Chris Nelson’s Saturday Rosehill Preview Posted on June 26, 2025June 26, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing at Rosehill on Saturday will be on good ground. This week’s Midway gets the meeting underway and it looks very tough. I’m going with the resuming (2) ROLLING MAGIC who only had the two outings last prep running on well at both, inside gate sees him no worse than midfield & if strong home from there could take some holding out. Honestly nos.1, 10, 11 or 12 could win without surprising me one little bit! Numbers: 2 – 12 – 1 – 10 – 11 Suggested Bet: Box up top 5 selections in exotics. RACE 2 Murwillumbah mentor Matt Dunn has a great record in these Highway races & he could easily land another here with the in-form (1) THINK LIKE PADDY who has won 2 of his past 3 starts with the defeat coming in Group 3 company last start when no chance the way the race was run. I do like the look of (3) WARRIOR FOR PEACE however I’m aware he’s again likely to give away a start, freshened up he’s likely to be stronger to the line this time & can definitely figure in the finish. The consistent (5) NEW PHAROAH in the mix also, only lightly raced has good upside & gets a very much in form jockey to steer. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 5 – 10 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 3 Sticking with the third-up (10) TASORAAY who although beaten here a fortnight back I thought put in one of the better performances of the day. He set a strong tempo from the outset & once into the straight looked like being headed more than once, he fought those off however couldn’t hold the late closer who had the last crack. (9) PUNTIN the danger from the Bjorn Baker stable, lightly raced with a very good strike rate will take good benefit off the first up placing. (3) DON’T FORGET JACK was the one who ran down (10) TASORAAY, based on the tempo in that race he will need further however can still place at least. Numbers: 10 – 9 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet: TASORAAY EACH-WAY. RACE 4 Not the biggest of field to go around here however that doesn’t make it any easier! I’ve landed on (9) LADY BOSS who I’m sure I sacked a while back however sometimes we need to forgive & forget, she’ll only get the one chance though…! She draws well here, drops plenty in weight & coming back in trip will have no problem running out the 1400m. (7) CHANGING COLOURS has the form to win I’m just concerned as to how far back she gets whilst (5) WEEPING WOMAN faces a similar scenario to last start when run down after setting a suitable tempo. Chances certainly do not end there. Numbers: 9 – 7 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 5 The O’Shea/Charlton stable is flying at the moment & they can land another blow here with the lightly raced (3) LIVIN’ THING who has won 2 of 3 starts this time in with excuses the other (heavy 10). Liked the way he raced clear to the line last start in a race not run to suit yet clocking the quickest final 200m split of the meeting. Can he bring that midweek form to Saturday? Yes he can! (1) SPYWIRE has been hard to catch however he will find this an easier task than basically everything he’s ever gone around in, dry track a big plus. The resuming (7) SOVEREIGN HILL hasn’t raced for over a year however is in the right hands & trialling well. Liked (11) BEREZKA at Eagle Farm at 1200m, not so much here over 100m shorter, gives me the impression she’s chasing the longer trip. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 7 – 11 Suggested Bet: LIVIN’ THING TO WIN. RACE 6 More than happy to stick with the in-form (7) MICKEY’S MEDAL who racing in career best form. Tough as nails two back he sat 3 deep without cover still doing enough to get home, he then ran over the top of the leader here last start coming clear to the line. Rises in grade, drops in weight, certainly loses nothing with Braith Nock to steer. The ultra consistent (3) SIR ARTIE hit the line well first up behind a good type who was far from disgraced in the Stradbroke, fitter & drops a couple of kilos. (1) GREEN SHADOWS doesn’t look badly placed up in trip with the claim for another in form apprentice. Numbers: 7 – 3 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet: MICKEY’S MEDAL TO WIN. RACE 7 (6) MORMONA has been scratched from Eagle Farm with connections preferring to stay at home, both races were over the same 2400m trip. He’s a horse who appears to want plenty of ground, his record suggests just that having won up to 3000m when trained overseas & he seems to be forever running on. He stays at 2400m today however seemed a lot sharper last start & I’ll give him the nod although I wouldn’t be getting too carried away. (3) HOPEFUL & (4) SPEYCASTER were sound in the same race last start & again rate a chance. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 8 Open race where I’ll take the punt on (9) PURE ALPHA running the trip at what will be his first attempt. He’s been sound to the line his last couple with the latest in a race not run to suit, ideally he’d also score a wet track however that’s not going to be the case. (10) PIGGYBACK is well placed in the race however is another who is likely better served on wet ground, that’s not a complete given though. Big watch on the former UK galloper (1) HUTCHENCE. Numbers: 9 – 10 – 1 – 13 Suggested Bet: PURE ALPHA EACH-WAY. RACE 9 Listed race for the stayers, the import (3) ELAMAZ creates huge interest, he’s trialled well however all 7 of his starts to date have been at 1500/1600m now here he is first up in a new country over 2000m. Out of this yard he cannot be dismissed however I’d prefer to watch on this occasion. I’m taking a punt on a new & improved (1) ADELAIDE RIVER turning up here, now a gelding he finished under 2L behind Buckaroo in the Chelmsford first up last prep, anything similar to that would brain these. (4) TOURISTIC can bounce back. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet: ADELAIDE RIVER EACH-WAY. RACE 10 Pace does appear solid on the map in this closing race which will give the resuming (2) EYE OF THE FIRE his chance. Unbeaten from 2 first up attempts to date he’s been going ok at the trials & with the claim gets down to a winnable weight. (12) SNACK BAR is consistent without winning, has to go in somewhere but not on top for me. (13) LADY EXTREME is a model of consistency who can improve further off the first up win. Numbers: 2 – 12 – 13 – 9 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. Market Market
