Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on August 24, 2021August 24, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SUNDAY GIN was having his first start over a staying trip 7 days ago when finishing better than anything in a genuinely run race behind Dance of the South. With the riderless horse engaged the speed went on a fair way from home and a number of them got left behind as the race was dominated in front. Sunday Gin really caught the eye late in the race and the way Ray Vincent is improving these horses he’ll only be getting better. HEAR ME comes from Kalgoorlie and looks an out and out stayer. No real speed and Pike should take him to the top. SHE WHO DARES was running well on the heavy tracks. On top of the ground she may find it tougher. XCAVATE dumped CJP as the gates opened last week. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – SUNDAY GIN WIN RACE 2 BENTLEY BEAU really has put the writing on the wall now. The first-up run when heavily supported in betting was solid, the second-up run when put into the race at the 1000 was excellent when only run down late by talented 3 year old Cheerful Moment and then 7 days ago was slowly into stride and then sat deep for the entirety. Kept coming and was only beaten the narrowest of margins. This now looks his race. ACT INNOCENT finished off nicely behind Dorado and he has gone on with it in higher grade since. ROCAROYALE ran well at his WA debut and the East Coast form suggests he’ll be improving every time Anthony Oram steps him out. MISS VOODOO is racing like she’ll need every inch of 1600m. Shown glimpses in the past. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – BENTLEY BEAU WIN RACE 3 BORN TO RULE should simply prove too classy again. Had 2 year old form around All Day Session, Billy Ain’t Silly, Continuance and Clairvoyance to her name when returning from a long spell and made C3 opposition look silly. She had trialled the house down in preparation and CJP had her bolting outside the leader. When he said go they couldn’t see where she went and she recorded a soft and emphatic victory. Has to reproduce it on top of the ground with 60kg but looks well and truly above average. AMELIA BEDELIA didn’t fire a shot first-up. Dipped at the 400m and didn’t look comfortable. Loves the Northam surface and goes super second-up. TO RISE AGAIN has been knocking on the door for months but it is yet to open. MY BLUEBOY rarely runs a bad race. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – BORN TO RULE WIN RACE 4 ARCADIA GRACE looks one of the Cerise and White fillies of the season from what we’ve seen so far at trials. Always get excited this time of year trying to find the next one worth following all the way through the carnival and for most trial watchers this filly is club house leader. Like Mystery Moment last Thursday should hold way too much fire power. Expecting her to jump awfully short and awfully well supported with lots of syndicates seeming to launch the Grant & Alana Williams debutantes. ($1.30?) LUCIFER and KANDAKA have both been trialling up well for Adam Durrant and with CJP siding with Kandaka that might be a push in itself. NUTWOOD can get across from the middle alley. Numbers: 11 – 5 – 7 – 10 Suggested Bet – ARCADIA GRACE WIN RACE 5 SAFETY FUSE gives Chloe Azzopardi a wonderful opportunity to notch up another winner after breaking back into the winners circle with Goldfrapp at Belmont just a fortnight ago. On debut finished third behind Pixie Chix and then was thrown into the Listed Supremacy when finishing only 2L off Liwa and then the Group 3 Gimcrack when only finishing 3L off Hoi An. Super form for a 3 year old set weights maiden. SECRET LAIR went around favourite in a 2 year old SWP race at Ascot only two starts ago. Ran some great races in his initial preparation and the trial was excellent. HARMIKA has shown enough at trials to suggest that she’ll take beating regardless of the wide gate. The Arcadia Grace trial form is all worth following and she was solid. BUCKLAND looked to have natural ability in the most recent trial. Drawn sticky but looks to have a motor. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 9 – 5 Suggested Bet – SAFETY FUSE WIN RACE 6 LONEHAND LARRY is still a work in progress but the natural ability level is clearly there. Only an 1100m Ascot maiden winner at his first outing for Hayden Ballantyne, however, boasts a second placing and a third placing in 60+ Graduation company. Most recently finished fourth to Kaptain Kaos in a race which most expect to be a winner producing form reference. Zephyr Queen and Dark Mission are already winners out of the race and Campese with even luck would have been in that list too. Looks a 1400m type ad this is not a strong line-up. ROMAN FLIRT might be looking for further but with the addition of W.Pike can improve sharply enough on top of the ground after resuming on an unsuitable Heavy8 surface at 1200m. ROCK’N’RULER comes into this fresh and his best is strong enough to be highly competitive. IT COMES NATURAL wasn’t horrible down the straight last week. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – LONEHAND LARRY WIN RACE 7 CASTILLO DEL LAGO should be giving Angela Johnston a grass winner. Might have to sit outside of Big Screen which will mean they’ll clap the pace on a fair way from home but that should only suit this free rolling type even more. Last preparation was beaten late in the race by Double Spice in a C1 where they went 6L faster than average and after that found himself in some of the 3 year old features including finishing third behind Western Empire in a Listed Lex Piper. No doubt Michael Lane picked out this race for Castillo Del Lago and Angela Johnston. BIG SCREEN is a natural runner and unlike last preparation Justine Erkelens goes straight to the 1300m. First-up no trial is an unknown for him but he’s got ability and stamina. REGAL CITY a mad one for novelty inclusion on top of the ground. STARLIFT tracks the leaders every inch.
