Chris Nelson’s Saturday Rosehill Preview Posted on February 20, 2025February 20, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 We head to Rosehill in Sydney on Saturday with more feature racing to take place. Weather looks pretty good, certainly no rain events likely. We get underway with a 1500m Midway where there look to be a number of winning chances however many have come up with wide alleys & will need their share of luck. That’s not the case with the consistent MOGWAI who draws & maps ideally, he drops back in grade, is a proven weight carrier & will appreciate getting back out to 1500m. NOBLE SOLDIER also draws favourably, been thereabouts of late without winning. Include IT’S A WONDER who has some good numbers. Numbers: 2 – 8 – 10 – 9 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 2 Highway time this week over 1300m. Should we be able to secure $4 or better, EXIT FEE looks the safe way out. On the heels of the placegetters two back before beating all bar the winner his latest, yet to race here however can’t see that being an issue. KAYZ TIME is only lightly raced, well drawn to make an impact at this stronger level. BIDE YOUR TIME is unbeaten, another rising in grade however likely to measure up. Numbers: 11 – 12 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet: EXIT FEE EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 3 Looking for Tyler Schiller to be positive from the gates with LADY BOSS who if able to hold a position in the first 3 or 4 early on could take beating. She has strong form lines around Bunker Hut & Headley Grange & gets in nice & light on 53kg. A shower or two wouldn’t harm her chances as she does like the sting out. FRENCH RULER resumes & brings the class factor, likely gets back which is always of concern however good enough to get over them late if ready to go, market? DEEP ROUGE is big odds, looks overs to me, I’d include in wide exotics. Numbers: 10 – 8 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet: LADY BOSS EACH-WAY. RACE 4 Really found this race tough! BONITA QUEEN leads from the good gate however is on a quick 7-day back up, that’s a complete unknown with her. THEBLADE could be promising, trial winner which is a good sign from this yard & wasn’t far off a highly promising type last start. I’m going with ENRICHED each-way, well drawn can mix her form however I liked her recent trial in good company & she’s taken on some pretty solid opposition in her short career to date. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 12 – 6 Suggested Bet: ENRICHED EACH-WAY. RACE 5 1300m is certainly short of SCARLET OAK’s best & as one of her biggest fans early on I’m very keen to see how she goes this prep as her last couple have been poor however there were excuses on each occasion. Her latest trial when slicing through between rivals from the back late was very encouraging, just have to stick with her. MAKARENA & HINGED both well placed under the conditions of the race, include both whilst FIRESTORM a definite first up chance also. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet: SCARLET OAK EACH-WAY. RACE 6 Clear Golden Slipper favourite WODETON goes around here & has been done no favours whatsoever by the barrier draw. One start for a dominant win here back in January, he beat nothing however could only win which he did & comfortably so. Have to take him on from that bad gate though & will lean to BEL MERCI who won the Gimcrack on debut & has trialled well leading into this. Definitely see WEST OF SWINDON as a danger, market moves will be all important this race. Numbers: 10 – 3 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 7 The clear majority of these will all be heading to longer & more important races over the next month or two, most will be off their peaks which could well pave the way for OUR ANCHORAGE to make it 4 from 4 this prep. He’s rock hard fit, the stable is in form & although rising plenty in class he drops 6.5kg off the latest win. ATHABASCAN was only 2.9L behind Buckeroo first up last prep in the Chelmsford, that horse should have won the Melbourne Cup (imho). DON DIEGO DE VEGA didn’t fire a shot fresh, better than that. Plenty will be running on late. Numbers: 11 – 2 – 13 – 10 Suggested Bet: OUR ANCHORAGE TO WIN. RACE 8 The Group 2 Hobartville for the 3yo’s sees the return of BROADSIDING who of course was successful first up last prep winning the Group 1 Golden Rose here at Rosehill over this exact trip. Whilst unable to win at his subsequent 3 starts (all Group 1) he wasn’t far away in a couple of those & all came with their share of talking points. He should be too good for these. PUBLIC ATTENTION was too strong late for LINEBACKER in the Eskimo Prince at Randwick, both were first up, who has the most improvement to come? AELIANA definitely in the mix whilst I’d be expecting SWIFT FALCON to be zooming home late in the race. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 4 – 11 Suggested Bet: BROADSIDING TO WIN. RACE 9 HEADLEY GRANGE took a step up in class last start & whilst unable to get the victory he lost no admirers clocking in second behind HIGHLIGHTS & they lock horns once again here. HEADLEY GRANGE is the better placed at the weights getting a 3kg turnaround for the half-length defeat, the drop back to 1400m suits, he can bounce back. BEL AIR won third-up last campaign & is at the same stage of this prep, not far from Yorkshire last start in fast time, that one has since scored again. No knock WEST OF AFRICA’s form, he gets well back though & the tempo in this race doesn’t look strong on paper. Numbers: 11 – 9 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet: HEADLEY GRANGE TO WIN. RACE 10 Very tricky race the last, hard to get overly enthused about any runner, they all have their positives & negatives. BRUDENELL hasn’t won for some time & comes up with a gate which doesn’t read well on paper. However, take that barrier out of play & for mine he ticks more boxes than most & we’re going to get an inflated price due to that reason only. Not sure what to make of TIME TO BOOGIE & AUSTMARR’s last runs, they didn’t exactly attack the line? SEMILLION can improve, likely needs it wet though. SHEZANALISTER just doesn’t seem to go here on her home track, zero placings from 4 tries to date. Numbers: 1 – 10 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet: BRUDENELL EACH-WAY (small bet). Market Market
