Chris Nelson’s Saturday Randwick Preview Posted on June 19, 2025June 19, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing at Randwick on pretty much good ground with a run of fine & sunny weather. We get underway with a mile Midway where I’m siding with the consistent (12) CALLISTEMON on an each-way basis. Yes, she’s a bit of a tease getting back & running on in her races however there looks decent speed here coupled with 100m further than last start. (2) HELLFIRE EXPRESS & (3) FORECASTER will both race up on speed, they will be the pair the top tip needs to run down. Numbers: 12 – 2 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet: CALLISTEMON EACH-WAY. RACE 2 Another very wide market for this week’s Highway. I’m leaning to the more favoured runners being (1) SHROPSHIRE LAD & (3) EXIT FEE who do appear well placed. If having a bet I’d be inclined to back both as at the likely odds on offer a profit can be made should either win. The former draws out however is third up & with plenty of upside, the latter has strong form lines at this level & has trialled very well for his return. (3) SATIN STILETTO also in the mix for a very much in form jockey. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet: SHROPSHIRE LAD & EXIT FEE TO WIN. RACE 3 Can’t say I’m wrapped in the barrier draw served up to (4) BRAVE ONE however I do like his recent lead-up form. Placed both runs this prep he looks to be building nicely & although up in weight for this assignment does drop back to an easier grade of race. (11) LUNAITE also draws out, steps up to something harder however her last two starts have been dominant wins, maps on speed & should have little trouble crossing. Plenty of other chances including (9) SAKIMA who has trialled well, always a good sign from this yard. Numbers: 4 – 10 – 11 – 9 Suggested Bet: BRAVE ONE EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 4 Going with (8) GENTILESCHI who just missed out at Scone two runs back over 1700m before back to the mile here last start which didn’t suit yet she was beaten less than a length. Now she goes to 1800m which does appear very suitable. (3) PIPPIE BEACH is flying this prep, she almost brought up consecutive wins last start when just missing out from last, prefer her on wetter ground however going too well to leave out. Suggest (1) BELLE SAVOIR can improve sharply. Numbers: 8 – 3 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet: GENTILESCHI EACH-WAY. RACE 5 (11) HOPPER is only raced & going along nicely this time in. Solid winning at the midweeks first up he then beat all bar the smart Mickey’s Medal who saluted once again at Rosehill last Saturday. In good hands the step up in distance doesn’t look like posing any concerns. (5) MISS KIM KAR down in both class & weight after the claim, always positive. (4) BOYS NIGHT OUT must make the step up from Highway grade however he couldn’t have been any more impressive winning last start, does he need a wet track though? Numbers: 11 – 5 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet: HOPPER EACH-WAY. RACE 6 Ex Irish galloper (1) SALT LAKE CITY has been sent around big odds both local starts, he pulled up with cardiac arrythmia at the first & was subsequently beaten a long way. Second time around which was here 2 weeks back he was caught deep throughout yet kept on giving right to the line beaten under 4L. He’s a Listed winner back home & looks overs in the market to me. (3) SHAMARKAND likely finds this too short at his local debut, or does he? From this stable I wouldn’t be underestimating one bit. (4) ZAPHOD was awful last start, he goes in here however my opinion of him is starting to lessen. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 4 – 10 Suggested Bet: SALT LAKE CITY EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 7 Yet another tough looking race to sort. You’re either with the Storm The Ramparts form line or you’re not & it’s not the easiest of decisions to make! (3) HIGH DUBAI ran 3rd to that one first up back in late May, kept fresh they meet again however keep in mind (1) STROM THE RAMPARTS has won again, there is a 5kg weight turnaround in favour of (3) HI DUBAI for a margin of less than a length which leans me her way. (2) GITALONG led STR last start & couldn’t hold on, consistent however always seems to find one better. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 11 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 8 He’s got plenty of weight here (1) RAIKKONEN however he does have the best form, 61kg after Anna Roper’s claim plus a wide gate, he’s also in the next race as I type & may well end up there instead? Game in Group 3 company up north last start should he not win I have no idea what would beat him so on top he goes. (6) OH DIAMOND LIL was good fresh, didn’t fire second up, can’t sack on that. (12) CODE IN TIME can run a race fresh, market? Numbers: 1 – 6 – 12 – 11 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 9 Keen on the chances of the second-up (13) HEADLEY GRANGE who gives every impression he’s going to be competitive in better races either this prep or next. Should that be the case it all starts here in this Listed race where he draws ideally to stalk the speed. Loved his first up win when looking in trouble held up for clear running, once the gap came though he charged through to score running away. (6) GREBENI is racing well, drier track will suit. (21) RAIKKONEN right in it should he run here & not in the previous. Numbers: 13 – 6 – 21 – 5 Suggested Bet: HEADLEY GRANGE TO WIN. RACE 10 Taking a punt on (14) FULLY LIT improving fitness wise which should be the case second up off a spell of 14 months. To be honest I was a little disappointed by the first up effort when parking on pace & fading however that run should bring him on further, of course the market will be our best guide. (1) CONTEMPORARY draws well & should be fully fit third run back, claim also helps, hardest to beat. Stablemate (3) PEREILLE also peaking third-up & yet another stablemate (19) KERGUELEN must be included should he gain a start. Numbers: 14 – 1 – 3 – 19 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. Market Market
