Chris Nelson’s Saturday Doomben Preview Posted on July 10, 2025July 10, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Racing at Doomben on Saturday will be under sunny skies on a Good rated surface following a week of perfect winter weather. With the carnival now over for another year we return to mainly restricted class performers, mostly a whole new bunch of horses. In this opening race (4) PRE EMINENCE is racing well enough to make it two on the trot & three from his past four. Impressive at Ipswich on their Cup Day he will either lead or land a perfect spot just off the speed & from there get his chance aided by Cody Collis’ claim. Not a great gate for (9) END ASSEMBLY however look for him to be running on at the business end of the race. Numbers: 4 – 9 – 8 – 3 Suggested Bet: PRE EMINENCE TO WIN. RACE 2 Keen on the chances of the lightly raced resuming (6) KICKATINALONG who has won 3 of her 4 starts to date & they were all at her last prep by a cumulative 11.5 lengths, the latest by a widening 7 lengths. Her only defeat came at the hands of the smart mare Adiella who raced with success during the winter carnival. (7) LIGHTS OF PARADISE is racing well for the new yard landing a win on debut for the stable, well drawn gets her chance to at least place in Saturday grade. (1) BOARD MEMBER & (2) CERTAINLYCAN are the pace in the race, the latter hasn’t been aided by the wide gate. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet: FOLLOW ANY MARKET SUPPORT FOR KICKATINALONG. RACE 3 2yo affair where with the scratching of First Empire the race looks (1) LOCKYER’s to lose. Finally lived up to the wraps winning his maiden here last start producing a strong finishing burst. Gate 1 could be awkward however top jockey Emily Lang will be well aware of that & look to get him away from the rail asap. (5) GO MARO gave away too much start at Ipswich before making late ground, market wasn’t keen on him that day (stablemate won), look for an improved performance here. (2) BANG STICK brings the North Queensland form, can place. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet: LOCKYER TO WIN. RACE 4 (3) TUFF TU MUS is a month between runs rising 1350m to the mile. That’s a task I’m usually keen to take on however this horse is a winner & he just pulls out enough when the pressure goes on. One of those wins was out to this trip he’s had a trial between runs to keep him ticking over. (4) DEEP RESPECT backs up from last week’s narrow Sunshine Coast win, hasn’t had the best of luck this prep & can figure in the finish once again. (1) CRANKY HARRY & (2) DEMON DARB both drop back plenty in grade. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet: TUFF TU MUS TO WIN. RACE 5 Keen on the chances of (4) KADALL who has been doing his recent racing in NSW against stronger opposition. With basically no more weight on his back & the inside gate I can see him landing the run of the race & with a gap at the right time overpowering the leaders. (6) POSEIDON RULER is a complete ‘tease’, he’s always running on without success however he generally gets a win each prep, look for him late. (3) SIR CARTER is in form & maps well, claim helps for a very capable apprentice making his metro Saturday debut. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 3 – 9 Suggested Bet: KADALL TO WIN. RACE 6 Very difficult race, hard to have any confidence about any runner here. I’ve settled on (8) ELLIBABY who has had a try out to this 1350m trip without success. Her first up run this prep over 1110m was fast finishing & she’s certainly bred to run further suggesting we give her another chance even from the awkward gate. (11) ARAMINTA had her chance at Ipswich last start & first impressions were to dismiss her here, there’s no great depth to the race though & she does map well. (1) LADY SHOTGUN & (3) FAT FINGERS can hit the line hard, they be looking for a good tempo up front, on paper that’s unlikely. Numbers: 6 – 11 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 7 Wow, this is tough! I’m going with one at decent odds being (11) CHAYSE ‘N’ ARTIE who draws well & should be rock hard fit, the step up to 2000m suits & he really hasn’t been that far away all 3 runs this time in. (1) EAGLEMONT is impossible to follow however he’s amongst friends here, broke through for a win at Ipswich last start after 3 successive shockers prior, least he’ll run the trip out, that we do know. (2) ZOOOLOGY is an unknown out to this 2000m distance however he’s been consistent this prep. Numbers: 11 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet: CHAYSE ‘N’ ARTIE EACH-WAY (small bet). RACE 8 (4) SWISS EXILE doesn’t win often however I’m suggesting he’s well placed in this race. Although a winner over 1350m it’s not really his trip which has been validated his past 3 starts struggling to finish off. Freshened up & back to 1200m is ideal as is the draw, he’s going to land a very economical run. (1) HOLD ON HONEY resumes with a good fresh record, he’ll lead from the good draw & will likely look the winner half-way down the straight possibly later. (10) JOHN RAMBO & (5) AMUR will be the closers. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 10 – 5 Suggested Bet: SWISS EXILE EACH-WAY. RACE 9 We close out the day with a solid looking 3yo race where I’m leaning to the consistent (11) SHE OURS who has been racing well this prep albeit without any luck whatsoever. She just keeps on getting caught deep, with luck today from yet another awkward draw she can break through. (3) AMUSEANTES beat her home last start, no knock however she had the much better run parked away on the fence before clear late. (1) MISTER BIANCO was a controversial scratching last week, big weight & a wide gate here make his task a tough one however he is racing in peak form. Numbers: 11 – 3 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet: SHE OURS EACH-WAY. Market Market
