Chris Nelson’s Saturday Ipswich Preview Posted on June 19, 2025June 19, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Huge day of racing ahead of us at Ipswich with the Cup & Eye Liner together with the Gai Waterhouse the features. No rain about track should be in perfect condition. The meeting gets underway with a 1200m Class 3 where I’m with the widely drawn (2) RUNWITHTHETIDE who will need luck from out there, Emily Lang will be looking to find a spot close to the lead with cover & should she be able to accomplish that he’ll get his chance to win off a game run first up when trapped deep. (3) PIVOTAL LAD did a good job to place here fresh after a poor start, is already a second-up winner. (1) PRE EMINENCE on speed will figure in the finish, claim sees him drop 3kg in the weights which is positive. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 2 Early market has singled out (9) BOYS NIGHT OUT & (11) HEMAN as the two main winning chances & I’m inclined to agree however which one? Well, the latter did chase home a promising horse last start, the trip is an unknown however he generally finds the line well over the shorter distances, I’ll lean his way. (9) BOYS NIGHT OUT couldn’t have been any more impressive winning at Randwick last start, he may be a wet tracker though & this surface will be dry. (14) QUOTHQUAN always in the mix around here. Numbers: 11 – 9 – 14 – 4 Suggested Bet: HEMAN & BOYS NIGHT OUT TO WIN. RACE 3 I shouldn’t be wrapping one in this stayer’s event as it’s notoriously difficult every year however I’m going to & that’s (2) BESTOWER who surely finds the right race this afternoon. Ridden upside down two back when caught deep he then was going to run past the winner last start however turned his head sidewards near the line just throwing it away. He really doesn’t face much in the way of decent opposition today. (15) WITTELSBACK is only lightly raced & can show up whilst (1) THE RIGHT WAY who beat (2) BESTOWER last start meets him 4.5kg worse at the weights & arguably shouldn’t have won. Numbers: 2 – 15 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet: BESTOWER TO WIN. RACE 4 (5) TALTARNI FIELDS will need a touch of luck off the awkward gate however winning form is good form & he has plenty of that having saluted at 5 of his 12 starts to date. Two good wins from as many outings this time in he’s twice a winner this track already. (4) SLIPPIN’ JIMMY resumes off a good gate with a claim, raced very well last prep & won’t be far away. (3) HOLY RACKET has raced well since joining the Currie yard & looks overs, definitely one to include in exotics. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 5 Found this race a tough one & ended up landing on the same horse the market has in (5) REDFORD who should be peaking third run back from a break. Tidy enough effort last start he drops in weight for this & gets back onto a drier surface which is going to suit. (9) DEEP RESPECT is another who will appreciate getting away from wet tracks, first up run was good, little luck the latest. (18) POSEIDON RULER is capable of mowing the lot of these down on his day, back from 1600m the latest is a plus as he just doesn’t see out that trip. Numbers: 5 – 9 – 18 – 11 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 6 Keen on the chances of (4) MISTER BIANCO who is going along very nicely this prep winning his last couple in succession. Liked the way he attacked the line at the latest & he looks a little more genuine at this stage, should get the perfect trip & I don’t have any concerns with the step up in distance. At big odds (16) BOLLINGER MISS a likely improver second up, little luck fresh & she has got some strong form last prep which definitely measures up to this. (10) SUJEED a knockout hope should he run here, he’s been nominated/accepted all over the place this weekend! Numbers: 4 – 16 – 10 – 1 Suggested Bet: MISTER BIANCO TO WIN. RACE 7 First of our features is the Ipswich Cup where I’ll take the punt on (1) MISS JOELENE even allowing for her big impost of 60kg. She’s been terrific all prep & will find this an easier task than the Group 1 & 2 features she went around in recently. Too far back the latest I doubt that will be the case here. (4) OSMOSE should be ready, suspect will roll forward & give a sight. (8) DIABLO BOLT should be ready to fire third run back, had some solid form up here last prep. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 8 – 3 Suggested Bet: MISS JOELENE EACH-WAY. RACE 8 The Eye Liner looks very low on early speed with only the Gollan trained stablemates Rockribbed & Devastate mapping to go forward. The well drawn (2) WARNIE should be able to take good advantage of his favourable draw & there was no better run at Eagle Farm 2 weeks ago than his in the Group 2 Moreton Cup flashing home late. Had he made the Stradbroke field he would have been very well fancied to win. Certainly putting (1) ROCKRIBBED in as the main danger, if able to dictate he will prove tough to get past. (18) HARBOURMASTER gets a run with the light weight & isn’t without a chance. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 18 – 3 Suggested Bet: WARNIE TO WIN. RACE 9 The Gai Waterhouse for the girls wraps up a huge day. I’m with (16) GERRINGONG who would be a fitting winner however I won’t be launching into a short price as she will drift back from that gate & ideally I’d like to see her over further than 1200m. She flashed home at this trip her latest after doing the same over 1100m first up. The very much underrated (1) BUBBA’s BAY should be included, she’ll race up on speed & should be ready to show up third run back. (4) KIN had every chance last start, two prior runs were very good. Numbers: 16 – 1 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. Market Market
