Michael Heaton’s Friday Carnarvon Preview Posted on June 17, 2021June 17, 2021 | Posted by Michael Heaton RACE 1 COUNTER DRIVE steps up to a mile for the first time but drops 0.5kg for beating a stronger field in this grade after the claim of #BackWattoWinLotto. Three of his six rivals here were in that race and the closest to get to him was Encendio more than nine lengths away. TOMMY TO JACK bombed the start last time out but finished off well and drops 1kg in an easier assignment. LIKE HIM A BIT beat Tommy To Jack home in that race when making an impressive dirt debut. Being a 45-start class one who last won more than 28 months ago is the concern. BULL BAILEY an improver up in distance and with the blinkers being reinstated. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – COUNTER DRIVE WIN RACE 2 MADRID CENTRO won four-straight at Carnarvon last season and ended a stellar campaign as a c76 rater. Has since dropped back down to a c70 and his first-up third placing was solid. Steps up to 1600m here (where he is unbeaten at Carnarvon) and meets Annihilator and Startthefriar better at the weights for beating them home last start. JENABEL was a beaten favourite last start but drops 6kg and should be ready third-up. Honest type. ANNHILATOR was solid at his dirt debut and could be a good find for the season if he can recapture his metropolitan form from last campaign. DANEFIN has had a few runs back now and should be just about ready to fire. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – MADRID CENTRO WIN RACE 3 MYSTICAL MAN ran an eye-catching second at his dirt debut last start when storming home to run the fastest last 400m and 200m splits of the card. The extra 200m here looks ideal and if he jumps with them he should be hard to hold out late. Stablemate NERO CHIN CIN did it tough in the same race and has placed up to 1600m so the step to 1400m shouldn’t be an issue but he’s yet to score from 22 previous attempts. BIG SWOOP looks a natural query at his first crack at 1400m but is capable of finding the front and giving them something to catch. MUDS TOO HARD a mad one for novelty players at his first start on the dirt. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – MYSTICAL MAN WIN RACE 4 PORTRAIT LAO and CASUAL TRADE ran the quinella last start and drop back in grade. PORTRAIT LAO gets the services of a senior rider for the first time this season and also gets a 1kg swing in his favour. CASUAL TRADE is unbeaten from three starts this season and it’d be no surprise to see him win again but he faces his toughest test up 7kg and drawn the outside. RED EPIC ran well in a fast-run 1400m last start and is knocking on the door for his first dirt win. THE CHORISTER hit the line strongly last start and will be suited by the extra 200m. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 13 – 2 Suggested Bet – NOBEL IMAGE WIN RACE 5 SHIVERS OF JOY gets a unique opportunity to win his second Class One race as a Class One galloper after having his victory two starts ago taken off him. Went within a head of winning a Class Three last time out and gets in with only 1kg more than his (unofficial) Class One win after the claim. Looks mighty hard to beat. VERDIGRAS won impressively in good time at her dirt debut and looks like going through the grades this season. FAIRER AMERICA has placed at all three starts at Carnarvon this season and is well-placed dropping back to a 48+ after finishing runner-up in a 56+ last start. QUIRINDI comes out of a fast-run race in higher grade and is worth including in novelties. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – SHIVERS OF JOY WIN RACE 6 MOMENTS OF MAGIC made an impressive dirt debut when clocking the fastest 1000m win of the season so far. Only rises 1.5kg off that effort and looks hard to beat again. WOODBUG started favourite in that race and his chances were all but gone after missing the start. Rises 2kg with the senior rider going aboard here but is more than capable of bouncing back and turning the tables. Carnarvon newcomers BUSY ONE and CATIA battled out the minor placings behind Moments Of Magic and can feature in the finish again. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – MOMENTS OF MAGIC WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 1,2,4,6,9,11 1,2,4,5,11,12,13 3,6 3,4 Market Market
