Scott Embry’s Saturday Collie Preview

Race 1

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE is a 3 year old filly who resumes at Collie without a barrier trial. She’s had three starts to date: 2 year old race on debut, 140 days later another 2 year old Saturday and then 68 days later a 1000m maiden at Bunbury. Impossible to know with confidence where she’s at but she’s run into horses like Daryte, Farnova, Perfume Princess, Achy Breaky, Levati Dimezzo, In Good Nicc, Chixfromthestix, Big Red Zoom – horses with 20L more ability than her rivals here. COUSIN MORTIMER on the other hand is a 7 year old maiden who has had 25 cracks at it. 1100 short of his best but drawn wide could be a blessing. AMIRA GIRL shoed a glimpse at Kal four back behind Mojo Mio over 1200. GALACTIC COMMUNITY is on debut first-up, no trial.

Numbers: 6 – 1 – 2 – 3

Suggested Bet – WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WIN

Race 2

VILLAGE GIRL is having her 11th run of the prep which dates back to June but this is far and away the easiest race she has ever seen (in her career). Whether or not they’ll handle the white sands of Collie is an unknown but if she reproduces her run from last start at York behind Spanish Armada then she’ll be too classy for these. STATE OF FURY won a 46+ at Northam only three starts ago and in fact her last two wins have been in this grade (as well as a nose defeat at York). Great placement even with the weight. RIVER ANGEL is 2x C3 placed. This is a nice race for her and she’s trained locally which surely helps? SCHUHBECK doesn’t win races but he’s always there abouts.

Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 6

Suggested Bet – VILLAGE GIRL WIN

Race 3 (Best Bet)

STORM LORD is backing up off 7 days out of a 60+ Graduation at Ascot where he was only beaten 2L by Kraken Time, Jedi Dream and Hezangelic. His last three have actually all been super in races with far more depth to it than this. Handles the surface and goes really close in a race where (albeit pay 1-2) we might even get eachway? MARS MISSION won back to back races at Carnarvon and Moora to finish the season and in that Moora victory he beat home key rival Weapons Hot in the process. WEAPONS HOT is a 2x Carnarvon winner and ran second at Moora. He’s jump and run. RODNEY OH RODNEY raced at Collie in 2025 and seemingly didn’t handle the track? Is a 5L better animal 12 months later so willing to be forgiving.

Numbers: 5 – 3 – 2 – 4

Suggested Bet – STORM LORD EACHWAY

Race 4

KINGSLEY TOWN was plunged at Moora in a 1500m maiden and nearly pulled it off. He then headed to the grass at York last start and out to 1920m which was a bridge too far. Back to 1400m and might be sent on another jump and run, catch me if you can mission against a very thin line-up of rivals. HELIOS AMIGOS finished within 2.5L of maiden rivals on 4 occasions last preparation at Bunbury and Pinjarra. Not the same horse this preparation? CHE FIGATA had blinkers applied two starts ago and over-raced badly throughout. They came off last start at York and he had no luck when racing wide for the majority of the race. Going better than it reads on paper. HARD TO TOP is a 31 start maiden but the two runs for new trainer Mack Hall have been solid.

Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 5

Suggested Bet – KINGSLEY TOWN WIN

Race 5

TEABISCUIT was backed as if unbeatable last start at Moora, with punters expecting him to reproduce the 5L victory of the year prior. Unfortunately, nothing went right – he was only fairly away and then shuffled back into a position where all he got was a face full of kickback. 3kg claimer to a senior rider here – expect that Kate Pateman will be trying to get him out and rolling. SIDE SHOW was a surprise 80-1 winner last start for Dylan Bairstow. The tongue tie went back on, the winkers went back on and he bounced back. Can he reproduce? SPEAK TO ME is a 2x C5 winner racing in a 56+ at Collie. If he’s ready he’s very classy for this grade. MAVIS MYRTLE can punch through to leader’s back.

Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 6

Suggested Bet – TEABISCUIT WIN

Race 6

LAND OF FIRE won a 56+ 1500 at Moora beating key rival Queen Nardi and now they meet again here in the Collie Cup at 1990. There’s only 1kg weight swing in favour of Queen Nardi for an extending 1.7L margin. The time out of that race was super (5L faster than average) but there has to be a slight query on whether or not Land of Fire will run the trip? Wouldn’t want to be taking anything under ~$3.50? ICANDOIT ONMYWON was beaten a mile at Northam last start but prior to that was in solid form. 26th run of the campaign so a little month’s freshen was probably overdue! QUEEN NARDI is only second-up but can come to hand quickly. BEATS OF WAR can get really keen. Hoping for Jess Gray he jumps and leads, otherwise it could be ugly.

Numbers: 5 – 4 – 2 – 1

Suggested Bet – LAND OF FIRE WIN
