumps back aboard. TECHNICAL LIMIT flew from the tail of the field to win last time out but will have to do so again from the outside draw here and this is harder. ONE POINT LADY has contested harder races at his last two starts, backs-up off seven days and the mile should suit. Numbers: 9 – 12 –6 – 3 Suggested Bet – FAIREDU WIN Race 5 FAIR JOY has won only one of his 19 starts, has raced over 1000m at his last four outings and steps up to 1400m here but this is easier than his recent assignments and he has placed at all three of his attempts over the seven furlongs previously. Can give a sight on-speed. PERCEIVE rises from 1100m to 1400m second-up which also isn’t ideal but scored a soft win last time out and is appears to have some ability. GOOD FORTUNE wasn’t beaten far behind subsequent-Saturday winner Deimos last time out and will be hitting the line late. WILD GALAH is still a maiden but ran well first-up and has recorded surprisingly good sectional figures throughout his career. Numbers: 2– 6 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – FAIR JOY EACHWAY Race 6 WANNA BE GOOD has drawn awkwardly but looks ideally-suited dropping back from a mile to 1300m and his efforts prior to last start were very good. Should take a stack of beating if he can lob three-deep-with-cover. LUCKY LINDA LULU also drops back in trip and hasn’t been far away of late, maps nicely and Pike jumps aboard. KLEVA KEZZA is a big girl and may not be suited by her inside draw, however, she’s recorded terrific figures throughout her career and can improve sharply second-up. RED PADDY resumes without a trial and has been out of the winner’s stall for 774 days but his past 27 starts have been in exclusively in Saturday grade. He drops sharply in class to a midweek race for the first time in three years here and has placed in five of his seven starts first-up previously. Numbers: 3 – 12 –11 – 4 Suggested Bet – WANNA BE GOOD WIN Race 7 GILLESPIE would’ve slept well after a big effort when first-up a fortnight ago. He eye-balled the leader in a race where the winner ran an astonishing 9.6 lengths above benchmark and his trial win when beating recent Saturday winner Distant Trilogy prior to that was impressive. Hard-to-beat if the jockey counts to 10 before pulling the trigger. SPIRIT AND FIRE is an intriguing runner. Makes his WA debut off the back of two very nice trials and has a good first-up record but is likely to find the 1000m too short. STORMY ORA also resumes and trialled well 29 days again but hasn’t been seen since then. She maps to lob one-out, one-back here and can still make her presence felt. MAGIC PLANET races first-up off the back of two lacklustre trial efforts and is likely to settle back from the draw here but can still flash late at odds. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 11 – 2 Suggested Bet – GILLESPIE EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,3,7,9,12,14 2,5,6,7,9 3,4,11,12 6 Market Market
