Chris Nelson’s Friday Sunshine Coast Preview Posted on February 28, 2025February 28, 2025 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Friday night racing on the Sunshine Coast where the track was posted a soft (5) at scratching time this morning. Sunny day ahead, expect an upgrade. Note the rail is at the 12m position, when this is the case the inside is the place to be & preferably on speed, making ground deep out is a tough task. We get things underway with a 2200m Maiden where CAPTAIN GOOD VIBES & MISS DYNAMO look the main winning chances. Honestly, I could go either way however will settle on the former at the better odds who may find himself closer to the lead than his main rival. She’s close MISS DYNAMO & the additional ground won’t harm her chances. PREFER TO DANCE is a query at the trip in my opinion however goes into the placings. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet: CAPTAIN GOOD VIBES (small bet). RACE 2 Leaning to the morning line favourite TEN GOOD REASONS however I wouldn’t want him any shorter in the market. He improved nicely between his first & second starts & looks the goods on paper, drawn an inside gate he’ll need Michael Rodd to make full use of it, should he end up buried back behind runners he’ll need a ton of luck. Thought HEAVY REIGN could run a race & is good odds, stepping up in distance shouldn’t concern. CLAW MACHINE an improver, MACONDA right in it particularly if able to lead. Numbers: 4 – 7 – 1 – 8 Suggested Bet: TEN GOOD REASONS TO WIN ($2.50 or better). RACE 3 Looks a suitable race for the NSW visitor SUMMER SOIREE who was a dominant winner of her maiden at Wyong recently (8.3L). She’s started twice since finishing close up on each occasion & from the good alley tonight should just about find the fence & possibly the lead. Freshened up dropping back 100m looks ideal. NIGHTCAPPED dug deep to win here at her first local outing, BILLY’S BRO doesn’t win too often however is rarely far away & likes to race on speed. Numbers: 8 – 4 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet: SUMMER SOIREE TO WIN. RACE 4 Going with MOONFLEET here however I will be guided by the market fluctuations as she does take the step up in distance having peaked very late when heavily backed first up. Should she drift then she may take another run however if firm I’m more than happy to stick. MIST OF DAWN shows good ability, her racing pattern of get back/run on doesn’t help & she may well be up against it with the rail out so far tonight, leaving her in the place mix though. MORE TROUBLE resumes, has raced well & beaten better opposition however not in recent times, gate could help. Numbers: 7 – 9 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 5 Tough race. No doubt IRISH SONGS the best performed horse in the race however he’s a get back type unless drawn a gate, he hasn’t done that suggesting he will settle rearward unless connections decide to push on? I’ll lean to the local POCKET FULL who actually finished behind IRISH SONGS in town last start, the way the track likely plays tonight suits him a lot better though. Thought LIGHT OF BOOM could be an improver here. UNDER THE CAP in the mix as well. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 6 Keen on the chances of the Heathcote stable runner POUTCHEK who had been off the boil form wise however her latest run when close up at Doomben suggests she’s back heading in the right direction. Aided by the claim the jock just needs to get her into a prominent spot early & from there she should have her opposition covered. Thought BETATHANEVA was the main danger, she’s come up good odds this morning & can make use of the favourable draw. HOOKS may be one to throw into exotics at a price as he does like to lead & could give a sight. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 12 – 3 Suggested Bet: POUTCHEK TO WIN. RACE 7 Could be a case of NSW form to the fore here with MONGOMERY getting the nod over a couple of others who have recently raced down south. He looks a dour staying type coming out of decent form races of late & gets a strong rider in Bailey Wheeler to do the steering. UP AND COMER brought his country form to the provincial stage last start running well at Scone, likely rolls forward which is a huge advantage tonight. The lightly raced TENNESSEE WHISKEY hit the line well at Ballina last start, additional trip suits. Numbers: 7 – 9 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet: Box up top 3 selections in exotics. RACE 8 Found this final race very tricky even though there’s only a small number of runners to go around. KWIK AS HELL will be a decent price & does race well here on her home circuit. She needs an aggressive ride early to get up near the lead however if able to do that rates some sort of a chance. KING YOSHI likely better than most here, just may need a little luck from that awkward draw? RUBY CHICKS a very interesting runner, off the scene for quite some time yet trialled well & holds a very solid fresh record, BIG market watch. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. Market Market
