Chris Nelson’s Saturday Toowoomba Preview Posted on September 26, 2024September 26, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Big day of racing at Clifford Park with the Cup & Weetwood the features. Weather unknown, rain is coming just not sure how much. Going with the locally trained BEEBEE DAZZLER in this opening event. He clocked in 5th at Doomben last start behind TIJUANA TWO STEP & they lock horns again in this race. BEEBEE DAZZLER was held up for a run at a crucial stage in the straight, once clear he hit the line strongly, he gets a 2kg weight swing his way & can turn the tables. Should the rain come BETTER BE NORDY’s chances will increase greatly, basically all his better form is on soft/heavy ground. Numbers: 6 – 9 – 11 – 7 Suggested Bet: BEEBEE DAZZLER EACH-WAY. RACE 2 Keen on the chances of QUOTHQUAN here. Such a consistent galloper of late he was game in defeat at Doomben last start being nailed by WARBY near the line in what was a two-horse war with a decent gap back to the rest. He sat wide no cover with WARBY right on his back, reverse the runs you’ll likely reverse the result, gets in here nicely at the weights on the limit. SET TO SHINE is flying, suggest she’ll lead from the good draw & prove the one to get past. CLOUDLAND gave the indication he’s chasing further last start, gets an additional 100m today will that be far enough? Numbers: 13 – 7 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet: QUOTHQUAN TO WIN. RACE 3 POPE CODY will start deep in red figures here & that’s fair enough as he looks lengths & lengths better than anything in this field. Caught the eye running on late two back at Doomben before bolting in at Eagle Farm his latest, 1600m looks ideal, he’s the winner. MINE KART CARNAGE chased him home last start taking no ground, can place again. Locally trained PROPOSE gives the indication he’ll enjoy the longer trip. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 7 – 8 Suggested Bet: POPE CODY TO WIN (will be very short unfortunately). RACE 4 RICH MINX has come up very short in early markets, too short in my opinion. Yes, she’s in great form this prep however this is a tougher race, she draws wide & is yet to tick the 1200m box. EXOTIQUE MISS is the class runner & I’d rather having something on her each-way, she holds a strong first up record, is aided by Tahlia Fenlon’s 2kg claim & should she not drift (needing the run) maybe end up being too good for these. PARTY SPIRIT closed off strongly last start, good gate, will enjoy 1200m & a wet track won’t concern. SPIRIT QUEEN is consistent; she just struggles to see out 1200m. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 5 I keep coming back to the consistent DAYTONA in this race even knowing the tempo may not be there to suit him. Beaten narrowly in a ‘heads up/heads down’ finish at Doomben if Ryan Maloney can have him close enough at the top of the straight I’m confident he’ll be able to reel the leaders in. END ASSEMBLY has had the one start since coming back from Melbourne, fitter yes, maps very well, this is tougher though. BATTLEFIELD was way under the odds last start over too short a trip, 1200m today is more suitable for him. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet: DAYTONA TO WIN. RACE 6 Not a good draw for BOSSED UP however I liked what he did at his last campaign which was only his second & I can only suggest being a young horse in the top stable he’ll have improved further over the break. His recent Doomben trial placing certainly suggests he has, just needs some luck from out there, cross everything! HELLUVA BARTY & DEVASTATING can both find the line strongly & if close enough are capable of winning. BIOGRAPHER is a newcomer to the Currie stable, has won fresh & should be kept on the safe side. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 7 First of the features is the Toowoomba Cup where I’m with the locally trained RED WAVE who did go around in this race last year finishing out of the money. This time around though he looks perfectly placed for top jockey Ryan Maloney & did catch the eye closing late second up at his last start behind CABOCHE who the market suggests is his biggest threat in the race. He just maps so well from that ideal draw. CABOCHE on the other hand draws poorly, likely goes right back & tries to round his rivals up from before the home turn, not an easy task. UNCOMMON VALOUR was a little flat last start, he’s better than that & is lightly weighted knockout chance. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 18 – 15 Suggested Bet: RED WAVE TO WIN. RACE 8 YELLOW BRICK is the class runner in this year’s Weetwood & I’m with him to go one better than last year when nailed on the line by All That Pizzazz. He’s a very good first up horse yet to miss a placing at 6 fresh attempts & that includes 3 wins, his trials have been good & he draws kindly, I’d expect him in the first four in running & from there he’s the one to beat. Definitely suggesting a saver on BRERETON who has been so consistent all prep, he maps well also & gets in very light at the weights. Many of the other main hopes draw very poorly & will need plenty of luck. Numbers: 1 – 14 – 10 – 4 Suggested Bet: YELLOW BRICK TO WIN/SAVER BRERETON. RACE 9 Extremely open race to wind up the day where I’m going to have a little ‘throw at the stumps’ on SPRAY GUN who just didn’t handle the longer trip last start (2200m). Freshened up & back to something more suitable he draws well to settle hopefully no worse than midfield & gets Angela Jones to pilot with a light weight. KERCHAK is on the quick back up, not sure that’s ideal however any repeat of his effort last Saturday has him right in this. Every chance AWASH last start however he is at least consistent. Numbers: 13 – 2 – 4 – 10 Suggested Bet: SPRAY GUN EACH-WAY (small bet). Market Market
