Michael Heaton’s Sunday Port Hedland Preview Posted on May 29, 2026May 29, 2026 | Posted by Michael Heaton RACE 1 MY TEA could kick off a big day for Brett Pope who has 16 runners engaged. He drew the outside first up and ran a nice second at his first Port Hedland start and now draws a much better gate whilst also getting Austin Galati on board. WORKING CLASS girl ran well at her first start for Tom Pike and can roll to the top here to give a sight on-speed. TAKE THE FIELD jumped favourite first up and now gets 3kg on My Tea but has drawn awkwardly. WATERSHED WISDOM was scratched from Sunday’s Roebourne meeting and showed enough prior to her last start to be winning a race or two. Numbers: 1-9-2-7 Suggested Bet – MY TEA WIN RACE 2 HIT THE JACKPOT was massive at Roebourne last Sunday when posted 3-wide the trip with 61kg and boxing on strongly to be beaten only a length. He now drops 6kg off the quick back up, should land in the first two in running and looks ready to break through. COMMISSIONS resumes at a distance short of his best but he was flying at the end of the Broome season last year and then ran well in two metropolitan-grade races after that. ESQUEL tried to burn the candle at both ends from her outside draw first up and shouldn’t have to work as hard here. Natural improver second up and dropping 5kg. BORDER CONTROL won his last 5 at Port Hedland last year before taking out the TABtouch Broome Sprint but looked in need of the run first up and might not be ready yet. Numbers: 6-3-5-1 Suggested Bet – HIT THE JACKPOT WIN RACE 3 STAR POWER ran a head second to next-start Ascot Graduation runner-up Mississippi Dawn first up, beating home subsequent 6L winner Dynamic One, then got the job done at this track, grade and distance last time out. She’s 2 from 2 at this circuit and can keep her undefeated record there in tact. LEADING TADDY returned with a sharp win at his first start for Dean Cocivera under 61kg and now drops 1.5kg. He looks the danger. FAMEUX is an honest type and gets 1kg on Star Power from last start. He could also potentially kick through to lead this time around. ARDRETT hit the line really strongly late first up at Roebourne last week and will appreciate the extra 100m. Numbers: 2-4-3-5 Suggested Bet – STAR POWER WIN RACE 4 CALATHINITE has drawn sticky and rises 4.5kg from his first up run but gains the services of Austin Galati and he beat home dominant next-start Roebourne winner Percussion Prince in that outing. They ran solid time that day and he has the speed to work across to land on-speed. LADY CABERNET hasn’t won in 1,168 days and was beaten 5L by Calathinite last start but gets a 5kg swing on him and was consistent last north season. CHANTILLY GIRL got a soft lead first up and duly saluted at this track distance and looks the likely leader again. HELL’S CITI was another who benefited from being able to dictate terms when bolting in at Carnarvon first up for Brett Pope’s yard. Numbers: 1-4-6-3 Suggested Bet – CALATHINITE WIN RACE 5 CROWS won first up with 60kg at York and this doesn’t look much harder. She can park behind the speed from her good draw and whilst she’s no world beater, with any natural improvement she could pinch a couple of wins for Ryan Hill this north season. PERCUSSION PRINCE backs up after winning by just under 6L at Roebourne and has to be respected. OSCAR WINNER scored a strong win first up at Rockingham before an even run in this grade at Port Hedland last time out and this race doesn’t look quite as strong. IMMORTAL SHIELD makes his WA debut and brings handy enough east coast form but has been set a task first up, no trial at 1400m. Numbers: 1-5-4-7 Suggested Bet – CROWS WIN RACE 6 TOUSLED CROWN brings handy grass form to Port Hedland and did her best work late when making good late ground at her first start here. She looks better suited stepping up to a mile, can roll forward this time around and importantly has Austin Galati jumping aboard whilst also carrying 5.5kg less than her main danger. DYANMIC ONE got stung with 5 rating points for his dominant win by more than 6L last start and now has to lump a full 64.5kg but he incredibly ran a full second faster than the other 1300m race on the day. He’s still the horse to beat. HEZAZEB backs up after a better effort at Roebourne last week and should continue to improve as the distances increase. TOBIAN was beaten a long way by Dynamic One but gets 2.5kg on him here and has been consistent. Numbers: 2-1-3-10 Suggested Bet – TOUSLED CROWN WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 2,3,4 1,4,6 1,4,5,6,7 1,2 Market Market
