Deane Lester’s Caulfield Best Bets Posted on August 28, 2020 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 3 NO.14 AFFAIR TO REMEMBER AFFAIR TO REMEMBER is a highly talented mare from the Dan O’Sullivan stable that looks destined for better class races this spring and can resume as a winner when she contests the Mares Benchmark 90 Handicap (1400m). The four year old measured up to good class races last campaign culminating with a third placing behind TOFFEE TONGUE in the Schweppes Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville on May 2. She trialled like a winner at St Arnaud recently and looks drawn for a cheap run with elite rider Damien Lane in the saddle. On a strong program, AFFAIR TO REMEMBER appeals as the best bet of the day. RACE 4 NO.7 I AM SUPERMAN Imported galloper I AM SUPERMAN resumes from a spell when he tackles the Open Handicap (1400m) and a bold showing can be expected. Whilst he is yet to win in four Australian starts, the Peter and Paul Snowden trained stallion has shown glimpses of good talent. His two trials in recent weeks have been outstanding, he has won two races at this distance and usually performs well fresh. He is drawn for a good run in a high pressure race and looks a strong winning chance at each way odds. RACE 10 NO.8 MISSILE MANTRA The Cockram Stakes (1200m) for the mares promises to be a stellar clash including the gifted RUBISAKI who is striving for her 9th win from 11 starts, however MISSILE MANTRA looks primed for a big first-up showing and represents terrific each way value. The daughter of Smart Missile is a stakes winner at this track and distance, placed at group one level in last year’s Thousand Guineas and two recent trials would suggest that she will produce a big run in this race. She is another strong ride for Damian Lane and, whilst she will get back from an inside draw, MISSILE MANTRA has a terrific turn of foot that can assist her to weave through the field and run well at good odds.
