Deane’s Saturday Caulfield Best Bets Posted on March 29, 2018March 29, 2018 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Preview RACE 6 NO. 8 TOP OF THE RANGE TOP OF THE RANGE has been racing in very good form and looks the one to beat when he contests the Robert Taranto Handicap (1800m). The four year old scored an impressive win over 1600 metres at Caulfield on February 21 before a luckless second behind SOHO RUBY in the Grand Handicap Mile (1600m) at Flemington on March 17. He looks ready for the extra distance of this race and elite rider Ben Melham takes the mount. He’s a progressive horse that looks ideally placed to record his fourth career victory. SuperPick - RACE 6 NO. 8 TOP OF THE RANGE - Win Boost RACE 7 NO. 1 HOMESMAN It looks a strong renewal of the Easter Cup (2000m) and HOMESMAN represents the class runner of this field and should prove hard to beat. The Liam Howley trained gelding scored a brave win over his stablemate ALMANDIN in the Victoria Gold Cup (2000m) at Caulfield on February 24 before enduring a wide and torrid run when finishing a tough 6th behind HARLEM in the Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington on March 10. The four year old was forced to race in the inferior part of the track, so his effort to finish just 2.25 lengths from the winner was quite outstanding. This is a great race for him and he’s clearly the one to beat. RACE 8 NO. 6 THEANSWERMYFRIEND THEANSWERMYFRIEND is a 1400 metres specialist that will be fitter for one run back from a spell and appeals as a strong winning chance in the Victoria Handicap (1400m). The son of High Chaparral resumed with a narrow second behind SOVEREIGN NATION in the March Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on March 17. He has a strong second-up record and has a good racing style in that he will race near the lead and has a strong turn of foot. Rider Ryan Maloney has been clocking up plenty of winners in recent weeks and THEANSWERMYFRIEND looks a strong chance to provide him with a feature win. Bet Now
