Deane Lester’s Bendigo Best Bets

RACE 1 NO.2 GRAND PROMENADE

GRAND PROMENADE is an exciting stayer from the Maher/ Eustace stable that looks ideally placed to continue on his winning way when he runs in the Benchmark 84 Handicap (2400m). The four year old has won his past four starts including a brave win in the Grand Handicap (2400m) at Caulfield on March 14. He was headed on that occasion but showed great fight over the concluding stages to maintain his winning sequence. This looks another suitable race and GRAND PROMENADE appeals as one of the better bets of the day.

RACE 6 NO.13 VANUATU

The Bendigo Gold Bracelet (1400m) has brought together a very competitive field of talented mares and the Grahame Begg stable is poised for back to back wins in this race when VANUATU resumes from a spell. MISS SISKA provided the stable with a win last year and VANUATU looks well prepared for a big first-up showing at each way odds. The four year old showed that she is a talent with a Group 3 placing last campaign and has trialled strongly in recent weeks suggesting that a big fresh run is on the cards. The spacious Bendigo circuit suits her racing style and VANUATU represents terrific each way value.

RACE 9 NO.12 BIG NIGHT OUT

BIG NIGHT OUT should be fitter for two runs this campaign and looks the one to beat when he contests the Benchmark 90 Handicap (1400m). The John Sadler trained gelding has finished strongly in both runs, the most recent when finishing 2nd behind CHICAGO CUB over 1200 metres at Flemington on February 29. He has won two races over 1400 metres so the extra distance of this race is in his favour. He’s a horse still on the improve, appears to have more upside than his rivals and looks the best bet of the day.
