Deane Lester’s Caulfield Best Bets Posted on April 3, 2020 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 3 NO.1 BUFFALO RIVER The Michael Moroney stable has enjoyed a strong run of success in recent weeks and can continue the trend when BUFFALO RIVER contests the Benchmark 78 Handicap (1400m). The four year old showed his talent with three consecutive wins last winter and looks well placed in this race. His two recent jumpouts have been sound, he will race near the lead and gets the benefit of Thomas Stockdale’s 3kg claim. On a tough program, BUFFALO RIVER appeals as one of the better bets of the day. RACE 6 NO.1 MALIBU STYLE Reliable galloper MALIBU STYLE kicks off his autumn campaign when he runs in the Open Sprint (1000m) and a forward showing can be expected. The eight year old has won six races at this distance and is very reliable in this grade. His recent Geelong trial would suggest that he has lost none of his zest for racing and represents terrific each way value in a competitive race. RACE 9 NO.12 DECLARES WAR DECLARES WAR is a capable stayer at his best that will be fitter for two runs this campaign and should be ready for a peak showing when he runs in the Benchmark 90 Handicap (2000m). The four year old hit the line sweetly when finishing 3rd behind NUDGE BAR over 1600 metres at Mornington on March 21. He will relish a step up in distance and just appears well placed in this class of race. Jye McNeil has enjoyed previous success aboard DECLARES WAR and they should combine for another big showing.
