Deane’s Flemington Best Bets Posted on October 28, 2016October 31, 2016 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Preview RACE 1 NO. 7 ACATOUR The traditional start to Derby Day is the Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) and it appeals as a good betting race with Sydney visitor ACATOUR looking a great winning chance. The Team Snowden trained colt won his first two runs this campaign before a luckless third behind PEACOCK in the Gothic Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on October 15. He will relish the spacious Flemington track and looks ready to peak for this race. The main danger is another Sydney raider, COMIN’ THROUGH, who has impressed in his two runs to date for the Chris Waller stable. They are two promising horse and, whilst I have a leaning towards ACATOUR, it might be a good quinella race with COMIN’ THROUGH looming as a genuine contender. RACE 6 NO. 12 EURO ANGEL The Myer Classic (1600m) brings together the elite fillies and mares from around the country at group one level and this year is no exception with a race full of great depth which provides good betting value. EURO ANGEL is a rapidly emerging mare that looks capable of making the quantum leap to group one class and looks a great each way chance. The four year old defied the pattern of the day to score a runaway win in the Ladies Day Vase (1600m) at Caulfield on October 12. That was only her second run back from a spell so she is open to further improvement and she did win at Flemington in lesser class earlier in the year. It is rare for the Team Hawkes stable to rush a horse through the grades, so they must have great faith that EURO ANGEL can prove equal to the task and run the race of her life at nice odds. RACE 9 NO. 11 SOUTHERN LEGEND Emerging sprinter SOUTHERN LEGEND looks well placed to make a winning Victorian debut when he runs in Race 9. The Les Bridge trained gelding has won four of his eight starts to date and comes off a good run at weight for age when finishing 5th behind TAKEDOWN in the Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on October 1. He drops back to handicap conditions and looked strong when he trialled down the Flemington straight on October 21. The Bridge stable won this race in 2008 with quality mare HOT DANISH and appear to have SOUTHERN LEGEND on target to win the race again. On a very tough program, SOUTHERN LEGEND appeals as the best bet of the day. SuperPick - Race 9 No. 11 Southern Legend - Profit Plus – 25% (Win) Bet Now
