Citino is yet to run a placing from three starts. It is a sequence that is going to be broken very, very soon. And it wouldn’t be a shock if the three-year-old gelding wins at his next start. The trial leading into his first-up run was terrific and it was also hard to miss his fast-finishing sixth. Granted, he was beaten more than four lengths, but that came after he was taken back from a wide draw and had difficulty securing a clear passage in the straight. He is well worth following.

The market support for Rumour Says on the weekend suggested she was there to run well. She did … without any good fortune. The Luke Fernie-prepared filly was slow to step and from there, proved a handful for Paul Harvey, who found himself at the tail of the field in a race that wasn’t really run to suit. Her best is well and truly good enough to claim a similar assignment.

Punters were left to wonder what might have been had Vast Art stepped cleanly at Pinjarra. A dominant winner the start prior, most expected the progressive three-year-old to easily handle the step to class five company. He didn’t disappoint. Despite missing the kick by two lengths, Vast Art rounded up all but the leader Heaps Of Moolah in another indication that Darren McAuliffe has got him going particularly well.
