Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on October 3, 2025October 3, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing in Brisbane on Saturday comes from Doomben under sunny skies on a good/firm surface, no rain in sight. We open the card with a restricted distance affair where I’ll lean to (6) SO YOU ARE who’s 2.2L 5th in the Newcastle Cup is likely good enough to give this a shake. Beaten here the start prior he did have every chance however that’s also well up to winning this. (2) SPORTING CHANCE just keeps on running placings, the 2200m might be what he’s now chasing though. (3) KIRKEBY & (1) BARAZIN in the mix. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 2 Thought (6) HEYOKA looked well placed here stepping up to the 1350m trip. She’s right at her peak now & will enjoy the rise from 1200m as she has won out to 1400m. She’ll settle close enough to strike & drops nicely in the weights some 4kg into what is arguably a race no harder than her previous. Should there be a danger it comes from (10) ONE BEAT NO BEAT who clocked in second here two back before close up in a fast run race last time, also nicely placed at the weights. No knock on (4) ARAMINTA’s form of late however she may give away too much start this time around. Numbers: 6 – 10 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet: HEYOKA TO WIN/Saver ONE BEAT NO BEAT. RACE 3 No pace on the map which doesn’t suit my selection (7) KEITEL however I’m going to stick as he is capable of sprinting hard & fast off a soft tempo. He did just that winning his latest at the Sunshine Coast running over the top of the leaders from last & he’ll carry 6kg less in what is clearly a stronger race. (3) BULLION BOY may end up leading & if that’s the case he’s going to take plenty of running down. Very consistent all prep he’ll find this an easier task than his past few however note he does rise in weight. Respecting the NSW form including (1) TIME QUEST in the placings. Numbers: 7 – 3 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet: KEITEL EACH-WAY. RACE 4 Keen on the chances of the Sunshine Coaster (10) PHAROAH’S PROPHECY who goes around here off a break of a couple of months however is very capable when fresh & he has been tuned up for this a recent all the way trial win on his home track. He looks well placed to make it 3 wins from 8 outings. (4) GRAMMAR LAD hit the line well winning at Eagle Farm, based on that he’s well worth giving another chance out to this longer trip. I cannot catch (1) BOOM SHOT & have jumped ship, still have him in the place mix though. Numbers: 10 – 4 – 1 – 13 Suggested Bet: PHAROAH’S PROPHECY TO WIN. RACE 5 Interesting race for the 3yo’s where I’m in the corner of the two at the top of the page in (1) DUSHENKA & (2) PROFOUNDLY who come out of the same last start race run at the Gold Coast 2 weeks ago. Both were excellent runs for different reasons & I can’t knock either stepping up to the mile. For tipping’s sake I’ll lean to the former however will back both. (3) LONESOME SOUL had been chasing this trip for some time when victorious off a slow tempo last start, not without a chance also as she’s now proven at the distance & has been nothing but consistent all prep. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet: DUSHENKA/PROFOUNDLY TO WIN. RACE 6 Very interested to see how the lightly raced (15) MARGOT’S DEEL fares here. Lining up for only her fourth career outing & second this prep (as a maiden) she zoomed down the outside to win here running away from her rivals in very good time. The race was run in decent rain however she did have first use of the track being race one which may have inflated the time? I’ll put her on top however definitely each-way. (6) MAKE A CALL has really turned the corner since joining the Gollan yard, wide gate here however still a definite winning chance. (11) ROCK THE SUNRISE continues to race consistently. Numbers: 15 – 6 – 11 – 2 Suggested Bet: MARGOT’S DEEL EACH-WAY. RACE 7 Tricky race with the unreliable (3) LARRIKIN ROGUE engaged. He’d put in two very good runs & looked extremely well placed here two weeks ago however decided to revert back to his old tricks & stay in the gates which as a $3.40 chance proved to be very costly. Sent back to the trials he left the gates ok albeit a length behind the rest, I just can’t have him on top for those reasons however should he jump he’ll likely win. (15) SYNERGY IN MOTION bolted in fresh, rises in class yes however drops 3kg (jock rides at 53) & draws favourably, from there he should lead. (1) PARETO back in form last start however the 1350m is a concern. Numbers: 15 – 3 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 8 (13) CHALICE WELL is going to need luck off the wide draw however at the odds available she’s worth an each-way bet. Very consistent all prep she put together consecutive wins before very game here last start after racing wide without cover beating all bar the winner. (6) COSMO CENTAURUS is a first up specialist drawn to park behind the speed, trialled well, big market watch. (17) GUAC ON is only lightly raced & does show promise, two lead-up trials winning both. Numbers: 13 – 6 – 17 – 9 Suggested Bet: CHALICE WELL EACH-WAY. RACE 9 Market all important here with the resuming pair (7) NAVYONTHEHIGHWAY & (14) BAND OF BROTHERS. Both have the form to win the race & are well up in early markets however closer to race time will be the key. (5) EPIC PROPORTIONS has been racing very consistently down south & will measure up to this, has the fitness edge on the other pair. (4) HURTS SO GOOD will be the closer7 strips fitter for the first up run, look for him to be winding up late. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 14 – 4 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in quinella/exactas.
