Greg Hooper’s Ascot Best Bets Posted on March 24, 2016March 29, 2016 | Posted by Greg Hooper Greg Hooper’s Preview RACE 1 – MINEARC SYSTEM PLATE 1200m No. 6 ELLICAZOOM – Regally bred filly ELLICAZOOM made a terrific impression on debut last when making good late ground in the Gimcrack Stakes. This is big drop in class and she should be able to settle just behind a strong tempo and be too good. (1) GUEST EXPRESS returns from a freshen-up. He led all the way at his most recent start beating a subsequent winner. (5) NOBEL IMAGE disappointed in the Magic Millions, she can improve off that. (4) DIAMOND PRINCESS endured a torrid run in the Gimcrack. Pike goes on. Suggested Bet –Ellizazoom win RACE 2 – FLYING COLOURS RESTAURANT HANDICAP 1800m No. 4 OUTLAW PETE – Happy to stick to the last start winner OUTLAW PETE. He should get a lovely run just behind the speed and the 1800m looks ideal. (2) SAKER was runner-up behind him last start and looks the danger again. (3) COUGAR NIGHTS is racing well and the drop back to 1800m should suit. (1) UNCLE GEORGE is back in class but rises in weight. Suggested Bet – Outlaw Pete save Saker RACE 3 – AMELIA PARK KARRAKATTA PLATE NEXY SATURDAY HANDICAP 1200m No. 2 RECOILED – Jim Taylor looks to have another smart sprinter in the unbeaten RECOILED. He rises to 1200m for the first time however he should hop straight to the front and take a heap of catching. (1) UNIVERSAL LAW will get off the speed and attack the line late. (5) SPORTING IMAGE should appreciate the rise to 1200m. (8) PEGGIE’S MAREE is another looking for the trip. Suggested Bet – Recoiled win RACE 4 – $100,000 LISTED RACONTEUR STAKES 1500m No. 1 LITE’N IN MY VEINS – This is a good clash between some very exciting three-year-olds. LITE’N IN MY VEINS has been very impressive in his two career starts. He tucks in just behind the speed and looks a terrific chance at making it a winning hat-trick. (2) SHOWY CHLOE was a dominant winner of the Breeders Classic. Pike once again teams up with her and she will camp on the speed and is the one to run down. (5) ALL GEE is up in class but has shown this preparation that he is capable of winning a nice race. (4) PUSHIN’ SHAPES has place claims again. Suggested Bet – Lite’n In My Veins win RACE 5 – $100,000 LISTED GRANDSTAND CUP 1500m No. 6 WINK AND A NOD – Really keen on the class mare WINK AND A NOD. She has lumped big weights in both runs this campaign. She drops 3.5kg and importantly meets key rivals 6.5kg better at the weights. She should be too good. (5) BATTLE HERO was desperately unlucky in the Bunbury Stakes. He looks the main danger. (3) DREAM LIFTER can lead or box seat and play a part. (2) YOUNG LIONEL put in a career best effort in the Bunbury Stakes and despite the weight turn around has claims again. Suggested Bet – Wink And A Nod win RACE 6 – SCHWEPPES WATC DERBY APRIL 16 HANDICAP 1200m No. 7 LUNAR ECLIPSE – This is the most open race of the day. LUNAR ECLIPSE was terrific last preparation winning three in a line and racing without luck on a couple of other occasions. He gets a soft run from gate 1 and if the gaps appear he should be strong late. (8) ILLUMINATED is the class runner of the race. He probably needs further to show his best but can beat most on class alone. (4) MIKI TWO TOES is rock hard fit and in form. (5) KING OF THE PALACE should get another cheap run and can win again. Suggested Bet – Lunar Eclipse and Illuminated RACE 7 – VISIT STONE MOTHERLESS AFTER THE LAST RACE HANDICAP 2200m No. 13 TRULY GOLD – Happy to be on the promising three-year-old TRULY GOLD. He was taken to York for a kill last start and put on a clinic. The final margin was just under 3 lengths it could have been a lot more. I think he can go on with the job and make it back to back win. (3) PRESENT ARMS has returned to racing in top form this preparation. The rise in trip should suit. (1) DESERT GLOW ran well first-up in a stronger race. (2) LET’S GO LAKERS has hit form and can win again. Suggested Bet – Truly Gold win RACE 8 – FASHIONS ON THE FIELD – REGISTER NOW HANDICAP 1500m No. 12 STAR EXHIBIT – Keen on STAR EXHIBIT in this final race. He beat the smart Pounamu first-up and if he improves off that run he should be too good for these. (4) NEXT CONTESTANT is hard to catch but on his day he has a strong late finish. (1) EUROSUN is a place banker every time he starts. (3) KING OF WU is always a chance to bob up at odds. Suggested Bet – Star Exhibit win QUADDIE RACE 5 – 5, 6 RACE 6 – 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11 RACE 7 – 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 10, 11, 13 RACE 8 – 4, 12 Bet Now
