Greg Hooper’s Ascot Preview Posted on April 22, 2016 | Posted by Greg Hooper Greg Hooper’s Preview RACE 1 – BUDGET CAR & TRUCK RENTAL PLATE 1200m No. 4 HIT TUNE – At the prices on offer going for the debutante HIT TUNE. She has looked very sharp in her trials and Harvey takes the ride. From gate 1 she should be in a prominent position and finish strongly. (1) DAINTY TESS was a big first-up winner. She overcome traffic problems and powered clear late. Any luck from her wide draw and she goes very close again. (3) OLIVER’S TRAVELS ran well on debut and then had no luck at his next start. (9) OREGON BREEZE has looked sharp in her trials. Suggested Bet – Hit Tune save Dainty Tess RACE 2 – BUDGET.COM.AU HANDICAP 1200m No. 2 AIRLIE SUN – Tricky little race and for that reason going for AIRLIE SUN at each-way prices. He returned to the winners’ circle at Bunbury with a determined win. He should get a nice camp on the leaders and keep finding. (3) ROSMARTINI has an impressive strike rate. She leads and takes some catching. (4) PIC’S PRIDE has a had month’s freshen-up since an impressive win over this trip. (1) REVEREND JOHN can run a race fresh. Suggested Bet – Airlie Sun each-way RACE 3 – BUDGET GOOD TO GO HANDICAP 1500m No. 8 STAR EXHIBIT – The market has got this down to predominantly a race in three and on paper it does appear that way. STAR EXHIBIT gets weight edge having to only carry 54kg and for that reason she gets the nod. All her three runs have been good. (4) TRADESMAN just missed fresh and can go one better. (1) LUNAR ECLIPSE is always a chance at this level. (2) CORPORATE LARRIKIN gives some cheek in front. Suggested Bet – Star Exhibit win RACE 4 – BUDGET DIY MOVING HANDICAP 1600m No. 9 COSMIC JEUNEY – I’m keen on the impressive debut winner COSMIC JEUNEY. She really attacked the line over the final furlong at Bunbury suggesting the step up to a mile will be ideal. Pike retains the mount and if she can muster early speed and hold a spot from gate 2 she should be too strong. (8) BY DECREE is the stable mate of the top pick. She put in a shocker first-up however she’s a much better filly than that. She can improve sharply. (5) HUMBLE PUNTER gave a good sight on the speed at Bunbury and the blinkers go on. (1) HEDLANDER BOY looks just about ready to break through again. Suggested Bet – Keen on Cosmic Jeuney save By Decree RACE 5 – BUDGETTRUCKS.COM.AU HANDICAP 1800m No. 9 RIPPER RIO – I’m very keen on the promising grey RIPPER RIO. He shook his maiden with a big win at Pinjarra and then very well finishing strongly from just off midfield in a race devoid of any speed. The rise to 1800m looks ideal and he should be able to land in the first five in running. From there I think he’ll be too strong. (3) CARALABEK is the clear danger. The drop back to 1800m is the query for him. (1) KING OF WU may be able to lead and control again. (4) LET’S GO LAKERS is always a chance at this level. Suggested Bet – Keen on Ripper Rio save Caralabek RACE 6 – DIGGERS’ CUP 1800m No. 8 STREET BANDIT – This is a tough race to assess. Going for the cult figure cult figure STREET BANDIT. He came of age last preparation winning four races after being a maiden for well over thirty starts. He’s been racing in set weights and penalties races against some quality horses. This is a nice drop in class and with the claim for Jake Casey he carries just the 52kg. He can run a race at big odds. (2) BEDAMIJO is another who appears over the odds. She didn’t run the trip in the Western Australian Cup and she will relish getting back to 1800m. (3) NORTH RIDGE is tough and drops weight on his win last week. (6) FIRST IMPRESSIONS won the Oaks with a blistering turn of foot. She was subsequently scratched from the Derby with a sore foot and the bar plate goes on. If she is at her top she could blow these away. Suggested Bet – Street Bandit and Bedamijo RACE 7 – BUDGET 12 AND 25 SEATER BUSES HANDICAP 1400m No. 4 DENDEE – Keen on the promising mare DENDEE. She was super in her fresh win and then found trouble and smashed the line last week where she finished behind right behind a couple of very talented sprinters. If they are making ground later in the day she should be too strong for these. (6) LIBERTY RISE flies fresh and she was asked for little in a recent trial. (11) EXPRESS BOY will race handy to the speed and give a kick with his light weight. (3) UNBRIDLED SPIRIT has hit form at the provincials and has claims. Suggested Bet – Dendee and Liberty Rise RACE 8 – BUDGET SPECIALTY COMMERCIALS HANDICAP 1200m No. 3 MAN BOOKER – Happy to go with the Guineas winner MAN BOOKER. He endured a torrid run first-up and predictably faded late. From a better draw he should find a spot on the speed, get some cover and go very close. (9) PROFIT STREET has won four career starts and W Pike has ridden him to victory in three of those. He’s back on and is drawn to get the run of the race. (2) KING OF THE PALACE is flying. (1) WAR PRINCE is very consistent. Suggested Bet – Man Booker each-way QUADDIE RACE 5 – 2, 9 RACE 6 – Field RACE 7 – 3, 4, 5, 6, 11 RACE 8 – 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, 10 Bet Now
